As reported earlier, in Japan a Sonic fan event called the Sonic Appreciation Festival just took place and recently wrapped up. Special guests included series producer Takashi Iizuka, character artist and designer Yuji Uekawa, and composers Jun Senoue and Tomoya Ohtani. In the event, several announcements were made, while not of a new game, were still notable.
First and possibly most notable is the announcement of an upcoming concert called the Sonic Adventure Music Festival, which will be held on April 2nd, 2016 at the Future Seven venue in Japan.
Another announcement was that Jun Senoue is working on a new album called “The Works II”. This will be released on February 24th, 2016 in Japan.
A third announcement was that Sega will be holding another concert called the Symphony Sega Concert, which will be held on July 17th, 2016 in Japan also.
Finally on a minor note, it’s been reconfirmed that Sticks and the Deadly Six will be featured in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which is also reconfirmed to launch on 3DS again on February 18th, 2016 in Japan. The Arcade version was also shown off but no info has surfaced, if anything new was shared of that version in particular. And once again there was no word of the Wii U version.
TSSZ has rounded up lots of pictures from the event right here.
I wish to thank SSF1991 aka Donnie at TSSZ, Sonic News Channel and BlueParadox on twitter, and Woun on our own forum for rounding up and delivering the announcement on their respective sites.
Waiting for disappointed Sonic fans who were expecting a game announcement that pertains to the SONIC ADVENTURE Music Experience, arriving in 3….2….
Wow. Didn’t see THAT joke like 5 times in one day today. 🙂
Will Sticks and the Deadly Six be playable characters? Perhaps the Wii U version is currently being developed.
I think we won’t hear about the 25th anniversary game until E3 which is 169 days away and the game will come out around Chrismas 2016. That’s my prediction anyway 🙂
Pretty cool! This Sonic Adventure Concert sounds like a big deal though I wonder if it will be a conventional rock concert or if it will be orchestral to give it a little twist.
I for one would love an orchestrated version of Open Your Heart and Live and Learn to make up for SA1 and SA2 not having a cool orchestrated remix of the theme song for the final boss like the 2007-2010 games. But rock would be good too.
I don’t really think they needed one though I love that Perfect Chaos orchestral theme in the second stage of the boss fight, is not the main theme but it really captures the danger of the moment and the epic scale of Chaos power, I don’t love the over-reliance of orchestral music in Sonic games nowdays but I would still appreciate it being used in critical/dramatic moments like that one.

Oh yeah, the songs they used were good, no denying that. But, like you said, it would be great style for a final-boss-type situation, and also a good idea for a remix in general. Hence I would like to hear it, though its by no means a requirement for the concert to be good.
Hmmm…maybe not orchestrated, but definitely a new take on the songs. Maybe get Ohtami to bring out his Lost World jazz band and do his take on some songs or have Crush 40 come out with acoustic versions with guitars, bass violins and grand pianos.
Wow, sounds like some interesting events are coming up. Well, at least on the music end, anyway. Sonic music is almost always worth checking out, so these concerts should be fun. Also, as a big Sticks fan, I am always game for more Sticks appreciation. 🙂
With all these nods to the Adventure games, it makes me curious as to what SEGA is planning here. A concert? I would go if it were close by, but……snap!
Woah woah woah. A Sonic… Appreciation event?
So… how many attended? 5? 6? Possibly 8?
I jest. This is all wonderful news. 🙂 I’m glad to see that at least something is happening in relation to the series. I can just feel the new game announcement getting closer and closer.
