NOTE: Due to an issue earlier it was being mistakenly priced at 800 points – apologies for this, we put out a warning across the fan boards as soon as we found out. We’re speaking with Microsoft to see if anything can be done for those of you who purchased early. Please make sure its says 560MSP when you purchase it.

UPDATE 5: From AAUK at the SSMB

Re: Refunds – Yes I’m asking about that, don’t worry. My first concern was that.

I can confirm no PS3 DLC today… when the blog goes up (its being delayed by waiting for the price to change and getting some confirmation on the above) it’ll have the date/prices for PS3.

UPDATE 4: Mike Kebby of the the SCEE PlayStation Store Team has posted his weekly PlayStation Store update on the EU PlayStation blog revealing there will be no ASR DLC released today for EU PS3 version, we’ll keep an eye out for the U.S. PlayStation Store update.

UPDATE 3: WARNING! We’ve just heard from AAUK that there’s a price issue with this DLC so we recommend you hold off just a little until this afternoon.

UPDATE 2: Metal Sonic & Death Egg Zone: Egg Hangar DLC weighing in at 152MB is now available on the U.S. Xbox Live Marketplace and the UK Xbox Live marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points.

UPDATE: We’ve just got word that the patch allows Banjo & Kazooie to be used by the CPU players. Thanks go to FireKingX at the SEGA Forums!/UPDATE END

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing fans may remember a bug-fix and DLC enabling patch was released last Wednesday for the PS3 version before the Metal Sonic and Death Egg Zone: Egg Hangar DLC was released the very next day but then quickly pulled off the PlayStation Store. Well now the same patch has just been released this morning for the Xbox 360 version, if you download it and then check the online multiplayer matchmaking screen you will see a DLC tab which informs players that room is using DLC content meaning you can only enter that lobby if you have the DLC being used in that room. The Ryo Forklift DLC is the only exception to that rule since you only download a key to unlock him on the disc, Metal Sonic and the Death Egg Zone: Egg Hangar and any future DLC is all new content.

The PS3 version got the patch the day before the DLC was released so with tomorrow’s Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store updates we will hopefully see the Metal Sonic and Death Egg Zone: Egg Hangar content released, we’ll let you know if it appears.

Thanks again to Yuluga for the pic!

  1. Hopefully i can grab it incase it gets taken down. People posted videos of them playing as Metal Sonic online, but no one put up a recording of his all star move?

  2. I like the fact we can race against banjo like in the demo now (HECK YEAH THANKS SEGA!!!! =D)

  3. @knuxtaben thanks, didnt find that in my searches.

Your right, its very unimpressive, all-star wise.

I wander if the DLC will have achievements? Cause, something like “Hit Sonic with Metal Sonics All-Star” would fit in with the other achievements in the game, and maybe like “Beat Eggman in a expert race, 3 lap minimum, on Egg Hangar.”

Easy but hey, achievements improve sales.

  4. @ Mike Langlois
I got the DLC on PS3 before it was pulled and it didn’t bring any new Trophies so I expect the Xbox 360 version won’t get any new Achievements either.

  5. I also wonder if Banjo & Kazooie get a DLC pack (I had my ideas for one) but I can’t wait to use metal (I was using my forklift yesterday and me asnd my friends kept making forklift jokes because I was using ryo forklift I wonder if they could make a hover forklift though (one of my jokes)

  6. @crap, Amigo A waste?! More like Zobiko and Zobikio, no one knows them. I don’t think they should’ve been included

  7. @Crap
Amigo is like one of best characters to play as in the game imo so he not a waste of a character slot I agree with knuxtaben no really knows Zobio & Zobiko heck when I first heard about them I was like who the fuck are these rejects pretty much crap drivers tbh, The Chaotix now that a team I would of liked to see in this game but I doubt it will ever happen lol

  8. What the hell is up with the Metal Sonic and Death Egg Zone: Egg Hangar DLC?
Is this actually a real DLC or is it an April fools prank?
I still don’t see it any where on XBL

  9. @Crash
that would be a great idea The Chaotix i didnt know who the zombies were until i did some research

