3 More Sonic Generations Green Hill Zone Screenshots

It appears GameSpot managed to grab three more Sonic Generations screenshots after the game’s proper unveiling on Monday. The three images show more of the Green Hill Zone in both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic versions and the above screenshot in particular really shows how pretty the game is graphically.

Sonic Colours Wii in High-Resolution

Since the first screenshots and gameplay footage was shown of Sonic Colours on Wii there have been some fans craving an HD version of the game. While that doesn’t seem to be happening, we can at least now have a glimpse at what Sonic Colours might look like with high-resolution 1080p graphics thanks to screenshots and video from JADS, who ran the game through the Dolphin emulator and shared the images and video at NeoGAF.

Sonic Free Riders: New Screens, Videos & Reviews

More reviews for SEGA’s first Xbox 360 Kinect title Sonic Free Riders have rolled out to join IGN’s 7.5/10, GameInformer’s 5.75/10 and G4’s 3/5 that we reported about yesterday. GameTrailers put out the above video review, scoring the game 4.5/10. Elsewhere, Kotaku, a site that doesn’t give scores, called the game’s controls broken, but said if SEGA could fix them he would recommend the game. Joystiq put out the game’s lowest scored review yet, with a painful 1/5, but there has been another higher score from the U.S. Official Xbox Magazine that matches IGN’s score of 7.5/10. The main complaint among the reviewers is the controls and how poorly they work, especially the steering. Check out the reviews at the links provided and share your thoughts in our comments section.

In other news, SEGA Japan updated their official Sonic Free Riders website with fifteen more screenshots from the game and two images from later unlocked tracks Final Factory and Metal City. You can check out those screens and images below.

Finally, we have some new gameplay videos from Kotaku, Giant Bomb and GameTrailers:

New Sonic Free Riders Japanese Trailer and Screenshots

The official Japanese Sonic Free Riders website has received a makeover today, along with new updates that include the above new trailer and some new screenshots. In the screens and trailer we see more of Dolphin Resort and Rocky Ridge played in both single player and co-op modes, in which one mode sees you synchronized with another player. The trailer also acts as a tutorial to show you how the game is controlled, including the stage specific elements such as swimming, steering a minecart and riding a newly revealed bobsleigh. It looks like there is plenty of physical interaction involved in the game to keep players fit.

New Sonic Colours Screenshots, Violet “Void” Wisp Revealed

Many new screenshots for both Wii & DS versions of Sonic Colours have arisen at Andriasang, which feature the Aquarium Park stage and our first real look at the Asteroid Coaster stage. Asteroid Coaster lives up to its name, with the levels built around rocky asteroids, which appear to have been polluted with toxic waste, and yes, a roller coaster is present, a skeletal prehistoric themed one. The DS screenshots reveal the Violet Wisps “Void” powers, which give Sonic the ability to float and to suck up enemies into his vortex. This Wisp is exclusive to the DS version. The Wii screenshots allow us to see more of the yesterday revealed Purple “Frenzy” Wisps chomping powers in action. This Wisp is exclusive to the Wii version and judging by the screenshots, it can be used in both 2D and 3D spaces. The bosses from both stages in each version are also on display in full force, giving us a peek at their battle strategies.

New Sonic Free Riders Trailer, New Screenshots

SEGA Europe has just unveiled a new trailer for Xbox 360 Kinect exclusive title Sonic Free Riders. The trailer showcases a variety of tracks, including some we’ve never seen before, such as a volcanic themed area and an ancient ruin themed area. A new piece of music is played in the trailer and fits well with the series usual fare. The trailer focuses on introducing viewers to the game and how it works with Xbox 360’s new device, such as turns, speed, jumps, ring grabbing and track specific motions like swimming.

Black Spy at the SSMB has spotted a new character joining the series in the above screen-cap. Yes, it seems Metal Sonic had so much fun competing in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing that he decided to take part in this game, too.

A bunch of new screenshots of the various tracks shown in the trailer have appeared at Xbox.com, too. You can check them all out below.

New Sonic Colours Planet Wisp Wii & DS Screenshots

Andriasang has released some new screenshots for both Wii and DS versions of Sonic Colours‘ Planet Wisp stage. Most of the screenshots are old news, but there are some new ones buried amongst them and they’re available for you to view below. The screens show some new areas that you may not have seen before, especially in the DS version of the game, which hasn’t received anywhere near as much video coverage as the Wii version. Sonic Wrecks has also released hi-res artwork of Yakker. Check out the screens and artwork and share your thoughts in the comments.

