Sonic Lost World Coming To PC

Sonic Lost World, a once exclusive Nintendo Wii U title, is set to arrive on PC via Steam on November 2nd, SEGA have announced.

Initially released as the first of a three game Nintendo exclusivity deal back in 2013, Sonic Lost World introduced a plethora of new gameplay mechanics including a run button, parkour abilities, new colour powers and more. The title was released to mixed reviews from critics, and sold around 710,000 copies as of March 2014.

Lost World saw Sonic taking on a new group of foes named The Deadly Six, as they rise up against Dr. Eggman in a bid to take over the world. Here’s a rundown of the game’s plot from SEGA:

“In his latest plot to defeat Sonic and rule the world, Dr. Eggman has harnessed the power of menacing creatures known as the Deadly Six. However, when the Deadly Six rise up against their new master, Sonic must unite with his arch nemesis Eggman and explore the mystical Lost Hex in order to take them on head-to-head. Use Sonic’s amazing new moves & incredible Colour Powers to speed across a variety of unique terrains, racing inside, outside & upside down in every level.”

The game also launched alongside a 3DS version which sees no sign of being reintroduced, and some exclusive NiGHTS DLC which may be included with the PC version. Other post content for the game included two free levels based off various Nintendo IPs which will almost certainly remain Wii U exclusives.

The title will launch for a discounted price of £19.99, and users who pre-purchase the title before release will also get the PC version of Sonic & SEGA All Stars Transformed included for free. Not a bad price at all for these two games – you can purchase the game at the official Steam page right here.

  1. Lost World is one of the most underrated Sonic games out there, so I’m glad to see it be sold to people other than just Wii U owners.

      1. It’s a fully enjoyable game. Would you care to elaborate on why you believe it to be so bad so we can gauge your remark more fairly?

        1. The level design is horrible to me. The Bosses are all boring and uninteresting. Nothing ever gets explained in the story at all.

That makes it a bad Sonic to me. Also, most of the music isn’t really good. Also, the gimics this game has are ridiculous in number and none of them really work well. Using the Parkour(?) system can be very faulty in this game. Especially when trying to collect Red Rings or when in a 2D Section.

But that’s just me. If you like the game more power to you.

  2. One of the screenshots on the Steam page shows the NiGHTS into dreams… stage as selectable, so there’s a good chance it’s in the Steam version.

    1. That should be a must, in the other hand the lame Yoshi stage and the awesome Zelda stage are obviously out of the question for DLC though with today’s advancements in fan mods perhaps someone could recreate those.

    1. You are getting HD colors, look at the Lost World screenshots.

(why did smart alec me take over damnit)

      1. Lost Word isn’t a bad game, it just fails to compare with Colors. I’d buy a whole new copy of Colors just because the graphics were HD. It would probably compare to Unleashed it it were HD.

        1. Trouble is, the werehog levels play a key role in the story so we’d either be left with giant gaps or really long cutscenes to compensate for the lack of levels…

  3. An underrated game. I’m glad it’s getting out to a wider audience. My criticism would be that it didn’t feel like a Sonic game. It was still very enjoyable and very polished though. I rate it highly!

Let’s hope an announcement of a new console Sonic game follows in the near future (preferably one that isn’t a piece of shit this time). And I hope it’s proper Sonic and not this “Boom” muck.

  4. Well, there goes any hope of the 25th anniversary game being any good. They’re clinging to this direction like it’s their baby.

  5. 0% excitement for playing this game on Steam though I’m really happy this marks the end of the Nintendo exclusivity deal.

Hope the next major Sonic title (the anniversary game most likely) heads to Steam as well, also a port of Sonic Heroes and Sonic Unleashed would be great.

    1. I’d love to get an official port of Unleashed, as redundant as it seems with the Unleashed Project floating around. But Heroes already got a PC release, albeit a sub-par one back when the game first released.

      1. Me too, personally I would absolutely love a Sonic Unleashed port with the graphics and hub world of the PS3/XBOX360 version but with the gameplay of the Wii version, also it would be awesome if they make the werehog levels optional in the story mode.

  6. if the game is on steam then that means free updates and patches whenever sega feels like it.
    not to mention – MODS
MODS MODS MODS MODS MODS – theres already plans for an episode metal :3

  7. The next thing you know they might port “Rise of Lyric” on Xbox One with a lot of improvements like Sonic’s speed being increased, more levels, bug fixes, glitch fixes, improved graphics, higher frame rate and fitting music.

    1. Eh… eheh. Ahah. Ahahaha. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!
… whew. Oh, I’m sorry. It’s just… that game is a lost cause. Their efforts would be better put to use on a 25th anniversary game, IMO.

  8. Odd choice to make. I mean, it’s an okay-ish game, but its story sucks. Oh, and BTW? Still waiting for Sonic Heroes to appear on Steam.

    1. Sonic Heroes has existed on PC since like 2004 on its, not part of a compilation. Then it appeared as part of a compilation I think.

  9. Anyone else still waiting for sonic riders (1) to get ported to steam? (yes i know their is a pc version but it lack 4-player split screen. Online would be a nice bonus as well.)

  10. “We’re delighted to be able to bring Sonic Lost World to PC.” Said John Clark, VP of Commercial Publishing for SEGA Europe; “This is the latest in a string of high quality PC ports of past SEGA titles that we will be building on in the coming months and years.”

