Tony Harnell Performing “Fly With Me” for Sonic & Tails R

Tony Harnell will be performing a song for a Sonic the Hedgehog related project once again: for Sonic & Tails R, an audio drama that’s worth the hype for Sonic fans old and new.

Earlier this week, we reported on a statement from Tony Harnell, vocalist for beloved Sonic songs such as It Doesn’t Matter and Escape from the City; it appeared that he was hinting at working on a song for the Sonic series, but it wasn’t exactly something we could safely confirm based off of the vague and informal nature of his response to the question. Now, we have received confirmation that he will in fact be performing another Sonic-themed song! While it won’t be for a new game, it will be a loving tribute to the series, made for the popular audio drama Sonic & Tails R, led by voice actress Emily Jones.

The title of the track is “Fly With Me.”

If you’re unfamiliar, we highly recommend you check this series out. Sonic & Tails R is a masterfully executed audio drama that features Sonic voice acting veterans reprising their roles, including legendary Ryan Drummond as Sonic, Mike Pollock as Dr. Eggman and Pete Capella as Silver, just to name a few! If you’re among the ranks of fans that have felt underwhelmed by the game’s story department, this series is for you.

It’s definitely geared towards Sonic Adventure fans above all else, but there’s something for fans of every era to enjoy! (Speaking as a fan who’s been here since the very beginning, hearing Drummond’s Sonic speak a line from the 90’s Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon is surreal and delightful).

Keeping up with the spirit of giving beloved talent another opportunity to perform for the Sonic series, Emily Jones confirmed to us soon after we ran our initial story that Harnell would in fact be reprising his role as a vocalist for a Sonic track for Sonic & Tails R, and that the detail about it being for a new game was something lost in translation when he responded off-the-cuff. Expressing her delight in the opportunity to collaborate with Harnell, Jones hopes that Sonic fans of all walks of life will enjoy this new piece.

One thing’s for sure, you can count us excited, too! The fact that Harnell is returning as a vocalist for a new track, even if it isn’t for a new game, is something special and worth getting hyped for. We’re hoping everyone enjoys this new song as much as we will, and want to extend the warmest thanks to Emily Jones for reaching out to clear things up.

  1. This just reminds me of how much I love Ryan Drummond as the voice of Sonic, I wish he returned as the main voice for the games too.