[UPDATE] Sonic 4 Official Websites Updated

UPDATE: 12 new Casino Street Zone screenshots from the English site have been added to the bottom of this article. Thanks to Woun at the SSMB for grabbing them. /UPDATE END

SEGA has updated both the Japanese and English Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 websites. The Japanese site now contains 8 new screenshots of Mad Gear Zone and profiles for two of that zones badniks, Slicer and Shellcracker. The English site has been given a Casino Street Zone themed makeover, with 12 new Casino Street Zone screenshots along with 4 new wallpapers and Casino Street Zone Act 1’s music now available to download. The screenshots for Splash Hill Zone have been updated to reflect the final build of the game, too.

The below description of Casino Street Zone has also been added:

A bright and busy casino-inspired theme park, where shining neon lights fill the streets. Casino Street Zone is bustling with elaborate pinball areas and powerful cannons, so time your movement well to guarantee your chance of survival. If luck is on your side, why not explore for a moment and try your hand at the slots?

You can check out all of the new screenshots and wallpapers below. There’s just 2 days to go until the U.S. and EU release of the iPhone version and about a week to go until the console version is made available. Are you excited? Speak out in the comments.

Sonic 4 Mad Gear Zone Screenshots & EU Trailer

SEGA has today released 18 new screenshots from the Xbox 360/PS3 version of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1‘s newly revealed Mad Gear Zone. The European version of the new Mad Gear Zone trailer together with release dates and prices for Europe have also been officially revealed in a post at the Sonic City Blognik, which match up with IGN’s report on Tuesday.

As you can see, Mad Gear Zone will contain plenty of death traps that will require all of Sonic’s speed and the players skills to manoeuvre through. Slicer, Shellcracker and Asteron badniks are all out in force to stop Sonic and they’re all placed in awkward spots, just like in Sonic 2’s Metropolis Zone, so you’ll need your wits about you.

You can check the screenshots out below and discuss in the comments section.

New Sonic 4 Casino Street Zone Screenshots

SEGA has released 24 new screenshots of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, 12 from the Xbox 360/PS3 version and 12 from the Wii version. 5 of the HD version screens you may have seen before in Joystiq’s preview, but they’re here again if you missed them. The screens show us more of the recently revealed Casino Street Zone and this time we can see the stages two Badniks on the attack. It seems cannons will appear more often than they did in Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s Carnival Night Zone and will be used to navigate your way through some sections of the zone.

Sonic 4: Casino Street Zone Trailer, Screens & Preview

Joystiq has revealed a new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1‘s Casino Street Zone. The trailer shows new sections that see Sonic platforming across playing cards and also running across paths of them that appear in front of him one by one. These sections are presumably from Act 2 and replace the old build’s version of the Act, which was solely about score attacking on a pinball table, something that a lot of fans who saw the leaked build didn’t react well to.

Joystiq also released a preview of the zone along with the trailer. In the preview, Joystiq’s David Hinkle explains that this stage won’t be accomplished by just charging straight through the zone, there is more involved than that.

Sure, there are some Badniks sprinkled throughout, but navigating through the neon-lit gambler’s paradise poses several threats to Sonic. Not every situation can be conquered through brute force; it’s navigating the terrain and calculating the next step on the fly that got me through all three acts.

SEGA’s Ken Balough was also on hand to introduce the zone and spoke to Joystiq about balancing the number of enemies with the traps already set throughout the stage.

“When it came to each of these levels, we toyed with the idea of how many enemies would be overwhelming to the player. The enemies that we do have in it work really well for the Zone — like the enemies with the shields that Sonic kinda pings off of. Considering that there are a lot of other traps in the environment, those kind of things can really set the player off and kill them, but the fact that you might be running incredibly fast and hit one of the Badniks with the shields and it springs you back, it may end up throwing you back into a trap that you thought you had escaped from. So those ideas, we definitely wanted to toy with, but we wanted to achieve a balance, where the environmental mechanics stood out as much as the enemies so I think we struck a good equilibrium here, but, obviously, it’s up to the players to tell us what they think.”

Hinkle also talks about the cannons, which return from Sonic 3 and explains how the new playing card gimmick works and the bonuses it offers:

The aforementioned cannons play the biggest role in Casino Streets Zone and are gradually introduced throughout the prior Acts. It’s simple: Sonic hops into a cannon; you aim the cannon; and Sonic is blasted out. Rings indicate the best trajectories, but later on the game leaves it to you to make that call.

