This just in! Video game composer and co-creator of Video Games LIVE!, Tommy Tallarico has just been announced as a special guest for Sonic Revolution in Anaheim on June 15. Tommy is famous for composing many video game soundtracks including Earthworm Jim, MDK and even worked on Sonic and the Black Knight. Sonic Revolution’s announcement is below.
We are proud to announce another special guest to Sonic Revolution: Tommy Tallarico from Video Games Live! Tommy will be present on stage during the convention to talk about his work with Sonic music, as well as a Q&A about creating Sonic music.
Most known for being the co-creator of the concert series Video Games Live, Tommy Tallarico is also known for composing music for many major video games such as Bloodrayne, Earthworm Jim, and Pac-Man World. In the Sonic Community, he is known as a composer for the music of Sonic and the Black Knight.

Those of you fortunate enough to have made it to one of the many worldwide live performances of Video Games Live, an orchestral showcase of some of the greatest suites from classic video game titles hosted by Tommy Tallerico and Jack Hall, may have had the opportunity to experience the magical rendition of the Staff Credits from Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
According to Destructoid, fans of the show can expect a CD and DVD release of the show performed recently by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans. Alongside the Sonic Medley, the CD and DVD will also feature music from Zelda, Super Mario, Halo and a rocking version of One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII, complete with Tommy rockin’ out on his axe. The CD run time is currently pipped at 75 minutes for the CD, so you’re really getting as much as they can shove on there! The DVD will include over 3 hours of bonus material and behind the scenes footage in addition to the 100-minute performance.
Video Games Live: Level 2 will be released State-side on October 19th, 2010 – so far there are no details on prices or a worldwide release – but I guess there’s always the option to import!

We thought we’d share this cool little gift we got from Simon, also known as ‘ForeverSonic’, at the Video Games Live concert on Friday. It’s a little card wishing the site a happy 8th birthday, along with a little present. And you know how the best presents are always homemade (unless they’re from Sega or us, of course). A lot of time and effort must have gone into making this fluffy Sonic head, although now we’re worried if there’s a fluffy Sonic body wandering the earth looking for it. It is Halloween this week after all.

Whilst the TSS crew were at Video Games Live last night watching things rock out, we were surprised that the set contained no Sonic the Hedgehog medley this year. We didn’t mind though, as someone on stage let slip that co-creator and presenter, Tommy Tallarico, is to be working on the music to Sonic and the Black Knight.
The reveal came during the evening show when the editor for the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, Keith Pullin, took the stage to award Tommy with for his contribution to video game music (some 200-odd games he’s composed for, from Earthworm Jim to Disney’s Alladin to Metroid Prime). Pullin stated that Tallarico is working on a Sonic the Hedgehog game, whilst the presenter turned to the audience and shhh’d everyone down. Video Games Live, a concert dedicated to the music of the computer games we play, took place for the first time in Glasgow on June 26th 2008. Richard Jacques was there (as you can see, plotting some evil scheme) as was Tommy Tallarico (Earthworm Jim, Metroid Prime) and many other composers of legend. Two brave souls, JJ4Eva and ForeverSonic, entered the concert as boys and emerged as men. Or something. Here’s their account of the night. Take it away boys.

A nice rainy day of June 26th 2008 sees our two travellers James “JJ4eva” Maloney, and Simon “ForeverSonic” Shirley making their way to Glasgow for a big Scottish event. That event is Video Games Live, the first time the musical concert has ever been held in Scotland.
The day started off well, with JJ and ForeverSonic meeting none other than Richard Jacques outside of the concert hall in the late afternoon. Much conversation and laughs were had. We met Sonic, Mario and Ai Ai outside of the Glasgow Royal Concert hall. A lot of pictures were taken with Sonic and co keeping our men happy until they were called away back inside. Yuji Naka (the self-titled “Father of Sonic”) and Richard Jacques (music composer for Sonic 3D and Sonic R) are listed to appear in person at the Video Games Live touring concert, during a pre-show event alongside many other top brass game developer superstars.
To kick off the Stateside tour in the US, the VGL team are preparing a special “pre-show” event on July 6th 2005, taking place from 5:30pm – 8:00pm. Following from our initial report a while back on Video Games Live – the touring concert dedicated to video game music in America – the team have provided us with more tour dates available. Those who can’t get a seat at the debut concert at the Hollywood Bowl in LA can catch it a little closer to home, with events in Boston, Detroit, Dallas and many other places.

A special music concert playing in the US this summer focuses completely on Video Game compositions, and Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the series to be included.
‘Video Games Live’ is a touring concert series that is made up of video game composers, and will be playing a mixture of classic themes from a range of influential computer game series, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and even Pong and Donkey Kong. The concert series will begin its tour in the States at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (CA) on Wednesday 6th July, and will be hitting various hotspots in the US over the course of the summer.
The composers of the event are video game music maestros themselves, with co-creators Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall having made music for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Earthworm Jim and Jade Empire, Splinter Cell respectively.
