A new preview of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 from GDC 2012 has appeared over at Droid Gamers, and in it we learn that the mobile version of Episode 2 will contain two exclusive bonus levels.

The Android version will also come with two exclusive bonus levels that you will have to hunt down.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 contained two Acts that were different in the console version, but whether the situation is the same here or not remains to be seen. Droid Gamers also shared a full demonstration of White Park Act 1, which you can view in the above video. You can read Droid Gamers’ full hands-on preview at the below link.

      1. ^Yeah, thanks for finding a video of the full act, and I must say it looks stunning!! I’m loving the level design 😀 Way better than Episode 1.

    1. ….Why a white park? What about black parks? This is discrimination. I am offended. I will now proceed to sue you.

  1. “Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 contained two Acts that were different in the console version, but whether the situation is the same here or not remains to be seen.”
“The Android version will also come with two exclusive bonus levels that you will have to hunt down.”
“…that you will have to hunt down.”
    HUNT DOWN
You didn’t have to hunt down the 2 exclusive levels in Episode 1. They were part of the main game. “Hunt down” implies that you have to fulfill a certain set of requirements to unlock the said bonus level (like getting a certain amount of Red Rings or Chaos Emeralds).

    1. I know that. But since the other 2 levels haven’t been announced yet and the fact that some previewers can often be mistaken, I’m going to wait and see what happens. It may well be that the 2 exclusive Acts are in the other levels. If they are actual extra unlockable stages, then cool.

  2. The loop at 2:31 is beautiful. No speed-enhancing gimmicks of any kind in the area, and Sonic almost didn’t make it through, something that Episode 1 lacked.

  3. Could have done without the useless homing attack chains (as usual), but it’s pretty decent overall.

  4. From what I see so far, ep 1 problem had weird physics, from what I hear in ep 2, there’s a lot of automation. From what I see in the ep 2 vids, it looks like the physics are fixed and the automation is much less………HAuRRAY!

  5. I dont see what the guys over at TSSZ forums have an issue with. I think the level design is decent at least. And it’s the first act, so it probably improves further in. I for one think this looks great.

      1. Why is the fact that they don’t like Episode 2 so far such a big deal to you? Just because people don’t like it doesn’t mean they hate every fucking Sonic game on the planet. I, for one, found Episode 1 disappointing and certainly not worth the extreme hype it was given. Episode 2’s level design, form what I’ve seen so far, doesn’t seem to add much to the previous game, and therefore it doesn’t interest me in the slightest.

        BUT WAIT, HERE’S MORE:

I liked Sonic Generations, I actually thought Classic (and Modern’s!) levels were fun to play with, and I think that they finally mastered the 3D formula of Sonic, meanwhile emulating 2D Sonic in the best way they can.

The reason why I don’t like the Episodic series is because Dimps (again, this is my opinion…) make poor level design choices and sticks with boring homing attack, spring, and boost pad chains that occur throughout the majority of the gameplay. Sonic Generation’s classic Sonic levels reduced this by a LOT, making platforming and timing actually rewarding to the player, rather than just telling the player to hold right.

See, here, I actually managed to critique a Sonic game, meanwhile critiquing a different game in the same series. Isn’t it mind-blowing how there are actually some fans out there that hate one thing, but don’t hate everything else? Quit making childish excuses/assumptions just to defend one little game that you happen to like.

And this also applies to every other person on here, or any community site for that matter, who thinks all Sonic fans either hate or love EVERYTHING. Get a grip on yourselves.

  6. This gameplay looked actually pretty good, I liked the idea of the rolling attack through the snow… and Snowy =p
But that loop at around 2:32 caught my attention… he kinda just walked the loop like sonic did in ep1.

  7. For those complaining about too many boosters in the Dimps games, watch that video. For the entire 31/2 minute level shown, I counted two. TWO booster pads. That’s it.

    1. It’s not just the boost pads that bother some. The game just simply looks dull to me, and not just because of the boost pads. It lacks challenge, making the player run, run, and run. Hardly any real platforming sections are seen here. This is why I don’t favour Dimp’s games.

Even if they remove boost pads all together, it will just be Episode 1 without boost pads.

(This is my personal opinion, so please don’t chew me up for saying this, people.)

  8. You probably can avoid the boost pads anyway by using the spindash and Tails flying.

  9. If you are still….at this point, a with sound kind of shroud of ignorance in your brain, STILL complain about the following:
the homing attack, WHICH IS OPTIONAL BTW, use….you need to freakin go away, FOREVER.
complaining about the momentum, from what im seeing it looks good, go away.
    Physics …..fuck em
    the damn snowboard…..REALLY?
my god have mercy on Sega/Dimps. if they can just do sonic 4 ep 2. they will finally close their damn mouths.

    1. “the homing attack, WHICH IS OPTIONAL BTW, use….you need to freakin go away, FOREVER.”

Take a good look at 0:51. There’s a death pit right below that homing chain. How do you expect to jump over that?

“complaining about the momentum, from what im seeing it looks good, go away.”

      Who’s complaining about “momentum”?

      “Physics …..fuck em”

      I lol’d. Hard.

      “the damn snowboard…..REALLY?”

      Who’s complaining about the snowboard?

  10. Look at the video just after 2 minutes
it reminds me of one of the little gimmicks we had in Sonic Colours… DRILL!
    😀

  11. They can’t make this easy, can they? Oh well. The mobile levels probably aren’t worth it, anyway.

  12. ^ That is to say, those bonus levels definitely aren’t worth getting an iPod or an Android for.
