In the last few days, a number of discoveries have been made regarding the Sonic 2 Remastered Edition.

The first is a fully working Egg Gauntlet Zone, it is effectively a boss attack mode. However it was cut from the final game, whilst some of the assets from the stage remained in the game, it wasn’t possible to access without modifying the game. Furthermore, as Taxman explains, due to a recent game update, the stage assets have been cut, even through modding it’s no longer possible to access.
But… there is one other very interesting discovery and revelation. Sonic 2 remastered has a hidden stage which is accessible in the current release via a cheat code.
For younger readers. Cheat codes are what we used before DLC was invented.
The new stage is called ‘Proto Palace Zone’ and whilst you may think ‘it’s Hidden Palace’ it’s actually different. It’s based on the original prototype stage which was on show at that toy event way back in the 1990’s.
And here is how you access it.
Step 1: Access the Sonic 2 level select code. (Tap the letters in the SEGA logo from left to right, then put two fingers on the title screen).
Step 2: Enter the debug code 01,09,09,02,01,01,02,04
Step 3: Enter this code 03,03,03,0B,10,10,10,04
And that’s it, you are now playing Proto Palace Zone, which include the original ‘track number 10’ music. But if you don’t have the remastered edition, here’s a video of the stage.

The delayed Sonic 2 Remastered finally has a release date. It’s tomorrow, and it’s coming out on both Android and iOS devices. As with Sonic 1, if you own the original you can upgrade for free, although Android owners will have to pay since theres no pre-existing version of the game on the market place. Just over a week ago, Sega announced that Sonic 2 remastered would be released as early as November of this year. A few people speculated that the game might include bonus or extra content since Sonic 1 remastered include a lot of features cut from the game as well as additional characters.
This however was speculation… Until now.
In a fact sheet posted on their Press Vault site, Sega have confirmed that Sonic 2 Remastered will include exclusive content for the mobile release, however they’ve not gone into details regarding what the content is.
They’ve also re-confirmed the release date to be November 2013, and stated that this will be a 1 player experience only… so no 2 player online Vs mode?

Obviously this means people are going to speculate as to what the exclusive content is… do I dare dream of a Hidden Palace?

Update: Sega have issued a press release which confirms both games are also coming to Android devices!
You might remember how Sonic 1 recently got remastered?’ It was dubbed the ‘stealth-tax’ version of the game, contained tons of improvements and was generally dubbed ‘awesome’ by all? Well along with this came the promise that Sonic 2 would also recieve a remastered release. That time is coming very soon.
According to touch arcade. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will get it’s ‘remastered update’ on iOs before the end of the year. As with Sonic 1, Sonic 2 will recieve improved framerates, visuals and audio enhancements. Dare we also suggest hidden extras and secrets?
With the original Sonic game, the update was given away for free, thats likely to be the case with this one, however a price point of $2.99 has been given for first time purchasers.
In addition to this. Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed has also been announced for IOS devices. It’s described as a pared down version of the console game, but it will include a new World Tour mode and support 4 player local and online multiplayer.
ASRT is due for release this December.
