More Sonic Boom: RoL Concept Art Discovered

Jason Norton Sonic Boom 18

The Sonic Stadium has discovered even more concept art from Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and a few pieces from Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. The images were among the portfolios of artists Oscar Ponce and Jason Norton who used to work at Big Red Button Entertainment. The latter’s artwork is especially intriguing as it reveals scrapped ideas for Eggman’s mech, a ‘battle mode tank’ and what we can assume is a golem boss battle. Check out all fifty seven of the images in our gallery below and give us your thoughts in the comments.

  1. I haven’t kept up on all of the concept art and illustrations that keep popping up, but is the of the first time we’ve seen the Wii U in-game visuals and simplified models being posted in a personal portfolio?

It felt like other stuff and maybe one of the demo-reels had the more generally polished stuff. I say this under the idea that other previous posts looked like they were from those that worked on the game before the big “exodus” of sorts. It feels like this person might’ve been through both the old team, and the scrambled-clean-up crew based on the fact they have, concept art, sculpts (even if just for the texture mapping/normal mapping), and the Wii U end product environments.

    Just a thought.

  2. Does anyone care at this point? XP i’d like to not be unpleasantly reminded of this abomination.

UPDATE: The Fine Bros have trademarked the work “Anyone” I am now being sued.

      1. The rushing didn’t hurt the game as much as the fact that the hardware wasn’t on par with the game’s engine and spec requirements.

    1. How about no. It’s undiscovered art assets which give an insight into the game development.

    2. Believe it or not, some people find this kind of stuff interesting no matter what game it involves and this article is clearly for those people.

  3. The “Golem” really should have been the final boss, instead of some anti-climactic battle with Lyric.

  4. I really wish we got to learn more about those ancients… There was great potential for an awesome plot involving ancients and their technology, lore and knowledge but nope. Instead we got “Oh, look, ancient carvings depicting us!” *no more is said about that* *statues of echidna-like people everywhere* *no relevance to anything* How had Lyric met Sonic before again? Oh yeah, we might never know.

  5. Always neat to look at stuff like this. I’m curious though: where does it come from? Is there someone from BRB exposing this stuff?
