Sonic Adventure DX Ported to PC

Many people have come to us on this, Mj2 and Very Crazy Penguin, but the first place for the news, as with many things TSS-wise, was reported on the Sonic Stadium Message Board.

Sonic Adventure DX, a recent port of the original Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast, looks set to branch out on the PC as well as Nintendo GameCube. Here are some screens, courtest of GameOnline, a japanese gaming website:

All the features from the GameCube version will be present, such as the Game Gear titles, and it being a PC title will probably be much cheaper than the GC outing, with early screens already showing graphics about 10 times better than the Nintendo ‘Cube effort. Looks like Sonic Team are trying this time. *shot*

As always, we will keep a close eye on it, and a new game section will open up soon.

SatAM 10th Anniversary

Today is the 10th Anniversary of SatAM, some recognize it as the best of the Sonic cartoons and to celebrate this day, Ronic Warihog sent me the below email.

Hello. My name is Ronic Warihog, and I have some news for you on a special day for the Sonic Community.

As some of you may know, today is the 10th Anniversary of the debut of ABC’s ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ SatAM animated series. It is the show that forever changed the perception of the Sonic world, and while the games were primarily for SEGA fans, the SatAM helped to bring Sonic into mainstream society. It also changed the path of the comics to one of respectability, and became one of the most powerful animated series of all time.

I would like to extend my personal thanks to all 182 individuals who worked on the SatAM, and all of those who have supported the show, past and present. Without the support, the SatAM would probably have been forgotten long ago.

Let’s hope, come March next year, when we cover SAGE 2004 Season 1, that Perfect Chaos 0 (the guy supposedly taking over the reigns from Luckett X) will do a better job with time keeping. =/

More Sonic in Billy Hatcher details

A while back The Sonic Stadium was the first to announce Sonic’s appearance in Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg (oh, you know it), and there were some naysayers.

A day or so ago, we found Sonic Team’s updated Japanese website with more official details and screenshots of Sonic popping up as a hatchable animal.

Most recently, IGN managed to contact SEGA about whether it was all real or just a fake stunt (slow mo’s… :P), SEGA came back with a press statement confirming the incident, and some concret details about the hedgehog’s whereabouts…

Regarding Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg: Sonic the Hedgehog can be unlocked and used, considering the user has collected enough coins, in Dino Mountain 3 stage. Sonic is the most powerful egg animal to appear in Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. Once activated, he is capable of quickly defeating all nearby enemies. He also bounces off walls to change directions and attack new groups of enemies. Once found, users can activate him by pressing the Y button.

No doubt TSS will be tracking the progress of this game.

SONIC ADVANCE 3!

Sonic Guy, long standing member of the Sonic Stadium Message Boards, brought us to some interesting news that THQ has revealed the arrival of the third instalment of Sonic Advance. Delving deeper, we found this statement from an unknown source:

“THQ announces a copublishing agreement with Sega Europe for five upcoming GBA games, including the previously unannounced games Sonic Advance 3 and Shining Force.

THQ has today announced that it has entered into a Game Boy Advance copublishing agreement with Sega Europe. The deal will see THQ publishing a number of Sega GBA games in Europe, Australia, and other international territories starting this winter. The games confirmed for inclusion in the arrangement to date include the following:

Shining Force
Shining Soul II
Sonic Advance 3
– BOIT. See? 😛
Sonic Battle
Sonic Pinball Party

“Our two Sonic-branded releases, Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2, enjoyed sales of more than one million units at retail in North America according to NPD TRSTS,” said Tim Walsh, senior vice president of international publishing, THQ. “We are delighted that our relationship with Sega has expanded to our international territories.”

“We are looking forward to working together with THQ for the release of these quality games,” added Mike Sherlock, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Sega Europe. “Using THQ’s unparalleled know-how with the GBA platform will help us to reach our long-term goals in the shortest amount of time. This partnership not only helps us realize our commitment to expand our overseas presence, but also gives us the opportunity to further strengthen the Sega brand name in the international marketplace.”

While this is all freakishly good news, it’s odd seeing THQ announce these titles for Europe, whereas Infogrames has been doing the distribution in Europe for some time now. We all knew SEGA Europe was to become its own entity and thus detach from Infogrames, but then why go to THQ for publishing when they can do it themselves? It boggles the mind. o_O

And the fact that THQ has actually announced these titles on SEGA’s behalf seems strange too. Still, the announcements are all concrete enough, so not only do we get a new handheld Sonic experience on your Game Boy, we’ll also be getting either a continuation or a port from one of the best RPG series created – SHINING FORCE. Rumours of a port of the BEST RPG in existence, Shining Force II (no question – NO, don’t talk! No question about it!) heading for the Game Boy Advance may be realised with this announcement.

SAGE Begins Tomorrow!

Those of you that don’t know, SAGE is the Sonic Amateur Games Exposition.

It’s a show that has a bunch of Fan Game developers (who make Sonic the Hedgehog and other related fan games, from programs such as The Games Factory and MultiMedia Fusion) come together and show their works to the Online Sonic Community. It’s an ONLINE event, unlike professional Video Game expos like E3 that take place on Real Life locations.

SAGE 2003 begins tomorrow – September the 9th.
And best of all, The Sonic Stadium is once again covering the event!

TSS went on record as the first site to officially cover the original SAGE event back in 2000/2001, but stopped covering the last few because of the general audience that SAGE was now aiming for. TSS will be there covering the event so that you guys can become interested in it once more, and Shadow Team’s presence there will certainly add to that as well.

Make sure there’s only ONE place you go for SAGE coverage, and that’s The Sonic Stadium! The SAGE website is below, and will be found in related media. All SAGE reports from hereon in will be exclusive to TSS!

Benji has sent me this information, Sega of Japan has a new Billy Hatcher movie, head to Sega of Japan’s Billy Hatcher page. Below is from Benji…

Sonic is in the game. I’m not sure what his role is but by the poses it looks like they’ve been competing so I’m assuming he’s playable in multiplayer mode. Since they only show 1 second of Sonic in the vid, I took the time to take the screen shot and put it up on the net. View it here…

As we reported in our earlier story, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg will allow you to unlock classic games for your Game Boy Advance, including NiGHTS into Dreams, Puyo Pop, and Chu Chu Rocket. After a sharp eyes reader questioned if these would be the same versions that are downloadable via Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II, we have indeed confirmed that are the same versions found in that release. SAGE 2003 Registration

Yes, SAGE (Sonic Amateur Games Expo) is coming up fast once again, and entries are being accepted by Perfect Chaos Zero until the 24th August!

For those that do not yet know what SAGE is, we can’t really blame you. SAGE is a showcase of everyone’s Fan Games, much like what E3 does for professional video games. It pops up twice a year, and the first opening in 2000/2001 caused a huge reaction within the Online Sonic Community. Thank Blaze Hedgehog for that.

But as time went on, interest for the event waned, as the event slowly became more and more the property of popular site Sonic Fan Games HQ. The last Sonic Amateur Game Expos have been alright, but didn’t really catch mainstream like it used to – only people who visited SFGHQ on a regular basis showed their items.
