Sonic Colours Rises Up The UK Top 40 Chart
With two full weeks of sales behind it, Sonic Colours has proven it has what it takes to stay relevant in the UK chart results for last week released by Chart Track today. Since last week Sonic’s latest adventure climbed two places to number 16 in the all formats chart and achieved similar success in the individual units chart by rising from 29th to 27th place on Wii and jumping four positions to number 31 on DS.
On the Wii only chart Sonic Colours rose up one rank to number 6 and beat out popular shooter Goldeneye 007, which placed at number 7. In the DS chart Sonic Colours remains seated at number 4, while Sonic Classic Collection drops one spot from 16th to 17th. Mario & Sonic Take Christmas #1
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is the best selling game in the UK at the moment – increasing SEGA’s chances for a Christmas #1.
Traditionally, Electronic Arts developed titles have dominated UK sales charts throughout December. This has been the case for the last four years, and looked to be true in 2007 when Need For Speed: ProStreet edged into the top spot last week.
But the unlikely collaboration of two of video gaming’s greatest icons appear to have charmed British audiences, as today it has been revealed that Mario & Sonic jumped five places to take the Gold. Odd, considering there aren’t any actual Wii’s to go around…
Next week will be the prized Christmas Week. Can SEGA keep on top of the tree riding the Wiimania that’s sweeping the country, or will EA climb up and claim its star back?

Secret Rings Hits UK Charts
Sonic and the Secret Rings appears to be doing what Sonic 06 wasn’t – selling. Being the first Nintendo Wii game in a good month or so, it makes sense that pre-orders for the game last week helped the game storm to the top of the Wii Charts in UK GAME stores before it had even been released.
That streak looks set to continue, as the official UK Software Charts sees the latest Sonic game hit #5 in the Top 10. This is especially good news considering the Top 4 – Final Fantasy XII, Crackdown, The Sims 2 Seasons and (especially) FIFA 07 aren’t going to budge anytime soon.
If you’re still sitting on the fence as to whether to get Sonic and the Secret Rings or not, check TSS’ Review to get the full lowdown on the game.

US: SONIC the Hedgehog Bombs At Retail
According to the latest monthly report from NPD Funworld, the well known video game sales tracking company, Sonic the Hedgehog was a huge bomb last month at US retail, selling a total 38,000 units throughout it’s first two weeks.
For the unlearned, these numbers are very, very bad for a series like Sonic, which can often garner anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 in it’s launch month.
Despite the ad blitz Sega put behind the game, it seems ultimately, the games poor reception from the press and gamers alike was it’s downfall. Only time will tell if it’s sales will shape up.

Sonic Mobile Hits Top of Charts
Pleasing news for SEGA this morning is that their venture into the mobile phone game sphere has paid off well, with Sonic the Hedgehog spinning his way into the #1 spot on the official Mobile Phone Charts.
ELSPA, the British association founded as a voice for the games industry, holds the latest charts figures in the UK every week, and their official mobile phone chart reveals that Sonic has shoved Tetris into second place, after the block-busting puzzler pipped the hedgehog to the post in February’s tot-up.
Even though Sonic the Hedgehog mobile was only half of the Mega Drive version of Sonic 1, mobile fans seemed to lap it up, obviously experiencing shots of nostalgia when playing the game.
In other chart related news, in an unsurprising twist Sonic Riders is still selling extremely well on the Nintendo Gamecube, maintaining the #1 spot since it was pretty much released. Its success may be pushed aside this week however after sales of the newly released FIFA World Cup Germany 2006 is added up over the last 7 days.
