Sega Confirms New Sonic Games for 2013!

You could have guessed this. But it’s one thing to speculate, it’s another thing to get some form of confirmation. Sega have confirmed several new Sonic game for 2013.

In the November 2012 edition of Toys ‘N’ Playthings there is an interview with Sissel Henno who happens to be the Head of Brand Licensing at Sega (Europe). The interview is mainly focused on Sonic merchandise, in it we get some insight into not only Sonic’s future as a brand, but also confirmation for several new games to be released in 2013.

When asked, “Looking to the future, how do you see your Sonic’s licensing growing over the next year?” Henno replies with…

Over the next year there will be a big focus across the toy distribution across Europe. Similarly, we will also be growing the apparel, publishing and stationary categories. We will have several new digital titles launching as well as a new boxed game, so there will be plenty of opportunities to link marketing campaigns across games and merchandise

Sega have hinted earlier in the year their intentions to push into the digital market, releases such as Sonic 4 and Sonic Jump are evidence of that. However this is the first time there has been solid evidence that a new boxed Sonic game is in production for 2013.

The interview itself gives no details on the new games. However it does show us pictures of the new Chaotix action figures, as well as new flocked mini figures. Furthermore, the interview details brand new augmented reality T-shirts based off ASRT to be released later this month in the UK.

      Sonic JUMP: Eggmen can’t JUMP HD.
      How could you forget such classic? I mean this game forged our generation in thr 50’s.

    6. Sonic Jump 4: Rising would have to come in two episodes though, with Episode 1 using levels from Jump 1, and Episode 2 using levels from Jump 2 excluding one level.

    3. The article in the image actually says that the split between male and female Sonic followers is 70/30. Which means that 70% of Sonic fans are male and 30% of Sonic fans are female. The facts say that you are wrong.

  5. That sucks for sonic collectors like me who wants to check out someone’s collection and only see digital titles

    1. I’m psychotic. I will buy a 2GB flash drive to put the games on. Then, I’ll find/make cover art and print it out just so each game has it’s own physical representative in my collection.
      But that’s usually only for games in a series. i.e. all my Sonic games (4.1, 4.2, CD, etc).

  6. Obviously there will always be new sonic games, if SEGA still want to make money.
    I am banking on a fully brand new sonic 3D game with other playable characters, I pray to God this happens.

  8. I’m very anxious to see where they take the main series of games after Generations.
    However, if we end up with Sonic 4 Episode 3 before a new boxed game, I’ll be content as well…

      Clearly the man is the only one with ambitions. (No, this isn’t hate. I just don’t know what they would do for a Heroes 2 lol)

  11. Hopefully one of the games has mostly 3D levels, I’d say 80% 3D 20% 2D or no 2D, it will be even better

      Don’t hold your breath though. It’ll happen eventually I’m sure, but until then…

      I’m betting on the final Storybook Series.

      1. Unfortunately, because you’re wrong. Sonic 06 was a failed re-boot. An unfinished try at a fresh start to the Sonic series. They wanted to recreate Sonic for the next GEN consoles. If S.A. ever rears its gorgeous head for the fans, it will be the third.

It does have a lot of consideration though because you can clearly see it through 06 that it has many similarities between it and the adventure series; many playable characters, hub worlds, a third hedgehog rival, Iblis is basically perfect chaos but with fire, especially when you find out Iblis had multiple forms/levels just like Chaos did. they both have a very simialr structure. It could have easily been called Sonic Adventure 3 if Sega wanted to name it that.

    Digital games.
    Sonic HeroesHD
    Shadow the Hedgehog HD
    Knuckles Chaotix HD
    Physical game.
    SONIC ADVENTURE 3.
    Or Sonic 06 Good Edition. I’d like either one.

    1. I would buy Sonic Heroes HD instantly. That’s one of the very few games that I still enjoy playing after years.

    2. Sonic Heroes is already on PSN so I don’t think they would re-release it again and have it twice on PSN store.

      2. It’s not on XBLA, so they could always just release it on there and PSN wouldn’t have it twice.

    4. I’d be interested in SONIC 06: good edition
      the game was actually pretty good in concept but the only reason it failed beacause it was rushed for release date

      1. Well that and the story itself was bogged down with extremely bad ideas. Like you say, the concept/premise is pretty good, but the execution of the story was terrible, from the poor intergration of humans to the atrocious love story, to the lack of any real fun or humor in the game, the story just falls flat in almost every way, save for the character arcs for Silver and Blaze. And yes, I did think that Silver had potential as a character, he just had the bad timing of being introduced in a terrible game.