  12. Neat. I’m glad LW is getting more exposure now.

I guess this will determine if LW sold poorly because of the WiiU or because of its quality.

      1. AAA titles have been known to affect the sales of Sonic titles in the past, so that’s very plausible. I think the fact that the game was on the WiiU (a console nobody had in 2013) was a big factor as well.

        1. Yeah, and Sonic has a history of doing well on Steam too, so even though this probably won’t sell much more than before (being a rerelease and all) it’ll probably at least match it. With the free copy of ASRT it’s more than worth the $30 price tag.

  13. Wow! This is cool news! 😀 I think Sonic Lost World is rather underrated. Not the best, but still a fun platformer.

But what happened to the Nintendo exclusivity deal? Was that just for a limited time? Don’t get me wrong, I love that it’s coming to PC… but with this door open, I wonder what else they plan to do. I too would adore Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Colors on PC.

  14. ohhhh YYAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!
😀 i wonder if my laptop would be able to handle it! ehehhe
    very cool! its so unexpected!
i barely have Sonic generations for PC… and to have a modern Sonic game like this one! ahh so cool!

i hope the next one to be “Unleashed” 😉

      1. You gave me the sudden capability to hit harder.

This game could mean that the modding community could have another branch, but I’d rather go and play Sonic Generations mods than whatever the modding community has to offer for this one. It’d probably be a bunch of Mario level ports and nothing more.

        1. Classified, this isn’t actually all that dumb. There’s a large amount of people who want to play Lost World
WiiU, but don’t like the 3DS version and don’t want a WiiU. Plus there’s plenty of people who simply don’t
want a Nintendo console at all but would like to play Lost World. This Steam release is for them.

          1. (Sorry that the formatting looks so bad. My computer was having an issue earlier with the text so I added line breaks to make the text legible.)

  15. I honestly think Sega’s better off porting games to PC and Mobile like their doing now with an occasional big release here and there. And I don’t mean the micro transaction games like runners. While not that impressed with Lost World, it’s nice to see more games coming to steam; I think most will just pick it up during sales.

  16. Nice to see the majority of the comments here are positive. Lost World, in my opinion is a very polished game, which took lots of risks to feel fresh. It was enjoyable only when I got the hang of the parkour. This is great news add it will increase the sales of the game and we’ll see the game get modded

  17. Am I the only one seeing this as a “We didn’t get to release a ‘console’ title so lets push something else aside from the mess runners was and is” type of thing?

    Cos, that’s how I see it. :I

Though, I’ll get to enjoy the Wii U version compared to the 3DS version now!

  18. Well it’s official, time to sell my Wii U. Sonic Lost World mods here I come. ^_^

  19. So, how about a reskin of the Zelda and Yoshi content? Replace the Zelda stuff with Sonic and the Black Knight, and the Yoshi level can be Chao-themed.

  20. Yes finally Sonic Losr World is coming to PC steam for the first time Sega is listening to Sonic fans around the world so glad to hear them!

  21. I have a feeling that this is not too unrelated to offsetting SEGA’s recent losses. I mean, digital and ports are a simple and easy way to make profit.

  22. They could have picked literally any other game to port and they picked this piece of garbage? This was the biggest waste of 30 bucks I spent on the Wii U this year. Absolutely terrible “Sonic” game.

Oh well. On the other hand, maybe we can get some cool mods to fix this jumbled clusterfuck of a game. That’ll be neat to look at. <3

  23. Well, I guess why not? The Wii U exclusivity probably damaged the projected profits from the game, so releasing it on PC is actually not a bad idea to get some profit back.

  24. The yoshi’s island zone and legend of zelda zone will remain Wii u exclusives, however with mods for the game we might get something better than those two DLC’s

  25. Off-topic but, has this page gone REALLY screwy for anyone else?

Also I mentioned this on the Dash 2 article before you posted about the announcement and before I even knew about the announcement… Either it was on Steam for pre-purchase before they announced it or you were late to the punch here because I mentioned it, complete with Steam page, after finding it there… lol

Anyway, I never got the hate towards this game. It’s a fully enjoyable game, who cares if it’s very similar to a Mario title or lacks a decent story? What happened to games being made to be played and enjoyed through interacting with them?

    1. My screen too. I actually can’t read anything after “annou” and “an” on your comment.

Normally I would just use the inspect element tool to read the basic text, but the way this website is coded makes the basic text
impossible to find. Will have to send an error report of some kind.

Lost World is far from a perfect game, but its a lot of fun and worth at least a rent, especially since the price drop.

  26. I really hope they fix the graphical oddities with Super Sonic’s mouth and quills when using parkour.

    1. The quills changing while in parkour was intentional, though. It’s meant to be a call-back to how some of Super Sonic’ sprites in the Genesis games were just Sonic’s recoloured.

If it was by accident, he wouldn’t have different colours at all.

  27. Maybe there’ll actually be mods now that return all of the boost mechanics I love. <3

Then again, that much speed on those stages…….

Ulgh, maybe some things are better left not being modded.

    Do it anyway tho. X)

  28. This is like nostalgia déjà vu. Remember when Sega had those Sega PC Sonic Collection Four Pack box sets at Costco and Sam’s Club in the late 90’s and early 2000’s? Sonic may be getting this sort of treatment again on PC–only this time, more games than ever. Boy, am I excited for what’s to come!
