The rumour mill is churning again and this time it’s from a random 4chan forum member who goes by the name Wentos The Travelling Salesman, who some may recall spoke out early last year claiming to be an employee at SEGA. This guy claimed to know that the next “main” game in the Sonic series would be based on Sonic Unleashed‘s daytime stages, but never provided any proof to his identity or claims. The claim may have turned out to be true, with Sonic Colours‘ stages playing out like those levels, but these are predictions anyone could make given such positive feedback on those stages from fans who played the game that SEGA quickly became aware of.
New rumours from Wentos’ sudden return to the 4chan forums begin with SEGA going for something different in the next Mario & Sonic game, straying away from the sports theme of the last two games in the franchise, but wouldn’t say anything more on the subject.
“Without giving anything away…this time, it’s not a sports game. It’s turning out quite well. I think some of you may be a little surprised.”
When asked why Sonic Colours isn’t on PS3 and Xbox360, Wentos cited cheaper development costs and developmental freedom as reasons.
“…Wii/DS is a much more cost-effective pairing, especially for an ‘experimental’ Sonic game like this where they needed the financial and developmental freedom to craft 50+ (!) stages,”
Wentos also claims that development of an HD version of Sonic Colours is all set to go, but first SEGA will need high sales of the Wii & DS versions to justify it ever leaving the cutting room floor.
“The technology and design plan is all set up to do the port on Sonic Team’s end,” he said. “Of course, they need strong sales to justify releasing it on the other two platforms (with enhancements, more money spent, etc) in the first place, so it’s all up to you guys.”
Again, no proof of Wentos’ identity or his claims has been provided and for the most part these rumours have been going about since Gamefest 2010, so we’re strictly filing this under rumour and suggest you take this with the tiniest pinch of salt possible.

DAMN IT! Now, I don’t know if I should buy the Wii-version of Sonic Colors, or if I should wait for the 360-version (if there is going to be one). I mean, if I can be SURE that there will be a 360-version, no matter how long it will take, I will wait. But since there is no way to know about this yet, I really don’t know what to do.

Kinda pisses me off if they do decide to release an HD version. It’ll basically make the wii version useless to have in comparison, it’s reminding me of how Bandai Namco always ports the Tales series to Playstation after they see how it fares on other consoles.

M&S winter olympics already got criticized for being the same, and Nintendo and Sega won’t let a money-making franchise die.
Also Colours HD? No, sh#t. Even professional interviewers asked about the port and it’s high requested by the fans. And if the game goes well, of course they want to make more money by expanding the audience.

Wait, why are they going to develop a high profile game for a two low profile systems that hardly anyone owns? At least that’s how it is around these neck of the woods. Nearly all my friends own a Wii and maybe two of them own a Xbox 360. I’ve never known anyone to own a PS3. Also, why do people make “HD” out to be like its something that is essential to gaming? Its nice, but its not needed.
If this is true, then everyone with a Wii buy this game so us 360/PS3 owners can play.
Please would be Mario and Sonic Kart or Mario & Sonic Adventure or Mario & Sonic Party (with Eggman/Bowser spaces)

I hope the Wii/DS versions sells well enough so they can make Colors in HD. Hell, I’ll probably end up buying the HD version too if Colors turns out to be that amazing and it has it’s own exclusives, etc. 🙂

If there is REALLY a Sonic and Mario platformer, I’d say we have the greatest proper crossover EVER on the way. We just have to wait and see folks. Heres hoping.

Im trying not to get my hopes up for this, but colours for the 360 would be beyond amazing! I cant help but cross my fingers! If they say they will if it sells well then i dont think they are gonna have a problem, incredible reviews plus some places already sold out! I really hope they do release it for 360 =D