        I wouldn’t mind seeing a better edition. If Ninja Gaiden 3 can get a second chance, I don’t see why this one can’t either… though if the ‘revamp rumors’ have any credibility to them, then we might be seeing a new version of this, just under a different name… and with far fewer characters.

    Everyone said “It is going to suck ass” or the classic “lol colors is such a gay name”.
    Lets just wait I mean its not like its going to be a failed reboot like So…sonic…06…Right? RIGHT?!!

  21. I wonder if there is something Sonic Heroes planned seeing as Vector is holding the walky talky that communicated with NOT!DR.EGGMAN! from the game.

  22. More mult-platform games (also available for the Wii). I’m tired of missing out on Sonic Generations, Sonic 4: Episode 2, and Sonic Free Riders.

      2. I won’t argue with this comment – Nintendo themselves are preparing to get gamers to shift to their new system in just days from now.
        Also, the Wii couldn’t handle Sonic 4: Episode II due to the technology requirements as well as what its potential size could have been.

      1. I think Ken Balough said that Sonic Adventure 3 wouldn’t happen because it would break the current Sonic formula (and yes, I know about Lizuka’s statement).

        1. That’s true. Making a Sonic Adventure 3 would not only break the awesome streak Sonic has had, but it would also be sort of astep backward for Sonic himself. If you ask me, Iizuka just said that to shut the fanboys up…

  24. Sega are not making enough cash that’s why there sticking with downloadable titles mostly now, Sonic is one of the last franchise’s they have that would at-least gain 1 or 2 Disc games a year. besides isnt the next game set for Wii U only?

  26. My hopes? An all-new 3D Sonic game with Adventure gameplay or Genesis gameplay in a 3D view, and has a new gimmick and new environments and gameplay twists to make it feel fresh. Add lots of speed and exploration at the same time, add side-quests or missions like in Super Mario 64 or Galaxy, and 2D sections would be welcome as well, but not too many. And no more Adventure titles! For the handheld version, since the Vita is equally powerful to the PS3, just make the same version on PS Vita too. For 3DS, because of technical limitations, should be different. Make it in a 3D view, but just make the levels and layout different! Also release it in retail and eShop format, because retail games on the eShop are becoming more popular, so they would make more money. As for digital games, Sonic 4 Episode 3 would be welcome, maybe a spin-off like an endless runner Sonic game (except with a goal like Rayman Jungle Run), and maybe a re-release of Sonic Heroes in HD and Knuckles Chaotix in HD. And please bring these to the Wii U, 3DS, and PS Vita, not just PS3 and Xbox 360 again!

  31. The digital Titles could be Knuckles Choatix since the figures. I can also see Sonic R, but if sega makes Segasonic ports i’ll be filled with joy.
    I hope there is a game that would go into the 4-player mode. That is something i would play to death.

    Sonic Riders is actually my favorite video game in the world.

  38. Sonic 3 Ep 3would be great – that clifhanger ending needs resolving.

    No Sonic Adventure 3 please – the SA2 re-release recently made me realise just how poor it was – hardly any speed stages and way too much dross!

    Colours for the Ps3 / 360 would be nice. In any case, a new title WITH the hedgehog engine / Generations engine will be a great game in either case….loved the speed in them!

      What we need is a 3D Sonic game that is structured like Sonic 3 and Knuckles, having Sonic, Tails and Knuckles playable. Have the new Modern style gameplay for Sonic, but Tails and Knuckles play similar to him but have their own unique moves and levels.

  39. Wouldn’t mind a Shadow the Hedgehog 2. Maybe we can finally see how Shadow earns his paycheck.

    Pro tip: Probably involves rocket launchers and motorcycles.

One more thing I found a logo for Sonic Adventure 3 on deviantART it was found by Sonic Stalker he said the there was big text saying SEGA _ 2011-13 and THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES JUNE 2013 So maybe sega has been working on sonic adventure 3 since 2011 who knows? maybe sega will reveal the truth in sonic boom/summer of sonic 2013 hold hope Sonic adventure 3 belivers

  46. I’m really hoping for a SA3, but any Sonic game will do for me. We just need to stop asking for so much and let SEGA be SEGA. Let’s just let them do their thing and enjoy the fact that they aren’t letting this brilliant character die. It’s been over 20 years… You would run out of perfect ideas too. SEGA can’t please EVERYBODY. Stop putting so much pressure on them. I want Sonic to last forever, but if he ever dies out, it’s because of the fan base, not SEGA.

