It all comes together as the finale of the Shattered World Crisis is upon us!
The preview for Sonic the Hedgehog #287 has been released, and it’s make or break time for our heroes! Sonic has managed to turn super and, with the help of Chip in the Gaia Colossus, is taking Dark Gaia on for the fate of the world!
Unfortunately for Sonic, the Freedom Fighters don’t have any means to aid and the rest of the world is just waiting to see what happens, so this is going to be just all-out god powers versus god powers. But who will actually come out on the other side of the match-up? If you’ve played Sonic Unleashed, you may be well aware of the cost of winning as we hit “Panic in the Sky”: part 4.

It’s been 3000 years…Or at least it’s felt like it.
But it’s finally time for this big, amazing arc to draw to a close! Looking forward to it. 😀
I wonder if they’d release the whole thing in one big graphic novel.
Stoked for this, but more stoked for what comes after “Genesis of a Hero.” Here’s stuff I’ve noticed.
• The first (StH #256) and last (this) issues of the Unleashed adaption are both penciled by Tracy Yardley.
• “Countdown to Chaos,” which kicked off the adaption, and “Panic in the Sky,” which is the conclusion to the adaption, both have four-part connecting covers. The last of each four-part cover ended with Sonic confronting an enemy (#256’s cover features Eggman, & #287’s features Perfect Dark Gaia).
at least we know how genesis of a hero is going to look w/ Yardley’s penciling and cassata’s coloring
Love how calm Rotor is. Haha.
Jeez! Flashbacks of the 2011 New Year’s Eve, as I was about to defeat Dark Gaia come rushing back!
No better drink to witness the end of the world than Chao Cola!
R.I.P. buddy…
I’m pretty sure your joking but you do know sonic will win
I wasn’t talking about Sonic.
…….One last piece of chocolate…for the end of the road…

Why you do this to me, the feels!
But seriously that ending is as sad as its beautiful, it could only have been beaten by Sonic Battle if it had home console cutscenes like Unleashed.
I’m curious to see what really happened to Nicole. Hopefully this issue will at least give us something to go on.
Maybe this issue will clairify WHY the ending was the way it was in unleashed. I felt there was a lot IMPLIED (Mainly the fate of Chip) about the aftermath of the final boss, but no hard evidence. Just kind of left me confused the first time I beat it. Sonic running into the credits didn’t help either. At the very least, it looks to be a fantastic read.
My theory (regarding the game) is that Chip only purpose in the world was to stop Dark Gaia and/or help get the world together again, once he fulfilled that his time was up.
Finished reading it.
Awesome.
At long last, I’ve been waiting so long for this moment to come. It’s been an amazing 3 years to see this game’s wonderful story creatively integrated into the comic’s larger narrative, during a sensitive reboot time no less. I look forward to reading this with joy and excitement, and I can’t wait to see what games they might adapt next.
Agreed, although I kind of hope they at least wait until sometime after the 300th issue before doing an adaption in the main series the way they did Unleashed.
It kinda became pretty clear that their adapting Sonic Lost World next.
Hope is just one or two issues long, the Deadly Six were already featured in the Worlds Unite crossover and the story of Lost World doesn’t have a good story to begin with.

(Incoming spoilers for World’s Unite and STH #287)
The events of World’s Unite were erased by the end, so they never met the Deadly Six. And during the Shattered World Saga, Eggman commanded Wendy for extra plans to get that conch thing.
By the end of #287 (this issue), Eggman pondered on gathering the potent energy of the world (getting the Lost World vibes yet?), rather than using Dark Gaia energy, and left.
On top of that, I’m pretty sure Ian made a comment saying that he wanted to go further on developing the characters if the Deadly Six at some point. In the back of one comic, he even said that he was looking forward to developing Sonic Lost World next. If it didn’t have that great of a storyline before, Ian could probably spice it up with his own magic.
