Sega will not have their own booth at E3 this year

E3-logoWell now. As was heavily speculated not long ago, Sega have confirmed to GameInformer that they will not have their own booth, but say they will be “collaborating with our various business partners for this year’s E3 show”.

Full quote below:

“Over the next months, SEGA of America will be focusing on the restructure and relocation to Southern California, and we have decided to not attend E3 with our own booth this year,” a representative told us via email. “With the majority of our bigger titles launching later in 2015/2016, particularly those from our AAA studios Relic Entertainment, Sports Interactive and Creative Assembly, we are concentrating our efforts for some of these major announcements after our relocation. Instead, we will be collaborating with our various business partners for this year’s E3 show.”

My take? I don’t recall much with Sony other than Yakuza 5, and nothing that I can recall with Microsoft. Nintendo is the only one of the three I can see them working with, especially if Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games happens or not. Hell even GameInformer speculates about “Sonic hanging with Nintendo”. I mean we already have his amiibo outfit in Mario Kart 8 to start the year, so who knows.

  1. Perhaps they will be there at E3 in 2016. It’ll be Sonic’s 25th anniversary. Let’s hope it’s awesome like his 20th anniversary.

    1. I’d be shocked if they aren’t there next year for that reason. Still, is this the first time they’ve not had their own booth? Don’t remember.

  2. This is certainly sad news, but I have faith that they will soon have things under control. It’s pretty sad, and I just know that Game Informer will be ready to report that Sonic is doomed forever, once again, but we never know. Personally, I hope that the announcements that DO come are really swell.

I’m crossing my fingers for something… just SOMETHING to be shown for Sonic on the PS4.

    1. i want Sonic on my PS4 too .
but it seems like sega has a new hobby of disappointing me time and time again actually its not really new

      1. It’s still nice to know that they’re taking their time to save up for big(ger) announcements coming later on…like Sonic coming to the PS4 or something like that.

  3. I want to say this is shocking news, but I feel that I would be lying to myself.

  4. Hopefully Sonic Team are just taking their time with the next Sonic title; no doubt it’ll be for current gen systems and for his 25th anniversary. It’ll definitely need time and effort put into it as they won’t have a repeat of Sonic ’06.

  5. Again, I know this is a Sonic site but I’m more concerned about all of SEGAs other franchises at this point. Does this mean no Hatsune Miku Project Mirai 2 DX for us westerners after all? No new Phantasy Star for us? No Virtua Fighter? No remake/sequel of old and forgotten franchises/games? No completely new game?

    1. That is the sad thing about your statement. Because SEGA has largely depended on Sonic, the west doesn’t really hear much from SEGA’s other IP and in turn, those IPs cannot receive any other support other than the domestic market and that is not enough to raise SEGA past the redline that they have. Then again, this is what happens when a Japanese company founded by Americans refuses to aid their international branches because of bullshit cultural dissonance and lack of communication.

Also, by the time PSO2 ever arrives on Western shores, everyone would have already played the game a thousand times over through Chinese servers to care.

I also fear for my favorite Fighting Game franchise, but without a good hook, VF6 could be as enticing as Tekken 7…which is to say, not as much. Man, 3D fighters are falling by the way side.

      1. Very true, although I am very interested in Tekken 7, mainly because I’m a massive fan of the franchise and it’s (supposedly) going to end the main story.

  6. Accurate transcription of what I said during the article-” OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD HOLY CRAP OH GOD NO NO NO NO OH GOD” for a couple of minutes.
