Sega Ages: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 coming to Switch

This week’s Famitsu issue in Japan has revealed four more Sega Ages games for the Switch eShop (now totaling 10 so far). The following games are Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Columns II, Out Run and Thunder Force AC.

Presumably Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will not just be the Genesis game, but also might include the Mega Play arcade version just as Sonic 1 got on Switch, since Sonic 2 got a Mega Play release as well.

Columns II will have online battles, and Out Run will have new arranged music. All of the above except Sonic 2 originated in arcades (with Thunder Force AC being an arcade port of Thunder Force III).

It’s also worth noting that all but Columns II were previously released as part of the Sega 3D Classics line on 3DS (specifically the Genesis version of Thunder Force III), while the original Columns was part of the 3D Classics line as well.

This is now the current list of Sega Ages games on Switch:

Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis) – due in September 2018 in Japan
Thunder Force IV (Genesis) – due in September 2018 in Japan
Phantasy Star (Master System) – due in September 2018 in Japan
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)
Gain Ground (Arcade)
Space Harrier (Arcade)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis)*
Columns II (Arcade)*
Out Run (Arcade)*
Thunder Force AC (Arcade)*

* = originating platforms not 100% confirmed as of yet but is 99% likely the case

    1. It’s a highly modified version of the original. Kind of like the mobile remake, except it’s not a remake.

  1. Completely un-interested. Maybe if they had a service where I only pay like 15 dollar or something for switched out games I’d bite.
