  1. Ah… look at those 3DS screenshots. They all look fantastic, even with how blandly I think of Tropical Coast. Look at that, a screenshot of Zomom’s battle in the 3DS version, as well as more Frozen Factory. The Wii U version also looks, and sounds gorgeous too. I look forward tremendously to both versions… Let’s see if Dimps redeems their reputation from the Advance days for the 3DS. 🙂

  2. Ugh. Why does the art style have to be such a blatant ripoff of Mario Galaxy’s? I’ve always found Sonic’s art style more gorgeous than Mario’s, so this really feels like a downgrade.

    1. I’ve sort of been thinking that for a while too. Though, I was sort of harped on for saying so… I will say that not only do these levels look too much like locales from New Super Mario Bros… but also, even Sonic’s past locations return as not!levels again. Like Sonic 4. (Really, people? You can’t tell me that Frozen Factory’s casino is super original.) This game looks fantastic so far, but honestly, I feel when thinking up the levels, they were a little lazy. The level design and layout looks fine, but the ideas and levels themselves aren’t too good to me. I can’t help but sort of cringe at segments of Tropical Coast which look no less than Sparkling Waters from New Super Mario Bros. U, or something. Plus, even Iizuka himself stated that he got inspired off of Super Mario Galaxy (though I still believe it’s bull when he says the development team had no inspiration off of Sonic X-treme.)I love most of the game’s ideas, but I wish the level locales and ideas were not so… bland.

  3. Scary fish is scary.

As for the theme, I’m not personally liking it. I just, it feels too “Mario”. I don’t want to compare them, but it just…I don’t know. It just doesn’t feel Sonic nor does it capture it. At least I remember it a little bit though compared to Generations’ “theme” XD

  4. You know, I’ve been defending this game against accusations of being like Mario (Galaxy, 64, Hotel, etc.), but this theme did sound pretty dang Mario-esque. Sure there were still some telltale Sonical flourishes, but I really feel like this would be a better fit for Mario & Sochi at Sonic’s Rings than Lost World.

That said it is still pretty catchy.

  5. I know everyone is saying that this game is very close to Mario, and I sadly have to agree, but maybe Sega is pushing more for that kind of style due to the fact that this game is exclusive to Nintendo, so maybe they’re just trying to get the game to fit in with other games, cus so far it does remind me of an Nintendo game…
    Well that’s my theory anyway.

    1. Or maybe Nintendo is just slowly absorbing Sega and Sonic until they lose their identity completely.

  6. While Sonic Lost Worlds certainly looks good, I’m starting to worry that it won’t sound good. The BGM in Tropical Coast was slow and uninteresting (in my opinion) and Windy Hill Act 3 was practically non-existent( maybe that was intentional?). Sonic games have always done well in having original, speedy music to match the blue-blur but I’m afraid it’s taking a turn for the worst. I am not going to make any judgements since who knows what the game will bring until it’s released. It’s just that so far some of the stuff I’ve heard (this theme included) sound… lacking.

    1. In the face of the four released Desert Ruins themes, I’m gonna have to wholeheartedly disagree.
You’re telling me you really didn’t like DR Act 1’s theme? Or Frozen Factory Act 1 for that matter?

  7. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY RINGS!!! :.( why can’t US have a closer release, it’s more then a month a way, and I’m DYING to get my hands on both versions

  8. Meh, personally, I’m not feeling the main theme. It sounds too “Mario-y”; Mario and SOnic games have always had completely separate sounding soundtracks, and this one is more on the Mario side with its overly happy tone and choice of instruments. Sonic tunes have always had much more intensity and usually a mixture of something either slightly rock or techno related. This just sounds like another happy go lucky tune, which just falls flat and dull.
