The Sonic Adventure 2 Official Soundtrack features 26 tracks on one CD, handpicked by lead musician Jun Senoue and including exclusive US-release remixes. The moody and broody Shadow the Hedgehog has made an impact on various video game outlets, as illustrated by the second annual Wizard Video Game Awards. Sonic’s doppelgänger was named the Best Villain of the Year. “Packing more ‘tude than the blue dude himself, this evil hedgehog’s killer look and dreams of world conquest had fans loving him more than hating him,” said the magazine. Sonic Team has released another download for Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast! This time, to celebrate Hallowe’en, the studio is offering players the chance to give each character in 2P mode a spooky makeover. Sonic Team has released a new piece of downloadable content for Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast. Called ‘Eggrobo Toujou’, the VMU file contains a skin for Sonic in the Kart Racing mini-game that changes him into a classic Egg Robo from Sonic & Knuckles. The download also comes with a special ‘E’ shaped track, which when played features the ‘E.G.G.M.A.N.’ theme in the background.

Sonic Team has released a small update for players of Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast. It’s the Dr. Eggman theme, which you can download and use as a menu screen voice/background for the game. As you sweep across various menu items, you’ll hear Eggman speak to you in his gravelly tones. If you want it go to the SA2 Dreamcast website and download to your VMU.

You can now buy the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtracks – the Vocal Album that we’ve covered before, and the Original Soundtrack called Multi-Dimensional – online. You can get the Vocal Album, titled Cuts Unleashed, for around $24 and it comes with 16 tracks. The Original Soundtrack includes main themes, action stage music and more in a DOUBLE-CD package and will set you back about $30.
Both can be purchased from either CD Japan (Japanese site) or Tokyopop.

Wave Master has launched a special website dedicated to the music of Sonic Adventure 2, most likely timed to promote the upcoming Japanese release of the Vocal Soundtrack. RyanDrummond.com has stated that Steve Sheppard-Broadie, the voice of E-102 Gamma in Sonic Adventure 1 and the President in Sonic Adventure 2, has passed away on Friday of August 10th, we’ll miss you. Here’s what Ryan Drummond (SA/SA2’s Sonic voice) had to say:
“Before I go for this month, I have to pay respects to a fallen talent here in San Diego. Steve Broadie was a very talented Voice-Over actor here and I always enjoyed seeing him at auditions and working with him on projects. He passed away at 2pm on Friday the 10th. He will be missed. Hope he’s doing V.O.s in heaven! :)”

Sonic Team will now attempt to press criminal charges against individuals hacking into Phantasy Star Online servers. Hacking into a server is illegal under the Japanese penal code. The ‘Team is working with the police to track hackers inside Japan and out, and in some cases, the International Interpol has been notified.

Even though the Dreamcast is on its way out, there’s no need for you to worry about whether that Broadband Adaptor will continue to be supported. SEGA has confirmed that the US release of Phantasy Star Online Version 2 will indeed support the peripheral. The catch is that, for some reason, the game won’t support PPPoE connections. Still, you’ll be able to get some good broadband play in. The game arrives September 11.

Sonic Team has launched the online Chao-sharing functionality of Sonic Adventure 2, a month after the game’s initial Dreamcast release. Now, you can log on to the SA2 Dreamcast page from the disc and upload your Chao to the Chao Daycare. Your friends can pick them up from you there. As well as share Chao, you can also use the Chao Black Market from the online site too. Get sharing!

As we expected, the Vocal Collection won’t be the only Sonic Adventure 2 CD soundtrack that will be released. A 2-disc Original Soundtrack package will be released on September 5th, covering all the instrumental music in the game. It’s expected that there will be at least 60 tracks total in the pack. More news as we get it.

You’d think with all the delays that Sega would just cancel developing Phantasy Star Online Version 2 for the West. But according to a story on Gamespot, the Dreamcast online RPG is still very much on track for an English language release. “Definitely coming to the US” was the official line, although the date, server fees and more details are said to be revealed soon. Let’s hope it’s very, very soon.

The official Sonic Adventure 2 website has been updated with some helpful hints and tips about the game. If you log on to the site now via Sega.com you can find “1st Mission” hint pages, an Omochao Q&A page where you can submit questions to Sonic Team (so far, Omochao’s been asked how to get past a certain spot on Crazy Gadget), and a Message Board that’s split into ‘Beginner’, ‘Expert’ and ‘Chao’ forums. You can also download a VMU file that changes the voice in the menu screen in Sonic Adventure 2 to Sonic’s. Neat!

So many PSO Version 2 delays! This time it’s the US version of the game that’s being held back, originally due to release on July 10th but has recently changed to ‘TBD’ (To Be Determined) on SEGA’s official website. It’s likely that the game won’t see light of day in the West until August or September.
