We take a beak at Numskull’s latest Sonic-themed characters in some rather feathery forms!
Over the last decade, Sonic has appeared in many different vinyl and PVC figure ranges, including Kid Robot’s and Funko’s POP! figure range.
Enter TUBBZ, the cosplaying ducks, a range of collectible rubber duckies produced by Numskull (partnered with Yellow Bulldog, who also run the SEGA Shop UK), that take on the likeness of characters from an ever-increasing host of video game, movie, and pop culture franchises, including Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil…and even 90s sitcom Friends! Each TUBBZ comes complete in their own bath tub, supported by a transparent container suitable displaying the figures without die-hard collectors having to remove them from the packaging.
One of the most recent franchises to be added to TUBBZ is Sonic the Hedgehog, with the series currently consisting of the three main series protagonists (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles…or should that be Duckles?) as well as Doctor Eggman (Ductor Eggman?).
Each duck looks great, and is constructed from a high-quality PVC, with most standing around 9-10cm tall. Each is unique in not only paint work but in sculpt. From Sonic’s spines to Eggman’s trademark moustache, each item is distinct and delightfully detailed with features of their namesake; a refreshing feature amongst the multitude of vinyl figure lines that often share a generic mold. The colours of the both the PVC and paintwork is vibrant, and the thickness of the plastic gives them a very robust feel.
The design of each of the TUBBZ will undoubtedly bring a smile, but as it has been noted by several reviewers, aesthetics have somewhat taken precidence over their capacity to float – and while the ducks do float – it’s tricky to keep them upright like you would expect a rubber ducky to do so. However, most fans will probably want to keep these figures for display and as such form over functionality makes sense, and the extra weight gives these items an added element of durability, which is perfect for younger fans who wish to play with them.
We think the Sonic the Hedgehog TUBBZ are fantastic – and we hope to see more Sonic the Hedgehog characters appear in duck-form in the future!
