Following the recent downloadable re-releases of Sonic Triple Trouble and Sonic Labyrinth, the speedy blue hedgehog will be once again be hitting the Nintendo 3DS eShop this week in Sonic Blast for the SEGA Game Gear.
Originally released in 1996, the game is a traditional side-scrolling platformer which sees Sonic and Knuckles teaming up to collect the Chaos Emeralds and take down the evil Dr Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik. Sonic Blast was the last Sonic game released for the Game Gear and boasts pre-rendered graphics based on its similarly-titled counterpart, Sonic 3D Blast (known as Sonic 3D: Flickies’ Island here in Europe), giving it a unique look when compared to its other 8-bit brothers.
European 3DS owners will be able to download the game from Thursday for £4.50.
Are you planning to have a blast with Sonic Blast? Or do you think it’s more “blast to smithereens” than “blast processing”? Let us know in the comments!

It’s been a whirlwind ride of sorts for the Sonic Nendoroid figure here in the UK. Made by the Good Smile Company, this limited edition piece of merch was originally only going to available in Japan – but thanks to the surprise announcement that SonicMerchandise.com would be stocking it, fans on the other side of the world had the chance to their hands on it too (well, if they were quick enough to get a pre-order in before they sold out, anyway). Now, at last, the Nendoroids have arrived… but have they been worth the hype?

In 1981, a film was released about two British athletes who ran in the Olympics – one for the glory of God, the other to overcome prejudice.
Now in 2012, a lone hedgehog also runs, in hope of saving his world from tyranny.
Through green hills and spring yards, against all odds, against everything, he must run… for running is all he knows, and running is all he shall ever know…
(Please note: this video ends with quite a literal Sonic boom)
