SEGA America’s Sonic 2020 Panel Has Been Indefinitely Delayed

Some sad news for all of us still holed up in our houses with nowhere to go – SEGA has just announced that its Sonic the Hedgehog panel, originally planned for SXSW, has been indefinitely delayed.

The Sonic brand team was due to present its annual Sonic-themed panel at SXSW in March, but the convention was cancelled in response to the dangerous outbreak of coronavirus. At the time of its cancellation, SEGA said that it would be re-packaging its planned announcements and sharing them in ‘a new format’ in April.

This now no longer seems to be the case. In an announcement on the Sonic brand’s Twitter channel, the event and any associated unveilings will be held back. A new date has not been mentioned, meaning that we could be waiting for some time.

“We know delays are way past not cool. But with the world in its current state, and to keep our teams safe, we need to wait to show you our SXSW content until things have settled,” reads the tweet.

So, what now? Well, at least we have Sonic Channel Japan’s livestream to look forward to (don’t get your hopes up for anything major being revealed there though). When a new date is announced and SEGA is ready to move on things, we’ll let you know ASAP.
