3rd set of Sega 3D Classics coming to Nintendo 3DS, including Sonic 2!

Although SEGA suggested previously that the 3D classics line for Nintendo 3DS would be closing with Thunderblade, a further three 3D Classic titles have been confirmed by SEGA to be on the horizon.

At this time, the third set in the series only contains 3 titles. One title in particular however is certainly of interest to TSS; Sonic 2! That’s right, that means 3D special stages!

The other two games are the aforementioned Streets of Rage 2 (due in July) and Gunstar Heroes (due in August). Sonic 2 will be out in September. All will be priced at MSRP $5.99/€4.99/£4.49

Are you excited for Sonic 2 or perhaps the other two games? Have you bought any of the previous games yet? Let us know!

Update: We also have screens and transparent logos for you all!

  1. “The Answer is yes and no”

Yes: What took so long to make 3D Sonic 2 for the 3DS (I have the feeling it will be the DS version) but it will be fun to play again ^o^

No: Removal of 2 Player Vs Mode and also 3D Special Stage take lots of remember the ring and avoiding the Spike bomb (“Spike Bob-omb :3”) and let not forget super sonic will easy break the game with that annoying theme and Super Sonic Power Level is OVER 9000!!!!

  2. I’m totally downloading that. I wonder how they are going to do 3D Classics Sonic 3 and Knuckles. If they are going to release both parts separately or both in one. Also, how are they gonna pull off Knuckles in Sonic 2?

  3. Will this Sonic 2 have all the benefits of the Taxman & Stealth mobile version?

    1. I’m going to say no. This is going to be like the Sonic 1 3D that is already out and even that didn’t have the extra goodies that the Retro Engine version (android/iOS version) have.

  4. Any possibility for the TSS in 3D to see the screen shots? lol Not a big fan of 3D, but may as well take a look at 3D screen shots if ever possible in the future.

  5. Hey guys………….can any of you consult any of the crew of Sonic Boom about if anything went wrong with the show?

    1. What do you mean? If anything prevented it from being a success (which nothing has, to my knowledge) or did something happen to it recently that I’m also unaware of?

  6. I’m glad to hear that they haven’t abandoned the Sega 3D Classics series. Too bad I can’t stand most of Sonic 2’s levels. Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for a S3&K3D. And they better don’t split it into two games, unless they implement Lock-on support on S&K3D, like they did with the VC version.

  7. Now we need puggsy from sega genesis and both vectorman games. Also we need knuckles chaotic, sonic jam, and sonic xtreme, but you know that’s not going to happen, Japan stop working your people to hard, slow and steady wins the race.

    1. For Sonic Jam it would be the Sonic World portion of the game and not the games as we already have umpteen million iterations of each one. Sonic Xtreme is happening, but it’s going to be unofficial as Sega is not working on it (its being handeled by the fans).

I would crap my pants if they did Ristar in 3D.

  8. My only wish is for a Vectorman 1 and 2, Phantasy Star 1 through 4 and Ristar 3D. Then my life would be (mostly) complete. Only fully if they also made a new, possibly 2.5D, Vectorman and Ristar (I mean, come on, Ristar could totally play like Klonoa and Vectorman could totally play like Metroid Other M!).

  9. Lol I don’t give one damnit about Sonic 2, I honestly find it these days to be a chore to be interested in more than usual.

Gunstar Heroes I’ve heard good things about, and seeing gameplay of it and playing through Freedom Planet which takes part inspiration from I’m looking forward to it.

Plus Streets of Rage 2 is seen by many to be the best in the series. So yeah there’s that.

    1. Actually, anyone who has ever even bothered to look up or play the previous 3D Classics would know it’s not a 3D remake. No one has ever said it is one here, either, per se. We’re just glad Sonic 2’s getting the same treatment some of SEGAs other classics have now.
