More Sonic in Wreck-It Ralph?

Looks like the blue blur might be in for more than just a PSA cameo.

On the Wreck-It Ralph Facebook page, a new poster for the upcoming Disney movie has been unveiled. What has caught the attention of many is the addition of a certain Sonic the Hedgehog.

Rich Moore has not only confirmed Sonic’s appearance in the film, but generously showed fans a clip of the film back at Sonic Boom, where Sonic is seen giving a public service announcement not too unlike those of the old Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. However, the new poster, along with a recently released Japanese trailer for the movie (viewable after the jump!), seems to suggest that Sonic just might be playing a much bigger role in this theatrical love letter to retro gaming.

Wreck-It Ralph will premiere in North American theatres on November 2nd. Ralph is also a playable character in the upcoming Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

  1. Oh my freaking holy moly holy freaking mega uber so FREAKING HYPED!!!! I will go to cinema in Sonic T-shirt

  2. But Sonic on the poster has mouth in front. Man this looks really weird. I am happy is on side in games

  3. I love the idea behind this film. Its been kindly kept under wraps for.. well awhile. Can’t wait to see it when it hits theaters. Plus it could be a sign of things to come for a certain Blue Hedgehog.

  4. This is awesome! I wonder if all the characters on the poster will have bigger roles than originally predicted. Not entirely sure, though, since Mike said he wasn’t asked to do anything for Eggman.

I really want some clip art of that pose Sonic is in, too… It’s pretty dang awesome, even if the mouth is a bit off.

  5. well some kids love pixar films and might not know sonic yet. so this film should get kids to play the games, own the comics, sleep with their plushies and much more don’t you think?

  6. SQQUUUEEEEEEEEE Ahem…Sonic looks shiny. I kinda expected that he might have a bigger role. Making Ralph a real game character and only getting a short cameo didn’t add up, plus the director said he loved Sonic so much.
Suffice it to say, I’m seeing this while wearing my Sonic hat. Thrice.

  7. If Sonic ever has a conversation with Ralph, I think that they should throw in a mini-rant of sonic’s games being received poorly.
“Well, Ralph, being a hero isn’t exactly all it’s cracked up to be. Sure you get a lot of praise, but it only takes one screw-up to make everyone turn against you. You know, screw-ups like falling down a pit of inescapable spikes, or not jumping at the right time, or getting sent down a canyon that is almost impossible to jump. YEAH EVERYONE JUST THINKS IT’S PEACHES N’ CREAM TO DO THE SAME DARN THING OVER AND OVER! HOW ABOUT YOU RUN OFF A RAMP AT TOP SPEED WITHOUT FLINCHING OR STOPPING MID-JUMP!? HUH?! WHERE’S YOUR CRITICISM NOW, JERKS?! I DO WHAT I WANT AND SAY WHAT I WANT, AND YOU CAN’T DO NOTHIN ABOUT IT!……ok ok, im cool.”

  8. I work in a cinema in paignton and am in charge or marketing and recieving posters and as soon as this mother comes in, its getting fecking framed in my room I cant believe that Sonic is actually going to be in a film YUJI NAKA must be crying with tears of joy and as someone mentioned on here could this… if it a success (which i think will be although it faces competition from BOND & urgh TWILIGHT PT2 in NOV) could DISNEY based on reactions of a certain blue hedgehog finally say…ya know that SONIC could have a cool franchise potential.

  9. Damn, I was so set on seeing it already but if Sonic has a major part this hypes me up even more! Cannot wait to see the film!

  10. I hate to be the pessimist, but what if they totally screw up his characterization?

WAIT, this is Disney, not SEGA! I really hope that however Disney decides to write Sonic has an influence on how he is portrayed in the future, because unless SEGA pulled some strings to ensure he acted like he does in the games as of late (BREAKING NEWS: Sonic fans found unconscious in movie theaters, more at 11), Disney might give us the best interpretation… ever. I mean, not to discredit SEGA or anything, but that’s Disney’s job- storytelling- and they’re arguably the best in the business.

This is, of course, assuming his role is that big. The fact that Ralph will be playable in a SONIC GAME, however, is one hell of a supporting detail.

