Sumo Digital’s latest kart racing spinoff title, Team Sonic Racing, has burst out of the starting grid in the UK to take the top position in this week’s All Format Games Sales Chart!
In an incredible feat for both Sumo Digital and the Sonic franchise, UK boxed sales of Team Sonic Racing managed to sell more than double the launch week figures of its predecessor, 2012’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. And, according to GamesIndustry, this is actually the first time that a Sonic title has topped the chart since Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games in 2008.
It’s worth noting that the UK Games Sales Charts currently doesn’t include digital sales across console and PC – only boxed sales. So at the very least, the game’s performance here doesn’t factor in PC sales at all. It’s likely that the first week sales are therefore even more impressive than what we know today.
It’s a well-deserved result for Sumo, a studio which has been working on this title for many years. We reviewed the game and gave it a positive review; you can read it right here! Below, courtesy of GamesIndustry, is the full Top 10 All Formats Chart for the UK, for the week ending May 25.
