IDW Sonic’s Tangle & Whisper Are Coming To Sonic Forces Mobile!

Over 25 years have passed since the last time a Sonic comic character made an appearance in a Sonic game, and that was just a cameo in Sonic Spinball’s bonus stages. The streak is over. IDW Sonic’s Tangle and Whisper are coming to the mobile version of Sonic Forces.

They will be part of a 3-part unlock event that Hardlight says will last a week. They’ve arrived “just in time” to take part in Dr. Eggman’s Egg Pawn Assault 2.0, a community event where you can earn free Tangle and Whisper cards as prizes.

Now, you may recall that the duo were found in Sonic Dash’s files yesterday. Well, it’s very likely that this will still happen. It is not uncommon for non-costume characters to be added to both games. So, all indications are Hardlight will announce that soon.

But now we get to the biggest question of all. Will this mean that Tangle and Whisper will appear in a main series Sonic game? Well, no one knows. Even Ian Flynn said on Twitter that he has no idea if this “opens the doors to anything else”. So, we’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. The cameo’s in Sonic Spinball were from the Satam Cartoon not the comics. the Archie comic was based off the cartoon.

    1. well, taking into account that archie comics launched an edition advertising, we can consider that it is based on the universe of archie comics (my english is not very good)

  2. I really want the Freedom Fighters to return. A whole generation of Sonic fans grew up with those characters.

    1. I am totally 100% agree with you! After all, the fate has determined Sonic Forces video game and also Sonic Dash, as the new home for the Sonic characters who don’t have a home anymore. Indeed, these two video games are not canon, but they are more popular even than canon video games.

    2. I am completely 100% agree with you! After all, The fate has determined Sonic Forces mobile video game and also Sonic Dash, as the new home for the Sonic characters who don’t have a home anymore. Indeed, these two video games are not canon, but they are more popular even than canon video games. And I do care about the homeless Sonic characters very much.

    3. I am fully 100% agree with you. After all, fate has determined Sonic Forces Speed Battle and also Sonic Dash, as the new home for the Sonic characters who don’t have a home anymore. Indeed, these two video games are not canon, but they are more popular even than canon video games.

  3. Can’t wait to see what the fangame community does with these! New playables for Sonic World, perhaps?

  4. im glad because these OCs are actually good and i would love to see them added to Sonic’s canon.
2020 is the year when anything can happen.

  5. “Over 25 years have passed since the last time a Sonic comic character made an appearance in a Sonic game”

Erm no, there was Sonic Heroes released in 2003. Team Chaotix were from the Sonic comics.

    1. Team Chaotix weren’t from the Comics. Vector was from the original Sonic bible, and Espio and Charmy appeared in Knuckles Chaotix (which was from 1995, also 25 years ago)

      1. To be fair Charmy was originally from that ’92 Sonic manga before appearing in KC. But otherwise yeah, Team Chaotix are from the games.

  6. I mean, if you count the SatAM characters as “comic characters” then arguably Scratch, Grounder, and AoStH Robotnik were the last appearance of comic characters in a video game, appearing in Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine just a few days after Sonic Spinball was released.

I however would argue all these characters are TV characters and that this is the first time a comic original character has appeared in an official video game.

    1. Don’t worry. The fate has determined Sonic Forces video game and also Sonic Dash, as the new home for the Sonic characters who don’t have a home anymore. Indeed, these two video games are not canon, but they are more popular even than canon video games. And I do care about the homeless Sonic characters very much.

  7. And I thought Longclaw’s appearance in Speed Battle was surprising, this is a nice surprise though as I like Tangle.