    1. I think SEGA have to approve what Disney write about him. It’s not just “Okay, you can use the character…”, more like “Okay, you can use the character, but it has to be in a way we see fit…”

    2. Sega isn’t as bad when it comes to storytelling either. No, not as perfect as Disney, but eh. Sure some stories came out a little too dark, or there was no story at all (Generations, for instance), but they’ve had a few gems.

I think he’ll remain in character. I have to wonder how the bloopers will be! I can just imagine Sonic trying to give the service announcement and botching it up XD

  11. we know that Robotnik does not have a speaking part and hear he is on the poster too, so i don’t want to get my hopes up that sonic will be anything more than a brief cameo.

  12. Only one more cameo, but it DOES imply a bigger role. (What’s sonic doing in that game? XD) Oh well, I already wanted to see this movie so I won’t be too disappointed if Sonic isn’t in it much more than that. halloween’s gonna hit and I’m gonna be more “OMG WRECK IT RALPH IN COUPLE DAYS” than “OMG CANDY” *shot*

But yeah, I’m a little worried about characterization. But at the same time, I’m not sure SEGA’s been characterizing him consistantly anyway… I just hope disney does it safely (however small his role may end up being). Also that sugar rush kid was in it a LOT this trailer. Wonder if she’ll be like the biggest supporting character or something. She’s cute. 🙂
On similar note, yeah, if disney/pixar was allowed to work with Sonic (it would probably have to be a large role, not just cameos like we have confirmed so far), Sega would have a huge boost to get to the popularity they’re aiming for. (Hello kitty? How about MICKEY? That’s gotta be just as big, if not bigger… [plus how many people go beyond “Hello kitty is cute”? I don’t even know if she has a personality. She’s a chibi-like cat that gets slapped on apparel and accessories and made into plush toys…] Especially if Disney used him more than in just this. If Disney wanted it, Sega might consider a contract. XD

  13. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO EXCITED

  14. Eh… I think it’s just publicity, like saying “SONIC’S IN THIS MOVIE! GO WATCH IT!”

I’m planning to see the film, but I won’t get my hopes up for too much Sonic.

    1. Yes he should. Then again Sonic should have his own movie… *Get’s giddy* It was be so awesome!!!!
Excuse me while I drool for a bit.

  15. Does anyone else notice how every single character in the poster is evil, except for Sonic. I find that hilarious.

    OR………

SONIC IS NOW A VILLAN WHAT.THE.FUDGE. XD

    1. Well if you want to be technical, Q*bert is …not really a villan, but I wouldn’t exactly consider him a hero either lol. (Technically the purple snake Coily is Q*bert’s enemy.)

  16. I hope that Sonic gets a bigger role from what we’ve seen, as Q*bert was originally just a small cameo, and now look, he’s seen to have a bigger part. Still small, but interacting a lot with a main character.

  17. Don’t get me wrong I’m more then exticed about Sonic getting such a prominent role in this, but Disney has a way of collecting golden eggs so to speak. They brouhgt Pixar,The Muppets, and now Marvel I’m just hoping they lay off Sonic.Even though truthfully If Disney brought Sega or just the Sonic franchise that would give Sonic so much more media exprosure.

  18. Im really hoping sonic gets a big role but we all cant our hopes up. We gotta remember that this is Ralphs movie not sonics.

  19. I haven’t watched the trailers. I don’t want to spoil myself. He could or could not get a bigger role. As someone else pointed out, Eggman is on there and he doesn’t have a big role at all (unless Mike was pulling our chain~).

Still, it’s much needed fan service and the like. Publicity, even if people think he’s for the movie only. I think Transformed will be one of the commercials, and that’ll set things right that he’s another franchise altogether.

  20. @ darkgomugomu reallly when did Disney get the film rights to Sonic ? I thought they only got permission to use him in the film ?So if a Sonic movie was being made Disney would produce it…I doubt it.

    1. No, Disney has the film rights for north america. That’s the main reason Sonic Underground is airing on Disney. While they have those rights, Sonic’s film rights owners vary from country to country, so an international movie release containing Sonic (without actual permission from SEGA, which they did for this movie) is impossible.

  21. I was just thinking: they should have included Sweet Mountain as a track in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed as a reference to Sugar Rush in Wreck-It Ralph.

  22. Wait…
Sonic is getting all the fame…
    AND MARIO ISN’T?
    THIS COULD MEAN SOMETHING.
    GO SONIC FOREVER!
