If there’s one thing we love more than Sonic himself, it’s official Sonic-themed merchandise. Especially if it’s the kind of merchandise that gets really creative with the brand and goes above and beyond just slapping some key art on a t-shirt. That’s why we’ve been in love with SEGA Shop UK’s officially-licensed goods for such a long time – their latest line of goods is available now and further proof of their creativity, with a ‘Japanese Style’ themed range hitting just in time for Sonic’s 30th anniversary! Let’s take a look.

In other credits-related news, apparently Eggman’s previous Japanese voice actor Chikao Ohtsuka IS actually credited in the game. You can see the Japanese voice cast list at 6:51 in the video above. The info we received before was reported by a Japanese player with a copy of the game and forwarded to us in the forums by Tracker. This is the first time we’ve been able to see the credits ourselves, and there’s no sign of Motomu Kiyokawa’s name at all, so I’m at least very curious of how such a claim was made in the first place.
If we have indeed made an error, than I myself would like to deeply apologize for any misreporting of information (I did write the article about the topic in question), and hopefully we’ll get this cleared up soon enough.
Also I should note that I accidentally misspelled Chikao Ohtsuka’s name as Chikao Otsuka (without the “h” in Ohtsuka) in earlier articles. I went back and corrected the spelling in both of the previous articles I wrote about his passing. Please accept my apologies on that as well.

Eggman’s new Japanese voice actor revealed to be Motomu Kiyokawa
With the release of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on 3DS in Japan, we now know the new Japanese voice of Eggman to be Motomu Kiyokawa.
Motomu Kiyokama succeeds the late Chikao Ohtsuka, who voiced Eggman from Sonic Adventure 1 all the way to the Sonic Boom games. Chikao Ohtsuka sadly passed away on January 15th, 2015 due to a Ischemic Heart Disorder.
Among Motomu Kiyokama’s Japanese voice acting credits include Thomas in the 90’s Virtua Fighter TV show, as well as the Mahogany Town Gym Leader Pryce (from Gold and Silver) in the Pokémon anime.
The news of the new voice actor came from our own Tracker on our forum, and we even have a clip from a Vine account by a user with a copy of the game which you can view here (make sure to enable sound).
Thanks go to both for the news.

Chikao Ohtsuka, JP voice of Eggman, has passed away at 85
We are very sad to report that Chikao Ohtsuka, the Japanese voice of Dr. Eggman since Sonic Adventure, first released in Japan in 1998 has passed away at the age of 85 due a Ischemic Heart Disorder.
Chikao Ohtsuka is now the third known voice actor to play as Dr. Eggman to have passed away, after Deem Bristow (English voice from Sonic Adventure to Sonic Advance 3) and Long John Baldry (English voice in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog TV show).
It remains to be seen who will become his successor as Eggman in the Japanese version of the series.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Chikao Ohtsuka.

Sonic 4 Japanese Site Goes Live, Features Longer Version of Jingle
If you head on over to the Japanese Sonic 4 website, you can listen to the jingle you heard on Hedgehog Day, but this time it’s a bit longer.
Aaaaaand… that’s all there is to that story. There’s nothing else to see there besides some sweet clouds.

SEGA’s guide to destroying rare Sonic merchandise: Part one
While on my own merch expedition through the darkest depths of the interwebs, I stumbled across these rare jewels of advertisement from the Sonic Adventure era. I cry at the thought that these plushes were thrown out of planes and down waterfalls, even if the dialogue is hillarious.

It’s true what they say you know…every time you feed a rare plush to a crocodile, a Sonic merch collector drops dead…

4Kids Offers Japanese Sonic X, But Restricts Access
A report from Andrew Paulson has revealed that US anime localisation company 4Kids are to start providing original, uncensored episodes of the Japanese Sonic X series. A short trailer featuring a clip from the first episode, Enter the Supersonic Hero, has been uploaded to their Youtube Channel. The only problem is, if you’re outside of the US, you’re blocked from watching it – just like any other Sonic X video the company has on their account.
The move is both a positive instance of 4Kids coming to terms with what a lot of their audience has asked for, yet a shock for worldwide fans that even today have to put up with archaic regional rights issues. The TSSZ article is littered with comments from fans disappointed that they cannot watch their favourite cartoon online.
4Kids has received a lot of venom in the past for their handling of Japanese anime shows. Vitriol from Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been somewhat more intense due to an ownership of the franchise’s merchandising rights, along with a controversial move of integrating their voice actors into the Sega games.
They may well be trying to make things up to a ton of their disgruntled viewers tired of the American edits and censors, but have 4Kids scored another own goal here? Let us know in the Comments box or the SSMB.

Fanatics: The Best of Both Soundtracks
YouTube user, sphereballs, takes the January 5th spotlight today for his Sonic remixes. His remixes are not like the ones you would here on OCRemix, though. These two songs that he made take all 7 tracks from both the Japanese and American soundtracks of Sonic CD and mix them all into epic song. The zones that he has done thus far are Wacky Workbench and Tidal Tempest. Be warned, they are awesome. Tidal Tempest is above, hit the jump for Wacky Workbench.
