Yes, you heard right, a retail release for Sonic Mania, at least on Switch, could actually happen if this listing over at EB Games Australia is true.
There’s no indication if this is a legit standalone retail release, or a listing for the collector’s edition. All the site shows is only a Switch listing for the game. To clarify, only a Switch release comes up when searching “Sonic Mania” in the search bar.
It is interesting that this brings back an earlier listing found by Reddit users at GameStop in Germany just prior to the Switch presentation, and that’s what raised speculation over a Switch version of the game existing in the first place.
When we have an update, we’ll be sure to let you all know!
I’d like to give HUGE thanks to Yagharak at NeoGAF for the the heads up about this.
Update (1/19/2017 9:43AM EST):
More sites have been found featuring only a Switch retail release. Such as The Game Collection (for £49.95 at that), and Play Asia. Interesting to note is that at The Game Collection, Puyo Puyo Tetris is listed for the same price on Switch, and that is officially priced at $39.99 in the US and $54.99 in Canada, though that game in NA comes with some keychains to sweeten the deal. Just something of a comparison in case it’s all true and that is the price.
I wonder what the real box cover will be like.
i really hope it will be a retail version, physical games are satisfying to own and will be yours forever.
yes, I agree.
Plus, unlike discs cartridges won’t break like china.
