Sonic Comic iTunes App Launches!

Sonic Comic iTunes App Launches!

Archie has been pushing the sale of their comics over digital services for awhile now. While initially the selection of Sonic comics over these digital services have been limited, they have gradually begun to improve.

Now, with the launch of the Sonic Comic app for iTunes, it seems they are finally beginning to offer more comics over the service, many of them only available exclusively through this app. This new app has over 50 issues from the Archie Sonic series and it’s spin offs. Most are selling for $.99, a third of the comic’s current retail price. These issues span from the first mini series released in the early 90s, all the way through to much more recent comics from Ian Flynn’s run. The app itself can be downloaded for free on the iPhone and iPad. It was created by iVerse, which sells a variety of comics digitally.

The Sonic Stadium may link to retailers and earn a small commission on purchases made from users who click those links. These links will only appear in articles related to the product, in an unobtrusive manner, and do not influence our editorial decisions in any way.

  1. Got this just now. Some very recent stuff on this app. Wonder if in the future I can just suscribe to the app to get the newest issue, lol

  2. I’m going to pass on this one…I just love actually being able to flip the pages of a comic. I would only get this to get the rarer comics that I can no longer get hold of due to high prices and my comic book providers provider not having them in stock. Call me paranoid, but I’m kind of afraid of this putting comic book stores out of business X). Anyone else feel this way?

  3. I prefer having both the original comics and the digital copies. Makes enjoying the comics I own a lot easier.

  4. ^ lol well they do make nice confetti, but then again so do most Sonic games made from 2005-10. Man, lets hope our lil guy can make 2011 shine!

but anyway, printed media as a whole is unfortunaly dieing out (newspapers, comics, magazines, etc) simply because alot of the stuff on the shelves are also online. Hopefully printed media can find some middle ground and continue on WITH the internet age. This app is a step in the right direction as its putting their product out there so even the laziest bumpkin can say “Sonic has a comic? Let me check it out”. Plus 4 comics on the app are FREE. So I say Archie,DC, and Marvel are smart for choosing this route, plus it means I wont mess up the physical books I already own lol

  5. Get ComicZeal on app store for a cheap price, get all Sonic comics for free on tails.kicks-ass.com. Sync comics. All Sonic comics!

  6. *sigh* or do that. (hell i’ve done that already) but its not good for the company. But whatever, its the age we live in i guess.

  7. @Clouddavis I see a lot of good points. I can keep my real comics in tact. Comics actually almost did die due to the digital age, watched a special on comics a while back*and demonetization* I’ll hate to see my comic book store provider go bye bye if it does come to that,I’ve gotten good bargains. I’ve ben with the sonic comic since issue 125 hard to believe how long it’s lasted, they were struggling a while back ago if I remember, which is why they stopped running the fan section, and posted so many add inserts.

  8. keep real comic in tact*Not that I shred them or anything,I just tend to accidentally bend them when I”m not careful*
