SEGA Europe Reveals Sonic Classic Collection Release Date

Under all the Project Needlemouse mania SEGA Europe have quietly updated the product page for upcoming portable retro-fest Sonic Classic Collection. The page now displays a 12th March 2010 release date.

SEGA’s Australian product page for the game has also received an update with the same 12th March 2010 release date, a day later than SEGA Australia originally had it down for in a recent schedule sent out to press. SEGA of America’s product page still has the game down for a March 2010 release but nothing specific yet, we’ll let you know when a solid date is announced.

  1. I might get it. I’m undecided at the moment, the horror of Sonic the Hedgehog GENESIS still sticks out in my mind.

Price would be important as well. As awesome as these games are, anything above £20 would be a bit too steep, considering I paid that much for the Mega Drive Collection on 360.

Regardless, I’ll get it eventually. Portable Sonic FTW ^_^

  2. Picking it up? Definitely! I have waited for Sonic 3 on the go for SO DAMN LONG!

Just wish you could get your save files from the Wii on the DS. Then I could go super sonic!

  3. I’m gonna hold to see if this turns out to be on par with the other ports of the games, or as bad as the GBA ‘Genesis’. Which… is basically what @Gavvie said, but I was thinking it too before I read his comment XD

So as long as it plays decently well, which I’m sure it should be able to, I’ll probably grab it. My DSi needs more love and timeless Sonic games is the way to show some X3

  4. If it has unlockables like animations or videos or anything, I’m in.. my DSi needs some love too

I’ll add this all to the article too.

  6. If these are exactly the same games as I had on Megadrive, then Sonic Jam and then Sonic Mega Collection then I won’t be getting it.

Com’on Sega how about sprucing these games up a bit. Fix bugs and framerate, maybe even add co-op modes. And maybe Neptune will collide with the Earth…

Retailers are never a good source for release dates, it’s always best to wait for the official word. I’ve used the box art I’ve posted as it’s the biggest I can find for the UK edition which the post is focused on. Thanks anyway though.

  8. @ Some Dude
That’s the Australian cover. The UK one has the BBFC U on it, thanks though 🙂

  9. Well genesis emulators work full speed on the ds.
So I’m about 90% certain this won’t be a dodgy sonic gba styled job.

  10. Hmmm… I already have Mega Collection Plus for the PC, Ultimate Genesis Collection, A whole bunch of the older Win 95 PC releases (Sonic and Knuckles Collection, Sega Smash Pack 1 and 2, and various others), not to mention a model 1 Genesis with all the original Sonic games (except for Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine), finally I have a Nomad (if you want to get more in depth I also have a Game Gear and Master Gear converter as well as the various Sonic Master System games).

So, do I really want another repackaged release that I can take on the go (even though my Nomad now last for about 3-4 and a half hours)?

    Hmm….. Eh, why not.

  11. i hope they don’t just take the history of sonic from mega collection but by the length it certainly looks like it.
ohh and for me it’s a must-buy, S3&K playing everywhere?
    count me in

  12. Despite already having them all emulated on my PSP, I still really want this. Like has already been said though, £30 is rather steep, so I think I’ll give it a few months before I pick it up. I’m sure I can find it for about £5-£10 in a local bargain bin by then.

I do think they maybe could have included a few more games in there though, like Blue Sphere, Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix. Still, a man can dream……..

  13. I’m still baffled at the appearence of the standing sonic in mushroom hill. Hopefully the games will be edited in the way that they were in Sonic Jam

  14. @ Lunar_Sonic : Yeah same here & something when they say the release date like 3/2/10 the game always comes a day later & I hate waiting 1 more day becuase waiting for a game feels like 4ever

  15. What’s the point of getting this if you already played all these games on like 3 systems already?

  16. @Sjmaster
games collections like this are very handy if your away from home on a holiday,on a break at work or on a train somewhere.

i hope they port it too this to the sony psp, my psp needs more Sonic games than Sonic Rivals games

  17. ^They have, SuperSonikku92. It’s called the SEGA Genesis Collection. S3&K isn’t on there, though.