The benefit to finding these alternate pathways is obviously collecting more stuff, but throughout the level there are cards that Sonic can touch and flip around. The quicker you flip them, and the more of them you flip, gives Sonic a chance to match up cards. Get three Sonic heads and you’ve got yourself another life, for example. It’s only a matter of finding these pockets of cards and touching them.

Five screenshots of the zone were released too, which you can check out below:

94 New Sonic Colours Wii Screenshots

French gaming website Gamekult.com has a gigantic treat for Sonic Colours fans, with 94 screenshots taken directly from the Wii version of the game. In the screens we get our first proper look at the Starlight Carnival stage, as well as new areas of previously seen stages, Sweet Mountain and Tropical Resort. We also get a peek at some of the games cutscenes, which contain French subtitles, but luckily you can see translations of them at the SSMB thanks to forum member, Core.

Mini-maps for each stage are revealed in the screenshots, with some Act markers having Wisps floating above them, but what this means isn’t clear. Could it mean that Act is where you unlock that particular Wisp? On top of all of this, you can also see more of the Sonic Simulator mode in action.

You can view all 94 screenshots below and let us know your thoughts on them in the comments section.

[UPDATE]Sonic Colours: Aquarium Park Wii & DS Screenshots

UPDATE: Two more Wii screenshots have been added, courtesy of the Sonic City Blognik. Looks like the Aquatic Park boss will chase Sonic at a point in the battle. /UPDATE END

Two batches of Sonic Colours screenshots have hit the net this morning, one Wii batch and one DS batch. The screens are taken from a new water themed stage, which is revealed at SPOnG to be titled Aquatic Park. You’ll notice right away that the stage strongly resembles Sonic Unleashed’s Chun-Nan stage, with plenty of Chinese themes all over the place and even the Egg Pawns are in costume again, this time dressed as Samurai’s. Sonic is quite out of the norm in this stage, since he treks underwater without dying like he usually would in his 3D games, so could we see the return of the classic drowning countdown and air bubbles? This stage also gives us our first in-game glimpse of the Wii exclusive Blue Wisp in action, which turns Sonic into a cube to turn blue rings into solid platforms and vice versa, SPOnG explains.

With a shake of the Wii Remote, Sonic transforms into a blue block, which acts as a switch to turn blue rings into solid platforms and vice versa. It’s a good way of finding some alternative routes through stages.

Also revealed, are the stages bosses on Wii and DS and some more shots of the Wii versions co-op mode. You can check the screenshots out below and discuss them in the comments.

Not satisfied with yesterdays huge amount of new art and videos for Sonic Colours? Well, more art, video and DS screenshots have emerged from the Japanese Sonic Colours website. Above we have a video of the World Map from the Wii version in motion, which has gained a multi-coloured star since we last saw an image of it. Below we have artwork from both Wii and DS versions of the game, in which we can see Eggman’s machinery destroying the Wisps’ beautiful home, Planet Wisp. There’s also one new screenshot of the Wii version and three new screenshots of the DS version, in which one of them gives us a glimpse of Sweet Mountain’s candy loving pirate boss.

New Sonic Free Riders Screenshots Reveal New Tracks

Gamespot has released a batch of new screenshots of SEGA’s upcoming Xbox 360 Kinect exclusive, Sonic Free Riders. The screens show us a few new tracks as well as some more co-op actions that we got a brief glimpse of in SEGA’s TGS trailer for the game. The new tracks include a train station and a snowy area, but we also get to see other areas of the recently revealed Rocky Ridge track. The HUD looks to have been updated too. New Sonic Colours Wii & DS Screens and Blue Wisp Art

Official Nintendo Magazine UK has posted up some new screenshots of the Wii and DS versions of Sonic Colours. The screens give us our first look at the DS versions multiplayer mode, as well as more of the single-player mode. DS multiplayer looks to be a simple 2 player race mode, like in Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure. We also get to see more of the Wii versions recently revealed co-op mode, including combinations of the boost, Drill and Spike powers. There’s also an odd Wii screen with a yellow billiard ball, make of that what you will. You can check out the screens and official artwork of the Blue Wisp below.

8 More New Sonic Free Riders Screenshots

Following the announcement of the games release date in Japan, SEGA Japan have added nine Sonic Free Riders screenshots to the game’s website, of which eight of them are brand new and one of them a clean version of a screen we posted this morning. It appears SEGA still aren’t ready to show any new tracks, but these screens do appear to be from a graphically improved build with a full HUD intact. You’ll notice there is a green icon ability, which looks similar to the one in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity that allows players to run on foot for a short time and attack nearby players. SSMB Member, Woun has come across images of a blue character on the games site, which looks to just be a tutorial dummy.

