Turn it Up and Get Down to Stardust Speedway Act 1 from Sonic Mania

In the preorder trailer that debuted two months ago, we caught a glimpse of another returning Zone to Sonic Mania in the familiar form of Stardust Speedway. The hallmark stage from Sonic CD where the Blue Blur finally confronts Metal Sonic became a fan-favourite for its differing yet memorable theme tunes between time zones and regional releases, courtesy of Naofumi Hataya and Spencer Nilsen.

Now we have another hot take on its leitmotifs in the form of Mania‘s own Stardust Speedway Act 1, arranged by Tee Lopes, and… look, I could comment on how much I love its calmer and more ambient groove like it’s Past with more “oomph” but you should really listen to it for yourself. The closest thing I can liken this remix to is “magic.”

Relax to the mellow funks of the past as Sonic and friends return to Little Planet’s firefly-lit marble cityscape. But things aren’t so simple as fauna has grown rather lush.

After over a year since its unveiling, only two weeks remain to Sonic Mania‘s launch.

  1. I mean, this track is still pretty awesome, but I always preferred Stardust Speedway’s Present form over it’s Past one. I really hope for Act 2 they have you go through a sign post that changes the stage into it’s Present version. Plus, a Tee Lopes remix of Stardust Present would be pretty dope.

  2. Tee Lopes has to be one of the biggest assets to Sega has acquired in regards to their sound crew in the past decade. Don’t get me wrong- I still love all the work Jun, Johnny, Tomoya and everybody else has done for the games. But his work has brought back that weird flare that I’ve loved in the classic titles.

  3. Here is a transcript of the full lyrics:

    “Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…
    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…

    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…

    [Verse]
    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…
    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…

    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…

    [Chorus]
    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…
    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…

    Eh… eh… eh…
    Eh… eh…”

Jokes aside I absolutely love this, maybe a little too calm for a stage but I hope the music of Act 2 is more dynamic.

  4. Darn it Sega This stardust Speedway act 1 theme makes me in the mood for some Loving ??????
