There’s an extra incentive to pick up a copy of Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II on Gamecube for Sonic fans. By playing the game, you can unlock a special Tails-style Chao which you can transfer to your GBA and import back into Sonic Adventure 2 Battle.
Sonic Team head Yuji Naka revealed the existence of the bonus in an interview with Gamespot, where he also talked about Sonic Mega Collection. And to think he only brought it up because he was asked a simple question: have there been any enhancements to the Episode I side of the game (which is effectively a port of the Dreamcast original)?
There haven’t been any major changes, although [for the GameCube version] you’ll find a special Chao [which is a virtual life creature from Sonic Adventure] to import into your Game Boy Advance’s Tiny Chao Garden. It’s Tails’ Chao.
He later confirmed that users can upload the special Chao into Sonic Adventure 2 Battle using the GBA – Gamecube link cable, as well as save it permanently into copies of Sonic Advance on GBA.
