If a Game Gear that fits in the palm of your hand isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry, because it looks like more SEGA mini consoles are on the horizon! Yosuke Okunari, SEGA’s Classic Hardware Producer, talked to Famitsu about what could be next. While he wouldn’t name anything in particular, he said anything anyone has imagined (or not imagined) is being considered.
He also said that unlike the Game Gear Micros, which were made for the Japanese market, the next project should be global in scope. Though due to the size and expense of such a project, it likely won’t be available for at least two years, so don’t expect anything in 2021. He then went on to say that for the next project, they will be considering something like the Mega Drive Mini (so not like the Game Gear Micro or Astro City Mini), and any console from the SG-1000 to SEGA Dreamcast could be chosen.

It’s finally coming out, and bizarrely before a Japanese release date has been revealed. Sega just revealed that both Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sega Ages Puyo Puyo Tsu are coming to both NA and EU on Feb 20th. Sega also opened up the western page for the game as seen here.
Earlier we covered that Sega Ages Sonic 2 will feature Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 built-in, as well as the Drop Dash ability (from Sonic Mania and Sega Ages Sonic 1), online rankings, plus the 3DS version’s Ring Keeper Mode and Super Sonic Mode.

Sega have announced their line-up for this year’s Tokyo Game Show event in Japan (which includes Team Sonic Racing). Alongside it, they’ve announced a special stage event will be taking place on September 22nd at 15:10-15:40 that will be all about their Sega Ages line-up for the Switch eShop. As announced back at the Sega Fes 2018 event back in April, Sega and the developer M2 will be releasing individual classics on the Nintendo Switch eShop as part of their Sega Ages line. This succeeds the Sega 3D Classics line from the Nintendo 3DS (also by M2), and one of the first two games to launch with the line is of course; Sonic 1 (the other being Thunder Force IV on Genesis). Sega just announced at the Sega Fes 2018 event in Japan that they will be doing essentially a repeat of the Sega 3D Classics line on 3DS, but now on Switch. Just like on 3DS, these classic games will be brought to Switch by M2.

This year’s Tokyo Game Show kicks off on September 15th, and with it will come plenty of big reveals from some of the industry’s biggest developers and publishing giants, as well as over 200,000 people expected to be on the show floor to try out upcoming titles.
SEGA will be attending the event with livestreams going on throughout the show, showing off the likes of Yakuza 6, Persona 5, and the new Puyo Puyo Chronicle among other wares. The latest SEGA 3D Classics compilation title from M2, SEGA 3D Fukkoku Archives 3: Final Stage, and Sanzaru Games’ Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice will also be present, complete with new gameplay footage and a live stage event featuring special guests like M2 President Naoki Horii and Sonic series director Takashi Iizuka respectively.

Well, it’s a little later than planned (they just said September), but not by that much. 😛
Sega of America confirmed today on twitter that the game is finally coming out at least in NA on October 8th, after having already been released in Japan back on July 22nd.
The 3DS version actually has a wireless co-op multiplayer feature where one player is Sonic, and the other is an invincible version of Tails to assist Sonic in the game, basically like you did on the TV back in the day. You’re also able to save at anytime and can now more easily unlock Super Sonic just by beating the game on any mode, which gives Sonic all the chaos emeralds when the feature is turned on.
Sadly at the moment there’s no release date yet for Europe.

Above you see the cover artwork for the just announced Sega 3D Classics Print 2, a compilation of Sega’s 3D Classics on 3DS, though only five games are confirmed right now, including Sonic 1.
What’s so special is that like the box of the first pack, this was drawn by the main character designer and artist of Pokémon himself; Ken Sugimori.
More surprises are teased, like the blurred out bit above. Any guesses?
The pack is due on December 22nd 2015 in Japan. The first never left Japan, so don’t expect the same for this.
