Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games Demo Available Now On 3DS E-Shop

Yes. There is a speed walking event. I'm not kidding.

Just released on the Nintendo E-Shop in North America comes a demo of the upcoming release of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The demo features five events. 25MM Rapid Fire Pistol, European Football (AKA American Soccer), Trampoline, 100m Backstroke, and BMX. Your character in each event is chosen at random and will be different with every playthrough. The European demo should be out very soon, but if the other M&S games didn’t thrill you, I doubt this one will either. I will say the controls in each event are very unique to each other and help give the game variety. Also, the last event is like a fully realized 3-D Excitebike.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will be available in North America on Valentines day, February 14th and in Europe on February 10th.

M&S London’s Limited Edition Contains More Than Just a Tin, Coming to Australia

UPDATE: UK fans can now get the tin as a bonus with the game at Amazon. Thanks to Thomas for the heads up!

It appears the Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games Collector’s Edition revealed for Spain last month actually contains a lot more than just the steel tin shown on the box image SEGA Spain released. EB Games Australia is now listing it, except under the name ‘Limited Edition’ instead of ‘Collector’s Edition’.

The retailer has shared the above image of all of the item’s you get with this edition of the game, which include a steel tin, a poster, a t-shirt, a notebook and a carry bag. All of this is available to pre-order and purchase for $88 AU, which is just $10 AU more than the standard game on its own. It’s also worth noting that this set of goodies is exclusive to EB Games in Australia. It will also be made available in Spain, but we’ve not seen it up for pre-order yet.

Having visited the SEGA booth at E3 with it’s mammoth Sonic statue, the aesthetic Sonic Generations stand, the quaint M&S London Olympic games arena and the Aliens bunker to name a few, I thought SEGA wouldn’t ever be able to outdo themselves. Well, take a look at some of these images and videos coming out of Cologne this week from the Gamescom 2011 show!

In amongst all of the titles being shown off at the German event, there is giant inflatable Sonic the hedgehog, an entire double decker bus…and of course my favourite part of all, a  history wall showcasing merchandise past and present (check out the video tour for that!) kindly donated for the duration of the show by Sonic fan and Sonic merchandise collector ‘Yellow’ (Alessandro Sanasi) from Spindash.de.

Look out for Sonic making an appearance too! Be sure to check out the SEGA flikr feed for more photos of the day.

Unfortunately, the company hasn’t announced what platforms the games will be on and say “Playability of game differs for each title”, but with both Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games playable at other events a month before, then it’s very likely attendees will be able to get hands-on time.

EB Games Expo Gold Coast 2011 will take place October 15th and 16th in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast of Australia at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Tickets are available to purchase from EB Games’ website.

SEGA Setting Up SEGA Arcade For San Diego Comic-con 2011

SEGA has announced that they will be attending this year’s San Diego Comic-con. The publisher won’t have a booth at the convention center though, but instead a ‘pop-up arcade’ space nearby. The public will be able to go into the arcade and try out playable demos of many of SEGA’s upcoming games before they’re released, including Sonic Generations, the first public demo of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and more.

SEGA will also be unveiling a new unannounced game, which will likely be Aliens Infestation for the Nintendo DS. The game recently turned up on the ESRB’s website, meaning an official announcement could be on the way soon, and what better place could you lift the lid on an Aliens game than at San Diego Comic-con?

Thanks to R@qH1eL at the SSMB, we have some pics from the outside of the SEGA Arcade in its current state.

SEGA Considered Peripheral For Latest Mario & Sonic Game

SEGA has told Videogamer.com that they once considered launching a peripheral together with Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the early days of development.

“In the very early stage of this project, we even considered creating a new peripheral that works – that matches best for this game. We always try to look for new alternatives or possibilities.”

No information was given as to what the peripheral may have looked like, what its function was or which platform it was for, but with Mario & Sonic’s brand power and SEGA’s success with past entries in the series, their new game doesn’t really need peripherals to sell it anyway.
