No links have worked so far and it seems like it could either be a soft launch starting in Canada again, or the game simply isn’t quite available yet. What do you guys think? Are you excited for a new spin on Sonic Dash or does the thought of yet another Boom game repulse you? Let us know in the comments section. Personally, I’m cool with this. I think Sonic Boom works better for mobile than for console.

  1. I’m cool with this but obviously some people won’t be cool with it because RoL is stuck in their minds.

    1. It’s like that’s the only game that ever came out to them or something. Yeah some of the games aren’t that good so far, but could we at least try to judge the future games based on their own merits instead of judging them based on their predecessors? It’s like when people tried to judge Sonic games based off of their experience with Sonic 2006 instead of the positives and negatives of the games themselves. If anything this will probably just be a harmless upgrade of the Sonic Dash experience, it’s not like any plot gets put into these kinds of mobile games. Plus, a mobile Sonic Boom game is the least “damaging” thing to the franchise, so the Sonic Team purists can just take a breather and save the shouting for another day of arguing with each other.

      1. I’m with you. It seems like as far as some people are concerned, everything relating to Boom is actually a clone of Rise of Lyric. If not amazing, people will probably just forget about this title and Fire and Ice too. You know how it is with handheld Sonic games.

        1. I don’t hate these because I think they’re all going to be terrible. I hate them because I know they’re all going to be barely mediocre. It’s boring and I hate what they’re doing with this series. Again.

          1. Well, ok, but I don’t think this game is big or offensive enough to warrant a lot of hate in the first place.

      2. Exactly. The fanbase is completely ripping everything with the title, “Sonic Boom” to shreds before even giving it a chance because of Rise of Lyric. Heck, some fans haven’t even looked at or played the game, but because reviewers universally pan Rise of Lyric, they take that as a sign to shun Boom as a whole.

Even MODERN Sonic is getting hate because all everyone thinks is, “If it ends up like Sonic Boom, SEGA’s dead. And it will.”

        1. Reading what one of my friends is saying about this, apparently the first Dash was actually in a worse state than this game when it came out. The PC version didn’t allow for jumping or spindashing, for crying out loud– for those unfamiliar with Dash, those are required functions to get anywhere in that game. The graphics fluctuated significantly between playthroughs on one phone, let alone different phones. At least with Boom Dash the graphics are consistent and the basic functions work.

So really, there’s no need to hate.

          1. From the gameplay I’ve seen, this doesn’t seem at all broken. It seems like the first Sonic Dash, but with some differences. Of course, though, this hasn’t stopped me from seeing…

“WTF?! The graphics look like complete SHIT!”

“That’s it! I officially give up on Sonic forever!”

“Great, another reason for Sonic to just die…”

And in all caps, “NOOOOO!!! I FREAKING HATE SONIC BOOM! IT’S TAKING OVER THE SERIES! SONIC IS JUST FREAKING DONE!! NO PS4 GAME!”

All of these are exact quotes. ._. I think the game is going to be perfectly fine like the other mobile games, but because it has Sonic Boom in the title, it’s going to do very poorly.

          2. Eh, well, keep in mind that mobile gamers tend to be casuals who don’t keep up with this type of stuff. They’re more apt to think “Hey cool, they made another Dash! I love Dash!”, and download the game rather than look at all the ridiculous comments.

I mean, they frickin’ loved Farmville in its heyday, and that’s basically the gaming equivalent of soulless, manipulative capitalism. This here is just… inoffensive… Not important, not big, just… there. So people will probably just download it.

          3. This is… true. In fact, Sonic Dash 2 may do really well thanks to casual mobile gaming and especially kids. I feel so stupid to forget that.

          4. Don’t worry, the haters just tend to get to people sometimes. You’re not stupid.

  2. Sonic dash was a cool game, Im really want to download this if i’ll have the chance

  3. Well, not sure if this is allowed here, but I managed to rip it from a friend in Canada’s phone and I’ve uploaded it and the app data to my Google Drive. It’s a free app now and will be once it launches internationally anyways. But, here’s the download link for anyone interested.

App installation instructions are included in the Readme. Enjoy! This is only the Android version by the way.

  4. Even tho RoL was awful, it makes sense to somewhat continue Boom on with mobile an 3ds, since they’re probably catering to the kids who watch and like the tv show, so I see no problem with this

    1. I’m hoping the only reason we haven’t heard of a new game for Wii U, is because they’re working very hard on making a much more promising title for Wii U. I honestly liked Rise Of Lyric a lot more than Shattered Crystal. Hopefully Fire and Ice won’t be bad.

  5. Notice how they don’t mention the other Sonic Boom games…

Either way, the game looks interesting and, unless Fire and Ice turns out to be amazing, it will be the best Sonic Boom game. Wonder if sprites are going to be the Boom equivalent of Wisps or Flickies.

  6. i’m totally downloading this when its released! 😀
i was getting bored of beating Zazz and Eggman on the normal Dash..

    1. Same here, I’m having fun, until the boss fights come up, they’re just too long, easy, and boring. I mostly play the game to keep collecting rings to complete the character upgrades, so having those forced upon boss fights just kills the mood.

    1. Well, the first Sonic Dash’s graphics & presentation at first were downright awful. Looked like an early Nintendo DS game. As time progresses, it got much prettier.
Also, don’t forget, this is most likely a soft launch.

