The adventure in space continues in this month’s issue of Sonic Universe!

We have a preview for Sonic Universe #60 courtesy of Den of Geek. Our journey into Black Arms territory continues this month as team Dark and the military venture deeper into the Black Comet. Rouge and Omega have been left with the Spider troupe to get to the heart of it all and stop the alien menace with whatever force necessary as they get assaulted by the enemies. It’s not all fun and games for Shadow either when his scouting leads him into the company of Eclipse the Darkling, self-proclaimed “brother” of Shadow who seems…cheerfully keen on bringing him to their side. It’s both brute force and mind games in “Shadow Fall”: Part 2.

  1. Having read the first issue…

I’m sorry, but the only way this arc can turn out to be good is if it turns out to be a deconstruction of fanfiction and Mary Sues. Eclipse The Darkling is straight out of one of those. It’s bad and highlights the problems I have with Archie’s Sonic. The characters aren’t well integrated like Mega Mans. They really stand out in a bad way.

      1. saffronrh, your right that not all fanfiction is bad, though, I’d say all mary sues are, despite no many people understanding what a mary sue actually is.

    1. I’ll take a fanfic character over black Doom’s sudden resurrection any day as long as he’s written well.

    2. I pretty much agree with this comment right here. I’d at least hope that Archie could pull off Shadow the Hedgehog’s arc better than SEGA could… but I don’t know. I am at least grateful that Rouge and Omega are more involved but… Eclipse. What the heck?

  2. I am enjoying this arc so far, and I hope it will continue to do well. It has a somewhat darker feel than other Sonic Archie comics, both in artwork and story.

  3. Wow…

I’ll just say it, if this wasn’ published by Archie an approved by SEGA this would have been slammed by the fandom for being a blantent self-insert fan-fic/fan-comic with a Gary-Stu villain, cliche big bad and a paper thin plot.

But what can you expect when they take a fail game like STH and churn out a sequel adaption for it. You can litteraly see that Ian didn’t want to do this arc.

Now someone tell me why Black Death looks like a Darkseid rip off?

  4. Falling behind on Universe… my comic shop only has the variants left over when I go by 🙁

  5. I should get this comic, heh. I enjoyed STH for what it gave and that I found it fun (although replaying the same first level ten times WAS aggravating).

Eclipse has a neat design that incorporates the Black Arms design rather well, I can’t say anything on the name since, well, Shadow isn’t a “unique” name either, but as for the “self proclaimed brother”…Well, aren’t technically all the Black Arms Shadow’s siblings, theoretically? Ehehehe. Felt like pointing that out and rambling.

Now, this could be very gary-stuish…OR, this could be a ruse. I don’t have the comic, I don’t know, but sometimes setting them up as the big bad can turn out hilarious in the end. Eh, don’t get why Eclipse is a “darkling”, unless that’s the name for the baby Black Arms. “Blackling” doesn’t have a good ring to it and could have come out racist, sadly. I hope it turns less “gary-stu” from what I can tell, but likely not. Would be funny if he really didn’t have any powers and it was just the super big bad toying with both of them though XD

Also Black Death, what the heck? I prefer Black Doom’s design, thank you…I mean come on. SCYTHE NECKLACE.
