Nintendo’s Japanese YouTube channel has just released an overview trailer of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wii U. It showcases the game’s various events, with looks at the single-player mode, the multiplayer mode, the costumes you can earn, and the amiibo features at the very end.

Another note is that the Wii U version does indeed run in 60 frames per second (you need to set the YouTube video to 720p60 or 1080p60 in the video settings to view the video in 60fps). The game does intentionally drop to 30 however during the small overworld shown in the trailer, the multiplayer mode, and as well as in “cinematic” portions (such as the opening, victory ceremonies, and when certain techniques are performed such as scoring a goal in certain parts, etc).
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wii U will be released in Japan on June 23rd, 2016, and then the day after on June 24th, 2016 in NA and EU.
Not sure if all of the content is seen in that video, as I really do not want the Wii U version to be smaller overall, leave alone less roster restrictions.
Kevin Huynh we didn’t see the Character rosters yet in a Wii U version they might have that more characters with anyone or stay the same smaller character rosters in the 3DS version?

Omg Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games the story mode hub world is in 3D first time & a amazing next generation gorgeous graphic then multiplayer mode you could pick Team Mario side or Team Sonic side is my favorite!!! Also anything is same as usual of Sports & more like the 3DS version has.
Sega, patch the game so you can play as the newcomers in every event. Then you can have my money.
Anyone else thought the part where Peach was doing those Punches on Vector was funny? can’t to see the Females to on Bowser or Eggman. That be fun…

I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that the character restriction exists in the first place or the fact that nobody at Sonic Team or Nintendo are giving a good reason why it’s there.
It’s actually kind of depressing that the fandom will probably have to put all the characters in by themselves when Wii U Homebrewing goes public (probably in a similar fashion to the model replacement process in Mario Kart and Smash) if Sonic Team doesn’t listen.