    2. Still looks a lot better than Shattered Crystal, that game was just terrible looking, with it’s low polygon models, terrible texture resolution, and a horrible and flickery shader. I don’t get why people trashed Rise of Lyric’s graphics, because it’s graphics weren’t bad.

      1. The lighting wasn’t bad in some areas of Rise of Lyric. The actual polygons were pretty ugly, but some areas had good enough lighting to cover up the flaws. Other areas, unfortunately, had lighting that only accentuated the flaws. Which I suppose just makes a really good case that how areas are lighted is crucial to if a video game looks good or not.

  7. Was not expecting this.
But when it comes to Sega, what can you expect?

  8. Hopefully, this one actually works on my tablet.

(And I’m not talking about Runners in that regard. The first Dash kept crashing at the worst moments with no rhyme or reason.)

  9. Well, I for one think this is a good thing since younger kids are more interested in mobile gaming and since that’s Sega’s target audience here, this could make them some dough at least.

  10. I’m actually pretty glad they’re making this. It DOES feel kind of shaky how Sonic Boom literally hijacked the name of “Sonic Dash”, but the gameplay itself sounds more creative and less stale than before.. I love team mechanics in Sonic games, and I love the change in scenery for this. I was getting really bored with Sonic Dash quick because there isn’t much variety at all. This, however, is more variety than I even had in mind.

I guess this confirmed that whole “Sonic Boom mobile” rumor we had a while back. Woo. 😀

    1. Well, because the kids are loving Sonic Boom, so simply they’ll put Sonic Boom on because right now, to the younger audience, it’s bigger of a brand to them.

  11. Well. They are REALLY trying to make Sonic Boom become a thing. I hope there is an excellent Sonic Boom game about to be announced, or it won’t.

  12. Now if only we could get a great Sonic Boom platformer on Wii U, that would be great.

  13. I don’t hate Sonic Boom as much as others. I like it for what it is: a spin-off series. I would actually prefer Boom to be a handeheld/mobile/cartoon series. Leave the console games to the main franchise. The only thing I don’t understand is why both franchises are heading in the same comedy-filled direction. Unless the next modern Sonic game actually gets serious with its plot, the two franchises are only differentiated by design of characters. If the main franchise returns to a serious tone and Boom continues with the comedy route, there would actually be a reason for Boom to exist in the first place.

    1. I’d hope the next main Sonic game is more serious… I think it’s a pretty good idea to leave the comedy to Sonic Boom while keeping Modern Sonic more suited for story-telling. I want both sides of the Sonic coin to grow. This IS what they wanted with Sonic Boom, right?

    2. The key difference between SB and Sonic Natural doesn’t just lie in their aesthetics, but in their tone, pacing and characterization. Despite heading in the direction of light hearted comedy, the main Sonic series still has a simple premise, an overall plot (per game), light character development, high stakes action and adventure, with a leaning towards the 10-13 yr old demographic. The comedy itself uses some 4th wall humor that only older kids will get.

Despite having designs that would work towards a more mature series, everything about Sonic Boom is strictly design-by-committee, from the look to the sounds, to appeal to young children. The only appeal the series has for adults is some of the dialogue from the writers and the best lines always tend to be from Eggman.

That being said, having a serious tone doesn’t exactly mean an upgrade in quality. On the contrary, as evidenced by the games before Sonic Unleashed and during the Ken Penders era of the Archie Comic, Sonic does NOT excel with a serious tone. It winds up being very awkward, immature and alienating towards regular folks – ya know like an angsty teenager.

      1. I think what he means, from what I gather, is more of a tone akin to Sonic Unleashed, or Sonic Adventure… Where it really does feel like a good, big story, but it still has light-hearted moments and development along the way. I’m not sure if I’m actually getting this right, though. I do, however, agree that we really shouldn’t have Modern Sonic go as serious as Ken Penders writing or Sonic ’06.

        1. That’s exactly what I meant. I’m not talking about bringing guns back Shadow The Hedgehog style. I just meant to focus more on story telling, with the Adventure games being a prime example. Regardless how anybody feels about the game, I’d say there’s little arguement as to those two games having two of the best stories in the video games. Unleashed had a good story, with the Werehog not being a completely horrible idea. It was just poorly executed gameplay-wise so people criticized it.

  14. OH LOOK…it’s f@$king nothing.

No, hold up…it’s another freemium mobile game, designed to distract you from your woefully mundane existence and rob your wallets (or your parents wallets) of all their hard earned cash for dumb stuff like power ups, costumes and NO ADVERTISEMENTS.

    It’s less than f@$king nothing.

Oh and in case none of you didn’t read the TSS Twitter, Sonic Mach 2 was confirmed to be simply the placeholder for SB: Fire and Ice. So, either I was completely wrong about the state of the SB franchise or SEGA is trying to squeeze every drop of milk this cash cow has before putting it out to pasture.

  15. Sonic Boom should be mobile and have the TV show, and Moderrn Sonic should be on computers and consoles. I believe that this would make the fans and newcomers really happy, it would work really well because I bet Sonic Boom would be awesome on mobile games. But, Modern Sonic should be on computers and console because that’s the true Sonic and he works much better on consols and a computers than on mobile games.

    1. Oh yeah, and the TV show is a,axing and gets a lot of views, so having Sonic Boom on TV is the best idea, even maybe instead of Modern Sonic having his own, because it just works out better in that way.