5 New Sonic Free Riders Screenshots

Some new screenshots for Sonic Free Riders appear to have slipped under the radar late last month, from InsideGamer.nl. The screens are taken from the same old track that we’re used to seeing since E3, but we do get a close-up look at Sonic’s in-game model and see how different it is to the past games in the Riders series. New Sonic 4 Screenshots On Xbox Live Marketplace

17 new Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 screenshots have appeared on the Xbox Live Marketplace, which give us more insight into the recently revealed Lost Labyrinth Zone, as well as more of Splash Hill Zone. The screenshots look to be taken from the recent demo being shown to press, since we can see some of the changes in effect, such as Sonic’s speed-induced blurred running animation.

Since these screenshots are currently not available anywhere on the internet, I’ve taken the pleasure of capturing them on camera from my TV, so apologies for the quality. If we see better versions of the pics, we’ll update. If you have an Xbox 360, you can view them on your TV at the games section in the Xbox Live Marketplace. Unfortunately, the screens haven’t been added to the games product page at Xbox.com.

[UPDATE]Sonic Colours Co-Op Mode Revealed?

UPDATE:Amazon has removed the screenshot from the page. Did the retailer jump the gun on something SEGA weren’t ready to reveal yet? /UPDATE END

Amazon’s Japanese website has posted a new Sonic Colours screenshot on the game’s product page there, which reveals a co-op mode. In the screen. we see two Sonics, one blue and one pink (or red?). Two separate HUDs can also be seen on the left and right of the screenshot with no split down the middle, suggesting that this is indeed a co-op mode. What’s  odd about this picture is the environment. For a game titled ‘Sonic Colours’, there sure isn’t much colour in this stage.  Also odd are the antennas that both Sonics have on their heads. Could we be seeing Sonic robots, like the Shadow robots in Shadow the Hedgehog’s multiplayer modes?

What do you think about this interesting development? Speak out in the comments.

More Sonic 4 Changes Revealed

SEGA have today revealed more information about Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 today, as they promised they would yesterday. Todays focus is on Lost Labyrinth Zone Act 2, particularly the changes made to the controversial mine cart sequence seen in the leaked version of the game. The whole of Act 2 has been revamped for the console versions with the torch mechanic seen in the recent screenshots. The mine cart will now only be at the end of the Act and won’t be motion controlled. Could this mean that the iPod Touch/iPhone version is keeping the old Act 2?

Other smaller tweaks have been made to the game, tweaks that many fans have been requesting for ages now. The edits include a balance to difficulty to make tougher sections easier, Sonic reaching full speed and ‘wheel-of-feet’ faster, and an update to Sonic’s running animation.

You can check out the list in full at the SEGA of America Blog and Sonic City Blognik. SEGA promise another update with more changes will be released early September. Some hi-resolution versions of recent screenshots have also been released, check them out below.

SEGA Reveals Pink Wisp for Sonic Colours

SEGA have today revealed the Pink Wisp for Sonic Colours, along with two new screenshots of its powers in action. The Pink Wisp strengthens Sonic’s spikes and allows him to stick to walls, abling him to reach areas that he couldn’t before. As the box art indicated, SEGA confirms that this Wisp is exclusive to the Wii version.

Sonic is not the only one with spikes in Sonic Colors!

Check out the Color Power of the latest Wisp to be revealed; Pink Wisp and its Sonic-like spikes! When Sonic absorbs Pink Wisp, he can use “Pink Spike” Color Power, meaning he has much stronger spikes. Pink Spike makes the most of the spikes and is able to stick to any wall and ceilings! Exclusive to the Nintendo Wii version of the game, Pink Wisp helps Sonic explore new routes in a brand new way through certain levels of the game.

The new screenshots below showcase a new and unidentified stage. Hopefully we’ll hear more on the new stage at a later date. Impressed with the Pink Wisp? Let us know in the comments!

Sonic 4’s Lost Labyrinth Zone Officially Revealed

UPDATE: The UK, AU and U.S. official Sonic 4 websites have also been updated with music for Lost Labyrinth Zone Act 1, three new badniks, concept art and more screenshots. The concept art and new screens have been added with the Japanese ones at the bottom of this article.

Thanks to Shoryuken for the heads up and thanks to Woun at the SSMB for obtaining the screens! /UPDATE END

SEGA has officially revealed the Lost Labyrinth Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1  today.  The update arrived on their official Japanese Sonic 4 website with eight new screenshots. The screenshots show that there has been a major overhaul of the stage, including new elements, such as dark areas in which Sonic will need to carry a torch to light up his surroundings. Sonic will also require the torch to light dynamite packs in certain areas to advance. The mine cart seen in the leaked footage of this level is still present, but it looks like it will only be used for a short period of time rather than take up a whole act. Judging by the screenshot, the mine cart moves forward without the need for tilting the screen.

