Sonic Wrecks Awards – Nominees Listed

Sonic Sprite Comic fansite Sonic Wrecks has just posted their Award nominees online, causing some controversy over their fan fiction category in the process.

Fifteen awards are listed in this year’s ‘Handies’, including categories for humour, best design and biggest disappointment of the year. Among those included are The Green Hill Zone for Best Resource, Sonic Yoda for Most Underrated Site and Untamed Beauty for Specialist Website.

The Sonic City Blognik has been nominated for most humourous (although TSS isn’t quite sure what context to take that in), and TSS Network sites have been treated well, with Sonic Spriters Network up for two awards (Most Improved and Specialist Site), The Sonic Stadium for Best Use of Images, and FastFeet Media for Best Resource. FFM, Sonic News and the soon-to-be-rebranded SEGASonic Radio are also in the running for the Most Essential Service award.

No sooner had the finalists been announced however that complaints were made. Some comment posters at Sonic Wrecks decried the inclusion of Miles the CyFox into the Creative Award, claiming the fan fictions were derivative and convoluted. ArchAngelUK has since gone on record to defend both the nominations list and the definition of ‘fan fiction’ to support Miles’ inclusion.

Voting polls are not open yet, but AAUK has stressed that they will open to the public very soon. For more information on the finalists, visit the SWA page.
