Mario & Sonic Rio 2016 3DS Japanese Box

UPDATE: Just found a small Japanese trailer for the 3DS version on Nintendo’s JP Youtube channel.

What IS going on with the Wii U version? Maybe it is just a bit delayed, or being moved to the NX, we’ll find out I guess.

ORIGINAL: Here it is! Japanese box of the 3DS version, which now adds DK and Amy to the mix, and also new screens that confirm Rosalina, Ludwig von Koopa, and Dry Bones are in the game as playable characters.

Amazon Japan only shows the 3DS version at the moment, as we know, the game is also due on Wii U and it’s also coming out on arcades in Spring 2016. We also see a reconfirmation of amiibo support for the game. Nintendo’s Japanese twitter account also confirms the date alongside a fuller piece of artwork, complete with Sticks, and a horse!

  1. I’m upset they didn’t mention this in the Nintendo Direct here down west. Either way, I adore the Olympic series and finally seeing new characters in the mix is in my opinion breathing some greatly needed new life into the series. I love it, and I can’t wait to see more.
    (Also, for those interested, it appears your favorite space waifu has finally arrived :D)

    1. Also, why isn’t more attention being given to this game? You can argue M&S Olympics isn’t the most relevant thing anymore, but this one actually has interesting new content that I believe needs more coverage than this, and what could that Amiibo support be all about?

    1. Wow! That’s awesome! It’s great to see-…wait- Wave the Swallow? I’m sorry, but the excitement is halted by just how bizarre a choice that is. But still, Woohoo! New character! It’s great to see her get more exposure. She does seem to be the athletic type.

    Looks like we’ll be getting a ton of characters from both sides.

  5. WTF?! WHY IS STICKS IN THIS GAME!?!? Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy aren’t in they’re Boom designs so Sticks just sticks out like a sore thumb!

    1. Who would you rather have as a Boom representative: Sticks, Boom Sonic, or Boom Knuckles? Probably Sticks.

    2. Yeah Edward Thorpe Rosalina Sports outfit looks smoking hot with her sports outfit in Mario Tennis Ultra Smash & Mario & Sonic At The Rio Olympic games 2016!

        1. Your problem with just the Female Characters getting Sports Outfits? Is it because you would also like to see the Male Characters in Sports Outfits as well?

  7. It seems as if this kind of semi-confirms Zazz as playable. If Wendy and Ludwig are playable, surely this means…. hm.

    I feel like we’re waiting on the rest of the Koopalings, the rest of the Deadly Six, and Storm the Albatross. That’s a whopping 11 new characters for both sides. (Nabbit, Rosalina, Diddy, Koopalings, Dry Bones, Rouge, Jet, Wave, Storm, Sticks, Deadly Six) Jeez, this roster has drastically jumped. 😀 It’s interesting that Sticks is playable. I am still wondering if she’s planned to be in the main universe, given how she’s also a part of that one Sonic poll.

  8. At the end of the trailer I saw Amiibo logo. Wonder what features will it add to the game or if there will be a newline of mario&sonic amiibos for the game…The latter is not likely I guess…

  9. I didn’t care of this spin off.
    But then they said Wave is playable.
    INSTANT BUY, DAY ONE.
    It’s the good ol’ Wave…my favourite character. :,)

Damit Nintendo we were all hoping to get Dry Bowser in Mario & Sonic At The Rio Olympic Games 2016 for that Wii U & 3DS but hey unless we got Dry Bones in this game right there people.Because he has never been a playable character in Super Mario series for a long time welp I’m so glad he’s back first time of Mario & Sonic At The Rio Olympic games 2016 so thank you Nintendo for bring Dry Bones back free at last anyone could play Dry Bones once again. And also I’m excited for Rosalina, Luigi, Bowser, Metal Sonic & LudWig Von Koopa, my five favorite characters in Mario & Sonic At The Rio Olympic games 2016 next year to get it for Wii U!

  11. its good to see more information about the game but i dont understand why are they talking about putting it on the NX they already planning it for the Wii U and 3DS and also its good to see rosalina in the game.

    But….I wonder how many we’ll get this time?

    1. Who knows? We might get at least 48 characters, 24 on each side.

      Power: Wario, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Rosalina, Morton, Roy, Knuckles, Vector, Omega, Zavok, Zomom and Storm
      All-Around: Mario, Luigi, Bowser Jr, Wendy, Ludwig, Iggy, Amy, Blaze, Cream, Sticks, Zor, Zeena
      Speed: Shadow, Sonic, Metal Sonic, Zazz, Jet, Espio, Nabbit, Yoshi, Daisy, Toadette, Lemmy, Larry
      Skill: Peach, Waluigi, Diddy Kong, Toad, Ludwig, Iggy, Dr Eggman, Tails, Silver, Rouge, Zor, Master Zik

      1. Can’t Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games have Story Mode on both versions?
        Also, I’m really looking to buy this Game.
        My favourite installments from this series is the Vancouver 2010, London 2012 and this one. I didn’t like the first and fourth installments because the first one didn’t have a difficulty settings and I didn’t like the shooting events like Skeet and Archery and Sochi didn’t have enough events and few selection of events are playable online.

        1. If they do have Story Mode in both versions, that’s great. But like i said, it’s a 50/50 chance of it happening
