New Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog DVD Details

Just recently it was confirmed that the 1993 animated series, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, would finally see the light of day on DVD. Shout! Factory, who recently also released other Sonic the Hedgehog series (SatAM) have neared completion of the new DVD set and TVShowsOnDVD.com have reported some exciting new details about the much anticipated release.

The new information confirms the release will be a four disc set containing the first 22 episodes and is to be released on July 17th . Two bonus featurettes “How to Draw Sonic the Hedgehog” and “A Conversation with Artist Milton Knight” will also be included. The DVD set is currently available on pre-order from Amazon for $22.49 (Regular SRP $29.99)

For many Sonic fans The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is considered the most enjoyable (albeit light) animated series, and thanks to this release they will now have an alternative to the DVDs of questionable legality from Korea that circulate eBay infrequently.

Blaze and New Raccoon for Sonic Rush Adventure

A new banner created by Sega Europe displays Blaze and a brand new Raccoon character, both set to appear in Sonic Rush Adventure.

The Sonic Stadium posted the banner last night upon finding the image, but has since removed it on Sega’s request. The image was curiously leaked somehow from the European offices and had yet to be approved by the Japanese branch. We apologise to our readers for stripping our content, but in return Sega will exclusively reveal details of the brand new raccoon character when they are ready to surface. SEGA Splash Golf

Sonic Likes to Golf with pretty girls

In a recent announcement, it has been confirmed Sonic (and a few other SEGA character such as NIGHTS and Tails) will appear in the new and upcoming SEGA PC title, SEGA Splash Golf.

Sonic appears in the game as the caddy, he gets your balls, supports you along, and much more. Besides the fact Sonic and Tails are in the game, there’s also golf courses based around Sonic, such as the Green Hill Zone. Other SEGA characters to appear include NIGHTS, the puyo pop clan, Opa Opa, and Ulalala. Continue reading SEGA Splash Golf

Sonic Rush Adventure Confirmed!

Avast ye scurvy dogs!

Late this afternoon it was confirmed by both SEGA Europe and SEGA America, that development is now underway on a sequel to the Sonic Rush title, speculated a few weeks back on TSS. Sonic Rush Adventure is set to wash up on the shores in time for the Autumn this year.

Sonic will this time be pitted against a motley crew of Pirates, while fighting through 7 action-packed stages. Keeping in tradition of Sonic Rush, the game is pegged to “seemlessly Utilise” both of the DS screens once more. Not only that, but players will be able to assemble an Armada of ships to sail the seas, gathering rings, performing tricks and engaging in battles with other ships; all using the DS stylus control. New Sonic Rush game in the works?

A member of the Sonic Stadium Message Board has dug up a new trademark filed by SEGA on April 2nd 2007, for a product titled “Sonic Rush Adventure”. SEGA neither confirmed or denied such a project when we contacted them this morning.

Sonic Rush was revered as the best Sonic game of recent years when it was released on Nintendo DS in 2005, but it was largely ignored for its home console flop Shadow the Hedgehog instead. This trademark, using a similar name, suggests that a sequel is perhaps in the works. Considering the insane popularity of the DS handheld worldwide, that’s probably not a bad idea.

It is worth pointing out that many trademarks taken out by companies with the best intentions of releasing it as a product end up cancelled or the result of stillborn ideas. Judging by the nature of the title itself, SEGA could even be taking out a trademark to protect the ‘Sonic Rush’/’Sonic Adventure’ name from potential unauthorised games from other companies. So there is a chance that this could turn out to be nothing.

But hey, if it does… more wonderful 2.5D platforming may await us. Many thanks to super sleuth Keiji Dragon from SSMB for the tip. You can view the trademark for yourself here.

New info on the upcoming Nights game

Sega has recently revealed new information regarding Nights 2. The game’s official name is “Nights: Journey of Dreams”. It will feature 7 new worlds, 3 new powers up called “Persona Masks”, a 2 player mode, will use the WiiConnect24 feature to allow players to send currently unknown items to friends Wiis, and will make use of the Wii’s forecast channel to change the scenery in accordance to the seasons.

The Persona Masks offer new shape shifting abilities to allow Nights to better navigate the land of Nightopia:

  • Dragon mask: Transforms NiGHTS into a huge dragon and makes him resistant to wind effects.
  • Dolphin mask: NiGHTS can change into a dolphin and explore under water.
  • Rocket mask: NiGHTS takes the shape of a rocket and travels at supersonic speeds.

Little else is known about Nights: Journey of Dreams. Stay tuned!

Sonic and Mario Finally in Cahoots!

First off, we’d like to apologize for both our downtime, and being so late to deliver the most widespread of news. Rest assured, though, we’re bucking up, and promise to deliver the latest Sonic News from now on, yadda yadda, you get the deal. Anywho, on with the show…

If you’ve snooped around the internets lately (or Sega’s website, to be more specific), you’d notice this little gem. What’s this? Sonic and Mario? In a game together? This isn’t a photoshop, right?
