My Favourite Fleetway: Knuckles Village of the Damned Part 2

Due to a combination of Sonic the Comic Con and my own laziness, Part 3 has been delayed for a bit, for now, enjoy Part 2.

knuckleswicker5

*dresses up as a vampire and emerges from behind the sofa with a scary put on deep voice*

Hello my children! It’s Halloween! And what better way to celebrate the night of ghosts and goblins by gathering around the campfire to share a scary story, today we continue our tale of conspiracy and horror as we look at a scary tale from the pages of Sonic the Comic.

Come closer as we turn the pages of Knuckles Village of the Damned Part 2! And be sure to check out Part 1 if you have not already done so… we’ll be waiting!

knucklesvillage1

We begin as we left off, Knuckles awakens, confused as he spots a strange parade in the streets below where a young woman is tied to a huge stone being led through the streets. As she begs for help, take note of her clothing why don’t you? And the costumes that the villages are wearing, again we see a small homage to classic horror, as in the previous issue, The Wicker Man makes another appearance.

knucklesvillagewolf

There is one nice inclusion here on the first page too, when Knuckles dives through the window, the artist has included a large full moon behind knuckles which although technically it’s not possible for Knuckles to be in this position with the moon directly behind him. I suspect this is another homage to something, not entirely sure what since the image of a hero or a defiant image in front of a large moon is used to much, whilst I want to say ‘An American Werewolf In London” this image of the moon overshadowing a character is used a lot over a wide range of media, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, even other comic book heroes such as Batman have used it.

knucklesvillagewicker2

As Knuckles rescues the girl we see in the background one of the villagers, another homage to The Wicker Man, you may have noticed this individual with the sun mask like face, he bears a striking resemblance to Christopher Lee’s character, Lord Summerisle. Don’t believe me? See for yourself. This character shall play an interesting role later in this story, keep that in mind for part 3.

With Knuckles and the girl on the run, they take refuge inside a barn, whilst no direct parallel here, it reminds me personally of a scene from a zombie movie, in which the heroes are trapped in a remote farmhouse with the zombie hoard outside. Or something like the movie Critters which also features a similar looking barn early in the movie, and least we forget something scary like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

knuckleswicker2

After some time resting, Knuckles is woken up by the angry villagers, how did they find him? In his sleep the girl told them where he was hiding. We now discover that the girl was in on the whole scheme, whilst the plot is a direct parallel to The Wicker Man, as Howie discovers that the girl he’s been trying to save is in on the conspiracy and he is actually to be made the sacrifice, there is another small reference here. Lots of old horror movies had a classic ‘angry mob.’ Most famously found in Frankenstein, what characteristics do these mobs have? Grab your pitchforks and sharp farming tools and head towards the monster my children.

knuckleswicker3

In a piece of dialogue almost identical to that of the Wicker Man, we discover that the villagers plan to sacrifice Knuckles in order to improve their crops. And as with Howie in The Wicker Man, Knuckle’s pleas and protests fall on death ears as he’s lead to the Wicker Egg.

knuckleswicker4

And so Part 2 ends my children, will unlike Howie, will Knuckles escape his fate in the Wicker Egg? Or will he too face the fires and burn? What other references and homages will be found inside the pages of part 3? Join me next time as we find out.

When will part 3 come? Very soon, but wait? It’s not Halloween month any more you say? Well my children, at the end of some stories… Halloween never ends! Ah-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Happy Halloween!

New Japanese Sonic Boom: ROL Trailer Makes the Game Look Exciting and Fun

YouTube Preview Image Recently, a new game trailer for Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (AKA Sonic Toon: Ancient Treasure) has been released from Sega of Japan. The trailer shows off brand new areas, brand new gameplay and a multiplayer party mode featured in the game. The trailer also gives us a good idea of what the final game will look like and it’s looking much better than what early gameplay and screenshots have shown. I gotta admit, this trailer has me more excited for the game than any English trailer that has been shown yet. A ton of action oriented gameplay is shown and the Japanese announcer sounds like he couldn’t be more excited about what’s on screen. Finally, this game is looking like it might just deliver the goods. We’ll know for sure once the game hits U.S. Store Shelves in less than two weeks on November 11th. Big thanks to Ace0902 on the SSMB for the find.

