Sonic’s Betrayed in Sonic #220, Now On Newstands (Preview Inside)

This is a story that’s going to draw a lot of applause and skepticism, as it’s easily one of the most profound change Ian Flynn has introduced since he was brought on the book. Sonic is betrayed by a character who has his purpose and intentions completely changed from the day he was brought onto the book. I’m not sure what to make of it at the moment, and I personally intend to ride this one out and see where it goes before judging the move. This could very well be the beginning of some very nice stories, or could mean the sloppy permanent butchery of a character I appear to like more then many others.

Below is the preview and the solicit.

  1. Forgot I got this today… still in the car I think :O

    It’s St. John, he’s up to something unbeknownst to Sonic that was probably set up by the king.. that’s my guess

  2. I love the back-up story. Jamal Peppers is an excellent artist who can draw some interesting expressions and paired up with the excellent coloring of Ray Dillon makes Eggman in scrubs all hawtness.

    Robotnik also takes off his gloves. That’s nudity SEGA, and I’m telling the CMAA that you are in violation of the Comics Code Authority in a children’s comic.

  3. I feel the internet’s broken me. I looked at the cover and rain isn’t the first thing I thought that liquid on Sonic’s face was.

  4. I find it hilarious that my family has awful timing in me getting these comics. We don’t have a comic book store in our town, so we have to go to another town to get them there. We just went yesterday, and now the comic’s up today. Now I’m gonna have to ask my Dad to go get them after he gets off work! XD

    Aaand enough of my blabbering nobody cares about. Back to your regularly scheduled programs….

  5. *Spoilers*

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Disappointed Naugus is back… wasn’t that the whole point of Super Sonic Special #15 10 years ago?
  6. You know Inferno, you could just get a subscription. It’s cheaper and you don’t have to get out.
    Also, this is the announcement that the comics are on newstands. Borders and Barnes and Nobles usually carries them.
  7. Anyone see the Sonic : GENESIS ad ? Archie are doing something for the 20th too 🙂
  8. I love Jamal Peppers art the best! They look just like the characters should! Nice facial expressions, movements and character designing! Tracy Yardley! is a close 2nd
    I would love if Jamal continues as the artist, his is like the Sonic X art only mixed with the games style and look… well cool! Idk how to explain it XD
  9. So anyone think Geoffrey’s not really the traitor? It could be Mina who is the traitor; she could turn the mobians against NICOLE with her music, then without NICOLE, they would have no defense. Then again, Mina could be right and NICOLE could be the traitor, if NICOLE betrayed them, all would be lost. I mean if Geoffrey is the true traitor, wouldn’t Mogul have just told Silver it was him? He obviously knows.
  10. @axl-fox OH MY GAWD, I THOT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO THOT THAT! LMAO XD Geez sick minds think alike I guess @_@
  11. Wait. Silver said “one of the Freedom Fighters” would be the traitor. Am I wrong, or are Geoffrey, Mina or Nicole Freedom Fighters?
    Oh well, I’m sure the Silver arc will clear things up a little. I can’t wait. Silver is awesome. 🙂
  12. We finally see what came of Lien-Da. And look, animals have toes in the comics. Get it, SEGA? And if Eggman has no fingernails, then why does Sonic need them in Unleashed? LOL
    I’m still waiting to see when it’ll be revealed that it was Dimitri who Sonic found in Eggman’s base a few issues ago. If us fans clearly remember what happened to him, so we know it was him, then what’s taking Ian so long to let us know what’s been of him? Maybe he’s preparing an interesting return for him in this new epic.
  13. Okay I like the Sonic comics, but the one beef I have is when the artists all seem to try and copy Yardley’s general style. I mean it isn’t exact mind you, but I loved back when the comic book had some more variation in the artwork. Sure there was Ron Lim at one point who did awful stuff, but there was also other artists like Axer that really spiced it up too. The fact was they all were very distinct, now they are very similar.
    I still think the comic has gone way uphill since where it was before in terms of story though, the writing keeps getting better I think. But the art, while nice, is just very repetitive and not very distinct from artist to artist. Just my two cents on that though 😛