We’ll keep an eye open for a U.S. and European update and let you know of any new info/media that may get released. Meanwhile, you can check out the screenshots below. If you saw the leaks, are you happy with the changes? If you didn’t, do you like your first glimpse? Let us know in the comments!

Thanks to Blue Blood at the SSMB for the heads up!

New Sonic Colours Wii & DS Screens Show New Stage

A large batch of new screenshots for both Wii and DS versions of Sonic Colours have leaked to the net slightly early from the SEGA press site at the SSMB, the screenshots show more of the new stage teased in SEGA’s last Sonic Colours update in which the Rocket Wisp was revealed. According to the original file names of the screenshots posted here, the stage is called Planet Wisp, so could this stage have an integral part in the story in regards to the Wisp aliens?

You can check out all of the screenshots below, thanks to Hero of Legend at the SSMB for the heads up!

Sonic Free Riders Screenshots, November Release

The above screenshots have been released courtesy of Portuguese website GameOver for the upcoming Xbox 360 Kinect game, Sonic Free Riders.  You may recognize three of the screenshots from before, but now, we have them without training symbols.   The track appears to be the one seen in the E3 demo, shown at various angles, giving us a better look at the environment and alternate routes. GameOver reports that SEGA is planning to release the game in America at the beginning of November:

If all goes according to schedule SEGA, Sonic Riders Free Xbox 360 lands in the U.S. starting in November.

The report falls in line with Microsoft’s claims of the game being a launch title for Kinect, which is hitting stores that same month.  Until now SEGA’s official word on Sonic Free Riders release date has been “late 2010” in both the U.S. and Europe.

New Sonic Colours Screens & Art

Courtesy of Spindash.de we have some new screenshots for both the Wii and DS versions of Sonic Colours aswell as 3 new pieces of artwork. The screens show us more of Sweet Mountain Zone and Tropical Resort Zone, no new stages are shown. Some of the images you may recognise from magazine previews but I’m sure you’ll welcome them in their larger size and better quality. Though the Sonic and Wisp group art is new, the Sonic render itself was used on official Japanese Sonic site Sonic Channel back in 2008(thanks for the heads up ENVY16).

You can check out all of the screens and art below –

New & Old Sonic Colours Wii Screenshots

SEGA have today released the above batch of screenshots for the Wii version of Sonic Colours, some of them you may recognise while others you may not. In them we see more of Sweet Mountain Zone and Tropical Resort Zone which were showcased in playable form at E3 and so there’s not much to see here that we haven’t already seen. Like all other SEGA screenshot releases we expect there will be a DS version batch around so we’ll keep an eye out and post back here if we find anything.

SEGA Japan’s Sonic Free Riders Site Now Live, First 3 Screenshots

After yesterdays official reveal of Kinect for Xbox 360 title Sonic Free Riders SEGA of Japan have now launched their official website for the game which gives us our first look at the game via 3 screenshots and a background image on the site showing one of the tracks. The screens show how the game is played via a silhouette displaying body actions for steering, balancing and collecting rings. Nothing else is shown on the site apart from already seen artwork of Sonic and Jet but no doubt the site will expand as time goes by.

Thanks to Sweet Mountain Zone at the SSMB for the heads up and thanks to Woun also at the SSMB for grabbing the screens and background!

CVG Preview, Including New Hi-res Sonic Colours Screenshots

CVG have just revealed the above batch of new screenshots of the Wii version of Sonic Colours that SEGA have released to the press for E3 which showcase the two areas Tropical Resort and Sweet Mountain that Nintendo Power readers will have exclusively seen previously but now you can see the levels in beautiful high resolution. If SEGA’s previous multi-format title media releases are anything to go by we will no doubt see a DS batch of screenshots soon enough which if come to light we’ll post here.

CVG have also posted up their preview of the E3 demo where they reveal the game will have Acts and Wii Remote controlled drifting will be used for sections of stages to maintain speed like in Unleashed. In their final summary CVG reiterate the difficulty level being aimed at younger gamers but they think older gamers will find plenty to do.

The general difficulty of Sonic Colours will suit younger fans; zones still fly by and you’ll wonder at times just how much control you actually have. But each level is crammed, throwing you from one experience to the next. Couple that with the vibrant, colourful new world though and hopefully older Sonic fans will have enough to go at too.