Get a Sonic Boom shirt featuring likeable characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Sticks! Oh and Amy’s there too

Someone over at Nintendo UK’s FACEBOOK page (whoopsie XD) seems to not be too fond of Pink Hedgehogs, as seen in this screencap of a post of theirs:

Hq3Ka8Y

Well whatever your views on Amy herself, you should still have a friendly laugh all the same. :P

Now will whoever posted that receive a… pink slip? :O

Oh and I think it goes without saying, but please, keep it civil. ;) Like Reggie Fils-Aime said; there’s nothing wrong with having a little fun. :)

Sonic Dies April 2015… According to the Official 2015 Calendar

calendar 20151So last year we brought you news that Sega was planning to release a Sonic the Hedgehog themed calendar for 2014, well it seems that Sega will be doing it again this year too.

And according to the calendar, Sonic will die in April. Very Sad… anyway.

We don’t know how this motobug found it’s way into the Marble Zone, the only explanation is that they’ve become self aware and are expanding from their normal habitat, there is no escape, you are all in danger, barricade your doors, your windows, arm yourselves, the motobugs are coming.

Calendar is now available to order from Amazon and it comes with a fridge magnet.

Recently the Japanese website for Sonic Boom (AKA Sonic Toon) released some new screenshots of the upcoming game as well as some info on new vehicles and weapons. Also shown were some brand new screenshots of some levels including ones that haven’t been seen before. Check below for screenshots, descriptions and of course, my hilarious captions. They are hilarious aren’t they? I NEED VALIDATION! The first pic you see at the top is the “Battle Boat”. A four-seater where one person steers and the others man guns. I’d love to see how this plays out in co-op.

Sonic- Anyone getting Phantom Menace vibes? Knuckles – “Meeza tink so!” Sonic – Shut up Knuckles.

The Submarine “Angler” is a two-person submarine craft “that specializes in high speed navigation” and “can respond to fierce fighting in water”.

Hero Bank 2 (3DS) demo to unlock Sonic and Shadow costumes in full game

img01Well this is quite the surprise! The currently Japanese-only game Hero Bank 2 on 3DS has a demo you can obtain via the newest issue of Coro Coro magazine (Pokemon fans should be very familiar with this magazine as it’s usually the place where news first ever appears in) via a QR code, and if you do this and then buy the full game, you can unlock actual models as costumes in the game, as shown on the game’s website!

Old Sonic Boom Logo Discovered

So a bit of a history lesson here. Sega originally announced the Sonic Boom cartoon on October 2nd 2013.  There were no details other than that ‘shadows on the cliff’ image.

"Here I come! More...oddly shaped than the rest of them!"

Since then we’ve been told that Boom underwent a number of design changes before it was finally announced earlier this year. Well it seems we here at TSS might have found one of the early changes.

Last week, there was a TV Convention held in Cannes France called MIPJunior, you might recall how we told you about it. Well, since then I’ve been trying to dig up any information regarding the event, and instead I found something very different.

The following image was posted on Flickr on October 5th 2013, 3 days after Boom was teased.

boompre2014

The image appears to show an advertising banner for Sonic Boom, only it’s using early assets, the big difference appears to be the title. Unlike the final design, this one is using the normal ‘Sonic’ font and a totally different ‘Boom’ logo design.

We’ll try and see if we can dig up any more early Boom promotional images, if we’re successful you’ll be the first to know.

TSS Reviews: Sonic Boom Toys (Video & pics) UPDATED AND PRICES

FULL SET! Check for new information in bold.

The gang's all here.

UPDATE: I now got the full set of figures and have some new news on this toy set including pricing. Prices are actually pretty darn fair.

After heading to two different Toys R’ Us’s yesterday, I managed to snag some of the Sonic Boom action figures that have just been released from Tomy. Outside of my video review, I wanted to give a few more details.

Prices and figure sets. (Prices are from Toys R’ Us USA)

Single packs (Sticks, Sonic and Knuckles) $5.99

Two packs (Sonic & Amy, Knuckles, & Tails, Orbot & Cubot) $7.99

Vehicle Sets (Eggman & Eggmobile, Knuckles & Hoverboard, Sonic & Spindash wheel)  $12.99

Sonic with Burnbot is $19.99

Check Toysrus.com for prices on other Sonic Boom toys and plushies.

There are two Sonic head molds. One with a frown (Sonic & Burnbot) and one with a devilish grin (Sonic & Amy)

IMG_0068[1]

While the vehicle sets are in a plastic bubble, Sonic and Burnbot are in an open box.

Burnbot has been the toughest toy I’ve ever taken out of a package. He had the wire twist-ties going inside of his body and all around. Sonic was hard to get out as well.

No bumpy elbows means slightly less articulation, but more detail on the toys and they stand up much easier. Shoulders still have huge bumps for articulation. Not noticeable on Knuckles or Tails.

