SEGA: Project Sonic 2017 Will Introduce a New Character and a New Gameplay “Component”

SEGA held a livestream event to celebrate the recent launch of Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice in Japan, with series director Takashi Iizuka in attendance among others playing the latest Boom instalment and the upcoming Sonic Mania. However, a pair of bombshells has dropped since the event, this time concerning the far-flung Project Sonic 2017 launching next holiday season.

With translations provided by Source Gaming’s PushDustIn, it is confirmed that SEGA has plans to reveal “a completely new character in Project 2017.” We also now have a better idea of the gameplay, which is expected to follow the formula established in Sonic Generations with classic 2D and modern 3D levels – however, a “brand new component” is also going to be introduced.

Sonic Dash Update Brings New Characters, Features & Improvements

Popular mobile game Sonic Dash has recieved quite a hefty update today which has brought in a ton of new features as well as assets which suggest additional characters are on the way.

The update details are as follows.

Daily Spin
Test your luck with the new Daily Spin. Visit every day for a free spin and win all-new boosters and jackpot prizes including ring bundles and playable characters. Feeling lucky? Then spin again with Red Star Rings.

Boosters:

Equip new boosters before each run to give your score a massive boost. There are 5 different boosters available and up to three can be equipped per run. Visit every day to get more Boosters in the Daily Spin and Daily Challenge or spend those well-earned Rings.5 different boosters are available

Spring Bonus
Hitting a spring gives a score bonus that increases with every successive spring reached – reach the next spring and watch your score soar!

Enemy Combo
Get smashing enemies for more points. Enemy Combo gives a bonus for every Enemy Combo achieved.

Ring Streak
Collect all the Rings in a sequence to get an additional score bonus.

Final Score Bonus
The final score gets a large bonus at the end of a run.

Golden Badnik
Defeat special golden Badniks for a massive score bonus.

Facebook Invites
You can now invite your Facebook friends to play Sonic Dash, can they beat your top score?

Performance improvements across all devices and bug fixes.

According to comments on our forums, the game plays remarkably better with improved framerates and textues.

In addition to all the new features and improvements, fansite ‘The Sonic Scene’ was able to find assets which suggest that Cream, Rouge and Silver are going to be added to the game at a later date.

S&SASR: New Characters, Screens and Trailer

SEGA have revealed some new screens and a trailer for Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing at Gamescom and in them we can see some new characters. We now have Knuckles(which according to reports is the last Sonic character in the game), Beat from Jet Set Radio, Billy Hatcher(you can guess what game he’s from) and Alex Kidd(you can guess that too).

Some new tracks are also on show such as Bingo Highway, another track from Sonic Heroes, a jungle level from Super Monkey Ball and another track seen in the screen shot below. If you know which game its from let us know in the comments.

The game looks to be shaping up well and can only improve before its 2010 release in Europe. The U.S. version of the trailer moves a step further and reveals a February 2010 release date for that territory. Stay tuned for more info from our playtest at Summer of Sonic later this month
