Sega Announces SEGA AGES Line of Classic Games for Switch

Sega just announced at the Sega Fes 2018 event in Japan that they will be doing essentially a repeat of the Sega 3D Classics line on 3DS, but now on Switch. Just like on 3DS, these classic games will be brought to Switch by M2.

So the only thing we know is that there are more than 15 titles planned, and we know of three so far; Sonic the Hedgehog, Thunder Force IV, and Phantasy Star. These will start being rolled out this summer in Japan, U.S. and Europe. Thunder Force IV is also playable during the Sega Fes 2018 event.

So far we don’t know what platforms are specifically being supported, or even which versions the aforementioned titles are (since Sonic the Hedgehog was on Genesis/Mega Drive, and its 8-bit counterpart was on Master System and Game Gear).

Which titles are you hoping to see be part of the Sega Ages line-up on Switch? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. No matter what happens, I’d like to see Sonic 2, Sonic Spinball and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine on there.

  2. Why do we get Sonic 1 again when literally everyone and their grandfather’s dog owns it? Any HD remaster or ports of titles to Switch would be fantastic. Modern needs more love.

    1. I’d kill for a remastered Sonic Adventure 2 or Sonic Heroes.

….Sonic Adventure I could do without, personally.

  3. They also announced that they’re making a SEGA Mega Drive Mini, but it will be built by AtGames. Exclusivity contracts is the reason. If they had teamed up with Nintendo, then we’d have a much more superior tech. Still, at least given what had happened with the TecToy Mega Drive and the past model Genesis, this one will be laden with improvements, too. I just hope they cut back on the Chinese Flash Games included on there, and make it easier to modify, and add our own Genesis titles on there, this time around.

  4. “Oh crap! We can’t make a good Sonic game anymore, what do the fans want? What should we do? Give them Sonic 1 again? GREAT IDEA!”

    1. It’s a a small expenditure that earns substantial profit. They’d be fools *not* to put Sonic 1 on Switch.