Yeah, just imagined how AMAZING Colors will look in HD! Sonic Unleashed for the PS3/360 looks freaking awesome compared to the Wii version. The Wii version of Colors already looks great and it if it will look even better if Sega release it on 360/PS3! 😀
I don’t think I want to see a Sonic and Mario platformer. How would you mix their two very different styles of gameplay?
I would love to see Mario Party 9 featuring Sonic.
I think you could get Sonic and Mario together by having them alternate in sections of a level to where one does a speed section and the other does platforming. Or they could just make a level and Sonic or Mario can play kinda like Luigi and Mario in the Galaxy games. Anyway, I would buy Sonic Colors on the wii and if an HD version comes out I’ll get that too! Especially since it’ll have “enhancements”. 😀
I call bull on this whole Colors HD thing, SEGA repeatedly explained why it’s exclusive, and SEGA doesn’t normally do this sort of thing when it makes little sense, it’s a keep a good thing going sort of thing; as in don’t go and waste money making HD versions when you’ll not sell that much anyway, even as Wentos admitted, they saw what happened with Unleashed.
Now Free Riders Wii, THAT’S a very good business move, to correct a very BAD one (Kinect-exclusive wut).
Besides, the majority of HD folks will surely not accept anything less than a complete graphics overhaul with the Hedgehog Engine, you know it, I know it.
Don’t most HD ports get bad reps if the graphics aren’t up to their standards anyway? And if SEGA port it with better graphics, that’s MORE money required.

Personally, I’d like it to be an RPG. It would be the best way to incorporate multiple characters into a story. And both sides have shown that they can fit into a turn based game fairly well.
Well, since this is only a 4chan member spreading stuff, it would all be just to create hype of course, so I’m not going to get my hopes up.
I would like to see Colours ported to HD, it would look amazing, like the way they did with Sonic 4.

Perhaps thats what was originally planned for Sonic Colors, but the idea was scrapped after he had said it? I dunno, just a thought…
If people wanted to play mario and sonic on a platformer, they could just go to adventure mode on super smash bros brawl and pick them as characters. lol just kidding

Everyone in my area (UK) who plays video games owns an Xbox 360, few people own a PS3 and it is only a few who don’t play many video games who own a Wii

But the speculation of it is nice. ^^ I mean, the Sonic and Mario thing would be cool but it’s nothing too special yet considering SSBB had Sonic and Mario in it.
The Colors for HD thing is kinda cool for those without a Wii. If it were true and I knew for sure it was coming out like on the 360 or something, I’d wait to get it simply cuz it’d be easier. But unless it’s confirmed, I’ll go for the Wii version. This time it’ll probably be the exact same thing only with SLIGHTLY different graphics. I doubt the Wisps would be exclusive since they’re all home consoles while the DS isn’t. (Kinda like the exclusiveness of the versions of Sonic 4)

I hope we get a Mario and Sonic Adventure or a Sonic and Mario Party… What if it is “Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2: Sonic Meets Mario!” The Metal Sonic silhouette at the end of episode one was really Mario doing a metal Sonic shadow puppet… ha ha Shadow.
I think that they MUST NOT release it for xbox 360 and ps3 because they did almost the same thing with sonic unleashed and the wii got a crappy version. If they do release it it should be twice as short and with crappy HD. The wii’s revenge!!!!

Wow, seriously? lol Okay, I too, have insider information. Sonic Color is coming out on the wii…If, this happens to be true. Then, so be it. But, this guy shouldn’t get any credit. Anyone and I do mean, anyone; can make a prediction like this, it’s more so prior knowledge. In Sega’s case, because they are trying to listen to the fans as of now. And the fans, want a “Real” Mario and Sonic game. One that’s a platformer perferrably….that borrow mechanics from both universes, as for HD Sonic Color. IMO, it might sell if they do, many even more so then the wii version.

Not sports? I can’t imagine any other way. Sonic and Mario are literally not meant to met in any way, other than brawl and sports games. At least, in my opinion. But for now, it’s a rumor, so I’ll ignore it until there is straight facts. If they do decide to make one, I’ll let reviews and previews speak for themselves.

That’s pretty interesting because when you said “two low profile systems that hardly anyone owns” I thought you were talking about the Wii and DS before I read the rest of your post. Everyone I know owns either a 360 or a PS3, and the only Wii around belongs to my friend’s little sister. I used to think the Wii was a nothing system that nobody bothered with, but it’s good to know there are parts where it’s been selling well.

I’m seeing comments on here about how it shouldn’t be made on the 360 or PS3.. but I know several people (myself included) who are really excited for this game but don’t want to have to go buy a Wii for it. I have a 360 and two other Sonic fans I know have PS3s, and it would be great to be able to experience what looks to be the best Sonic game since Adventure without having to snatch my friend’s kid sister’s Wii in order to play it. *LOL* As far as the comments that people don’t want it in HD, I still don’t understand that Reggie-Fils-Aime frame of mind. If someone simply doesn’t care if its in HD or not then I understand, but why would someone not want the option for HD to exist?