  10. @crap
To be honest, amigo is a well known, and much enjoyed, face among segas many characters. People have come to find his games memorable and enjoyable and thus is why he comes up so much for this kind of thing. Of course, if you didn’t play the games, didn’t like them, or simply don’t like him, then your thought is understandable and your free to it. ^.^

    @Knuxtaben & Crash
Your views make sense with the zombies. No one truly knows who they are except the most die-hard of House of the Dead fans, and really I have a theory as to why there around. If you think about it, at least this is the case for me, there really isn’t any memorable characters to the HotD series itself, most likely these two were simply chosen as representatives to the series as a whole and the concern was little as to whether they were known of. As it goes, make a reference to a series with a stage, and it’s a remembrance of it, bring about the reference with a stage and characters, and then you make it a little more then just basic fan service, thus bringing in a few more fans to your sales. Also I agree that I would have wanted some other characters in their place as well. ^.^

All in all, I could be wrong or I could be right, but in the end everything stated here is simply my opinion and thoughts and nothing more. ^.^

  11. @ Big Boss…. Yes it’s real DLC, It was removed from the PSN shortly after it was released. There is a news story about this just a few lines down from this link.

  12. @ Big Boss
It’s real, a DLC enabling patch was released last Wednesday for the PS3 version then the DLC was accidentally released early Thursday on the PlayStation Store then removed later in the day. Today the DLC enabling patch has been released for the Xbox 360 version so the DLC will likely be released for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions tomorrow.

  13. @ XD375
Tomorrow is Thursday :p Both Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store update on a Thursday.

  14. ok a small note it IS possible to race against banjo as an avatar (first time I raced against him in the full game) but not sure on the other characters

  15. Hmm…I wonder when the Will will get any DLC :/ I don’t have ASR, but I’d like to get it and download characters for it when I do.

  16. @ Grassy
Only the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are getting DLC since the Wii can’t handle huge file size DLC like this as it doesn’t have a hard drive which is why it only receives smaller sized DLC like music tracks for Guitar Hero and Rock Band games or small items for Animal Crossing and the WiiWare Final Fantasy games.

  17. Why are they letting banjo and kazooie in the races? They are the whole reason I’m not getting the 360 version. I was going to get the 360 one since i heard they didn’t appear as CPU characters which was great since their all-star is a giant cheat as it is unavoidable but now that they ARE doing that… Thanks PS3!

  18. Wow… Why couldn’t they have a cool all-star like metal overlord or something… What did THAT have to do with metal sonic?

  19. Guys there’s a price issue with this DLC so we’re recommend you hold off just a little until this afternoon.

Sorry about this, I’ll have more soon.

  20. Well, i have a PS3, i hope this DLC comes out on PS3 today cuz, xbox allways comes first lol

  21. Question to ArchangelUK. Is this Metal Sonic DLC exclusive to Xbox Live Gold Members only?

I tried to access the Marketplace from in-game but I don’t have enough privileges to access it. Also, the download does not appear on the dashboard marketplace.

  22. @Edge

Their all-star move is avoidable. I’ve done it many times. Some people just aren’t good enoug to avoid it.

  23. Eight bucks??
I see what you did thar! Everyone rushed to download Metal for 800 thinking he would be removed again 😛
    Whats his all star?

  24. I was a bit disappointed with Death Egg Zone personally. I was expecting lots of nods to the Sonic 2/Sonic & Knuckles zones of the same name, hoping the track would be based heavily on one or the other, or both. A large Eggman mech, some Death Egg badniks, that “wroop-wroop-wroop” looping teleport light thing dashing around the place, even Silver Sonic in there! None of that is present, it looks vaguely like the S&K level in very general space station terms, but there’s nothing very specific about it. Lots of large moving parts and flying ships – I think I may have made out Eggman’s escape ship from Doomsday, which is nice, but that was about it as far as I could see.

That’ll teach me to avoid the spoilers and risk it instead of looking at a video of it first. Next time I’ll be more careful.

  25. Had a look at the ps3 store, metal sonic’s definitely not there =( oh well. next week hopefully

  26. & Liquid Snake

I take it you missed that the start line is the boss from Death Egg Zone act 1? And during the large high turn the background is also from Death Egg Zone.

