JAKKS Pacific Become Global Toy Partner For Sonic Brand

JAKKS Pacific, the children’s toy company behind such toy lines such as WWE and World of Nintendo action figures, have today announced that it has commenced a global toy licensing deal with SEGA of America to produce Sonic the Hedgehog branded toys in a multi-year contract.

The toy line will consist of action figures, playsets, plush toys, and a customisable pinball track set, which will be showcased for the first time at the International Toy Fair in New York taking place this weekend from February 16th to the 19th 2019. In advance of the event, JAKKS have shown off an image of the Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow action figures that will form part of their 4″ action figure line.

Craig Drobis, SVP marketing for JAKKS Pacific, said: “We are incredibly excited to work with SEGA of America to bring this iconic property and character to life. The JAKKS line of toys, role-play, and dress-up extends the ‘Sonic’ experience from screen-time to play-time.”

As always, we will keep you up to date on all the details of the new toy line as it comes!

  1. Tails looks really good! I love everything about him, no complains there. Knuckles looks alright, but that leads into my next point. While Tails looks fine with it, the eyes look creepy and they should be fixed. Sonic and Shadow would look neat too if they changed them to be a little less derpy looking. But I wonder why Tomy lost the license? Outside of Sonic Boom they barely promoted the Sonic line in favor of their Pokemon lines. I wish Jazwares would regain the license 🙁 But this does explain why GE was able to regain their plush license so hopefully some of the currently out of stock plushes can get reproduced and put back on the market, I’m kicking myself for not getting Cream and Shadow when I did because now they both go up for 900 dollars starting price and that’s outta pocket.

  2. Shadow’s eyes look a bit weird, Knuckles has a neck, Sonic’s belly seems to be too small and Tails is as tall as Sonic : I really hope these are prototypes because I’m eager to have a nice collection with many characters and not only Sonic + Tails + Knuckles + Amy + Eggman as usual… there are so many nice-looking characters in the series!!…
What JAKKS Pacific does / did with the MARIO / Nintendo franchises is great, I hope the toys will be wonderful for SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!!…

  3. The image is probably showing prototypes, since these toys haven’t hit shelves yet. They did a really amazing job with Nintendo figures. Shadow’s hand is open like he could hold a chaos emerald maybe?
