Sonic Gets Stackin’ in the First Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 Content Update

For all those loving the chocolate-and-peanut-butter of puzzle games, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 gets a big content update tomorrow Jan. 14th in Japan (there is no Western confirmation at time of writing), including a bounty of Sonic content.

According to the official Japanese trailer, the game’s first content drop will feature four additional playable characters including Sonic, three new Sonic-themed item cards, 20 new avatars including several Sonic characters, and four new music tracks, including Sonic Colors Tropical Resort Act 1.

Though Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 isn’t far removed from its predecessor, this first content update appears promising. Here’s hoping other regions can get it soon!

    1. I doubt it since they want to keep their hands clean of stuff that doesn’t fit the current image of both franchises.

    2. There was a Sonic game that directly acknowledged Mean Bean Machine as a boss fight only… How long ago was 2017? 48 years ago?

      1. Again I doubt it. I really don’t see Sonic Team or Iizuka himself being interested to include semi-obscure stuff from 1993 like Mean Bean Machine. Also when it comes to the surprise appearance in Sonic Mania, that is something only individuals like Christian Whitehead seem to do since they know their stuff better than Sonic Team themselves. I don’t believe Iizuka would have come up with the same idea without Whitehead’s team.

        1. Funny enough, the director of this game was the director of the latest Mario & Sonic Tokyo Olympics game, and was in leadership roles for most of the previous ones too.

  1. I know this is probably not it but I would lol so hard if this was the “something special” Sega of Europe plans to show later today.