But anyway… PS3 version officially released on April 22nd, we also get a premium theme too.

  27. @Geist
Hotd does have some reconigzable characters like G (who has appeared in almost all of the hotd games) nut those kinda characters are a little mature to be in the game, so they probably pick Zobio and Zobiko to be in the game. I wish they add G in the game, but Z&Z are just fine.

Anyway, Metal Sonic DLC!!! Yeah! Next stop Saturn characters. It’ll be great to see Segata, NiGHTS, and Sakura Shinguji

  28. Xbox seems to be getting all the goodies, lucky them lol.
Spose they sell more on xbox compared to the other consoles though

  29. I don’t understand why the PS3 version can’t get the DLC on the same day. >.> I kinda had to get the PS3 version by default, seeing as my Xbox crapped out (for the FOURTH time…). Ah, well. Even if it’s late, at least we’re getting it, I guess.

  30. @cloverdox

gamestop gave me xbox’s that were broke out of the box (4 to be exact) so I know how you feel… At least your with a more capable, advanced, and reliable system now!

  31. Oh man, I hope something can be done about the points issue, I knew 800 points was a little too expensive, can’t belive I bought it too quickly… >_<

  32. @ RGX
Well ArchangelUK is looking into it with Microsoft, let’s hope he’s successful so we who bought it at 800 points can get our 240 points back. If I hear anything I’ll post an update.

  33. Cool, I hope they do new artwork for all the new DLC characters. I also wish they could figure out a way to get new characters on the wii version.

  34. Very expensive for what it is to be honest. Kinda regretting this purchase already – no new achievements, and for one new track and character? Save your money in my opinion.

  35. All of the sudden I feel like I should’ve gotten the 360 version instead of the Wii one. D,: It does seem awful expensive for DLC, though… :/

What I want to know is why that theme couldn’t have been in the actual release instead of the Final Fortress theme. It certainly would’ve added some variety to the Sonic stages. :/

  36. For the love of God, Hello Sega! Yeah, back here! You missed us guys in the back row, you know…. the PC users? *Sigh*

  37. @ Shadzter

Well, dang. I have both a 360 and a Wii, but…Well, the 360 isn’t connected to the internet, but my Wii is. DLC, or playability with friends?

Oh well…At least Shadow is playable without downloadable content 😉

  38. What a tease, if the DLC was already available earlier for PS3 why do people who missed out on it have to wait 2 more weeks? Is there any reason to make PS3 owners wait longer?

  39. You know what would be really sweet? If Sega did something like they did for Rock Band 1 on the Wii… after they get a fairly large amount of DLC, they could release a disc with the DLC added to the game for ~$20-30, but it would only play if you had the original (through save file or maybe making you insert the original disc). That would be amazing. 😀

  40. Can anyone explain why they made PS3 22nd of april it doesnt seem fair, they teased us last week with the date mistake and now they tease us with the Xbox 360 users, so they make us wait, 2 more extra weeks, seems really stupid to me…

  41. Downloaded it. Fun track. Long, too. Also, is it ironic that they can design a level where you fall from a high track and land on a low track in the racing game, when they couldn’t do that in the past several 3D platforming games?

  42. @Matt

you could do that on the grinding race in SA2 Battle. It was pretty cool, but hard to pull off right. Mario Kart 64 had that too, it could make or break the entire race.

  43. @Matt

I could do it in SA2 battle on the grind rail if anyone remembers theres some other games where u can do that, in SADX in final EGG you can jump at the right time and hit the playtform

  44. Does anybody mind having a race on the PS3 using the Metal Sonic pack because I cant find anybody :/

  45. @Sonictoast

Don’t forget that massive shortcut you can take in shadow’s sky rail where you jump grind rails and skip half the stage lol

  46. I can’t wait though, and news is, you can race agaiunst banjo as anyone (I did it with shadow and ryo forklift, dodged allstar move ^_^ it was fun)

  47. Downloaded it. Fun track. Long, too. Also, is it ironic that they can design a level where you fall from a high track and land on a low track in the racing game, when they couldn’t do that in the past several 3D platforming games?