I had a hard time getting Eggman’s foot to fit in the peg in the Eggmobile as it was too close to a ramp in it’s floor.

All figures can stand pretty easily. Even Burnbot if you keep one claw down.

Except Orbot and Cubot who are basically PVC figures with no moveable joints and can barely stand if at all. Cubot was the worst and he’s a freakin’ cube! I added two black lego pieces that are hard to see to keep his head up enough to make him stand.

There was only one Sticks on the rack and plenty f Knuckles and Sonic single figures leading me to believe she may be single-packed (one per case) like many female figures tend to be.

While Amy has her skin color all the way around the back of her head behind her hair/quills, for some reason, her and Sticks are ummm…..”going commando”. I guess they ran out of white paint doing the sports tape.

As mentioned in juvi’s video review (check comments section), Tails “tails” start off as one and only split into two near the end.

That reviewer had a problem with Sticks’ head being wobbly, but mine’s fine.

While the paint detail of Sonic with his spin dash vehicle in a bubble was nicely detailed, for some reason, finding a Burnbot Sonic with a good paint job was next to impossible. Many having the white of his eyes bleeding onto his muzzle.

Neither Eggman or Knuckles can turn their heads

There are 3 different toys that come with a plain Sonic action figure.

Overall, they stand up well and look nice on a shelf but lack articulation (which may be a good thing in this case) and the paint detail can be a bit off (or none in the case of poor Amy and Sticks undergarments).

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal Demo Coming to eShop

If you’ve been on the fence about picking up Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for Nintendo 3DS, now’s your chance to see if it really is your cup of tea. SEGA have announced that a demo version of the upcoming title is arriving on the Nintendo eShop on November 4th, a week before the full game’s official launch in North America.

There’s no word on what levels or content the demo will contain – however, it’s safe to bet on the idea we’ll likely see an area already shown off in previous playable demos at game expos. And of course, the demo will be completely free to download, so there’s no real harm in trying it out before deciding to buy the full thing. No news if its Wii U older brother will get the same treatment, but stay tuned for developments should it be so.

Rumor: Mario & Sonic 2016 Commissioned by IOC?

Alternative title: Please help me find something that either totally confirms this news or proves without a shadow of a doubt it’s fake.

mario and sonic

Ok so here’s the deal, every time we get news/tips like this, we do our best to authenticate each one, be it looking into what details are in the rumour or finding evidence which supports the claim via another source. For me, I try to get something which either proves it, or has something which falls in the region of reasonable doubt. With this one… I’m a little stumped. In fact I nearly didn’t news this at all, only I figured if more people are talking about it, then more people can look into if it’s true or not.

So here is the claim.

The International Olympic Committee have commissioned another Mario & Sonic at The Olympic Games title for the Rio 2016 games.

Now on it’s own, I would not have news’d that, reason being, “You might as well have predicted ‘the next Sonic game will have Sonic in it’” because… and I could be wrong with this claim, for every Olympic games since 2008, there has been a Mario and Sonic title, since the IOC commissions these games and they have a video game for every Olympic games, it’s almost a certainty that it’s going to happen again for the Rio games.

So why have I put it up? Well… this is where that reasonable doubt thing comes into it, whilst it doesn’t outright prove or disprove the claim, it adds a lot to suggest it did in fact happen.

The site which originally posted this rumor was a place called oglobo.globo, the date of the article was September 29th. So part of the ‘trying to debunk/prove process’ did the International Olympic Committee have a meeting around that date? The answer? Yes they did. The 7th Co-ordination Commission Rio 2016 meeting began on September 29th and was concluded on October 1st This information is readily available on the IOC’s website.

So now things get a bit more interesting. Unfortunately, I’m at a loss as to what specifically was discussed at that meeting, I cannot find any minuets from that meeting, however, other more general news media sites are reporting from that meeting such as demands the IOC is making on the city of Rio and the Olympics in general, so that would suggest something has been made available for either the press or the general public.

Alas, I cannot find it, anywhere… Do you see why I’ve put this up now?

Basically, I know that once I publish this, a lot of people will see it, and given the nature of the news, it’s likely a lot of Mario & Sonic fans will be talking about it, so that’s where everybody else comes in, is there anything at all which backs this up without a shadow of a doubt? Is there anything which utterly backs up or completely discredits it? The more people who are looking, especially those living in regions close to where the Olympics are due to be held, the better the chances are someone will dig something up. Something must have been released to the public or media, otherwise the more general Olympic news would not be getting picked up on

So there you go.
