Jim Carrey Name-Drops Sonic Movie As He’s Getting Kicked Out of the Golden Globes

The annual Golden Globes ceremony took place over the weekend in the US, and it was pretty meme-worthy for a number of reasons – largely because of the jokes fired out by hosts Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh. But we weren’t expecting one of the jokes to involve Jim Carrey and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

In the midst of the televised event, Samberg and Oh comically ‘eject’ Carrey from the ‘Movie’ section of the audience seating, as this year he was supposed to be sitting in the ‘TV’ section. As he was being escorted, the Ace Ventura funnyman tried to lean on his role as Dr Eggman to convince the hosts to remain in his seat. It didn’t work out.

“I just finished a film, it’s called Sonic the Hedgehog, comes out in November,” Carrey says, to which Samberg replies, “Well, you know, come back next year. I’m sure it’ll be nominated.” Ouch!

Watch the clip below.

All in good fun though, and for the forensics among you it’s probably worth mentioning that this is most likely not meant to be an intentional dig at the Sonic the Hedgehog movie – rather a joke focusing on Carrey – so let’s not get our knickers in a twist.

One thing’s for sure – the movie’s coming out in November, according to Jim Carrey. So that’s something, at least! We’ll have to wait until then to see if the movie’s likely to really get nominated at next year’s Golden Globes!

It’s too late for that: Twitter’s already aflame with people getting the wrong idea.