    1. yyyyeaaah, considering the way SEGA mismanaged the entire company during the mid and late 90’s based around Japanese jealousy over the American-based Sega Technical Institute basically carrying the company financially at the time, I’m willing to bet that it would be more SEGA’s own fault if Sonic died out, not the fanbase.

  47. I hope the Wii U gets some exclusive Sonic titles since Sega screwed us Wii owners, by not porting Generations or Episode II to us. Better graphics still doesn’t mean a better game folks. The 3DS version of Generations graphically, looked terrible. Colors proved that the Wii could (still) produce breathtaking graphics if done right. For Wii-only owners, 2+ years is a long time without a main Sonic title.

    1. There was a reason – that involving the technology used for both games, with the Wii not being able to handle stuff like the Hedgehog Engine (which was the main drawing point for the graphics of Generations). The Wii U will most likely join the next generation consoles with whatever games come out for them, and do remember that the other consoles never got Sonic Colours.

    Sonic the Hedgehog (06) Good edition with the sonic generations/ sonic adventure playstyle
    Sonic Heroes 2
    Shadow the Hedgehog 2
    and Sonic Advance 4

  50. I’m hoping Sega gives us a real story driven game.From Colors onward we’ve gotten these simple story lines.

    1. Remember the last two times they did that for a 3D Sonic game (06 and Unleashed)? Those ended miserably for one reason or another.

      1. 06 yeah, but Unleashed…? Not really… that game was actually pretty good, and wasn’t really that story driven at all. It was almost as simple as SA1’s story, which wasn’t as crazy as SA2’s.

Please Sega I want : Sonic Adventure 3 based on Third Season of Sonic X , Sonic Advance 4 , Shadow the Hedgehog 2 , Sonic the Hedgehog 4 : Episode III , Sonic the Hedgehog 4 : Episode IV , Sonic Heroes 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) not “beta” version , but final version “alpha” with better Havok Engine physics and better Hedgehog Engine Graphics with Playstation 3 or Playstation 4 Trophies . I also think Sega should make Fourth Season of Sonic X and then Sega should make Sonic Adventure 4 based on Fourth Season of Sonic X . Come on Sega make these games please . Also come on Sega make Fourth Season of Sonic X please .

  52. I would really like to see an SA3, but apparently that makes me a bad person for saying so. It would be a downright fantabulous chance for Silver to really redeem himself.

    I’d also like to see a sequel to Chronicles, with MUCH better music, better graphics, side quests, a touch of voice acting, a longer and more involved story, and a drastic spike in difficulty. I died in the original maybe… once? And if they decide to release in exclusively on 3DS I WILL RAISE FANGIRL HELL. You have been warned.

  57. yeah I’d be happy if Sega did do SA3 (SA4 to the ones who count isaac the terrible–:06 one). Although you can always say this though that Sega does drop a bombshell in their ear, but either comes out the other ear (meaning no SA3), or gets stuck in the head. (meaning yes, but could end so bad you’d rather mess with a creeper from minecraft). If sega does do make it they should blend it SA1:adventure’s reflex (hunt for the next stage is at, competitive boss battles like the egg viper, added missions challenges for that stage, and also several selection of characters with at 7 stages for subs, and 10-12 stages for the main) ,SA2w/B: gameplay standards (be fast, and fly style Ex: City Escape and final rush, and also should get foundable upgrades like light speed shoes.[I would say ancient power, but its not that great because you don’t sit in game unless your trying get an items thats above you of course, but sometimes it can be death-dfying), and the loading speed: faster then the speed of sound style like SA2,but also focused on great graphics of course, and With the lovable thing to do the chao garden with the return back to garden feature of course! Thats what a game SA3 should be like.

  59. Honestly, I would just be glad to see a sonic game were sonic is truly being himself. I want the super fast levels, the attitude tinged hedgehog, the breathtaking feeling you get after you finish a seriously hard level, a game that takes me months to finish not just a few days. Sonic to me has seemed too kid friendly these days without enough depth in the storyline or characters. I love Sonic, and even though the games arent what they used to be, I’ll still play them and try my best to enjoy them if that makes me an annoying fangirl then so be it . I’m just tired of.people bashing on sonic.

  60. At this point, I just want that long waited ‘Big the Cat’ fishing game. If only SEGA, if only I can make it come true.
