When we think of Metal Sonic’s creation, we think of Robotnik working in a dark, dank lab right? Well, in reality, it happened like this!
Picture by Nerkin. Click his name to visit his lovely DA page, and download a bigger version of the art below.
I hope and pray you all know what piece of Renaissance art this is referencing.
For those who don’t know…
This is based on the work of the Renaissance artist Michaelangelo entitled The Creation of Adam which can be found on the cieling of the Sistine Chappel. Contrarary to popular belief, Michaelangelo did not paint it whilst laid on his back. Whats interesting to note is that God (or in this case Robotnik) is in front of a pinkish background, which very accurately resembles the outline of a human brain.
And he made such an impression, that Master Splinter named a student after him.
Take that history!
Hehe, I knew what painting that was. Very clever 8D
Awesome! A true work of art.
Hmm, I recognized the resenblence but forgot the name. Though I should’ve remembered considering the name of this is based on the original name. xD
Then again, unless it’s something that is taught to everyone, it’s mostly something you have to hear about from someone or research yourself. It’s not necessarily common knowledge. It’s almost common, but not quite. It’s, so far, knowledge only for nerds, people who are really into art, really into history or anyone who happened to have come across the info and care enough to remember whether it was curiousity, through a video game, or for a report. But I wouldn’t find it unsuprising for anyone to not know.. then again this is the internet and it’s Sonic Stadium. Majority of the fans who put the effort to really come here often should likely be the kind to dig into this info I guess.
Though it’s a good drawing, and the original art is a masterpiece for it’s time… I don’t see why one would draw a pic of a videogame character based on a masterpiece artwork… particularly if you’re gonna make the VILLAIN compared to a religious figure… especially if that specific figure is God. lol (It’s like at my school when we had to pain murals for the LooneyTunes, someone did a mural of the LooneyTunes in LasT Supper. o.0)
Still very nice tho.
Yeah, the Sistine Chapel once had ET and Elliot in this kind of picture, in that Animaniacs cartoon, where the Warner Siblings paint it for Michelangelo (We’ll do it because… We like painting naked people!), and His Eminence (Steven Spielberg) loved the ET Interpretation. “Painting’s a lot like show business – You just gotta know your audience!”
So, Ax, do you think before you post comments or are you one of those “stream of consciousness” kind of guys?
@Ax I’m sure that everyone who knows what the Sistine Chappel and the Creation of Adam is are more than flattered by your remarks.
LOL Epic art win. I love how the badniks are hoarding Robotnik. It’s just too awesome to even described in words.
I gotta show my art teacher this! We studied the original painting not too long ago at art class.
I drew a parody of God touching an iPhone. XD
This is… well… amazing and insulting at the same time….
what do you know, i came across this a few days back.
I see a motobug…
Oh, that’s just awesome. 😀 Fantastic idea, and the art style is impressive too.
I love this.
HA! That’s hilarious. Just made my day 50x better.
Despite offending me as I’m a Christian… this is AMAZING. I love this piece of art, hilarious.
@Cassanova
You made me laugh out loud with your Splinter comment. XD
haha. this is awesome
It offends you, yet it is hilarious? Talk about an contradiction…
I’m a Christian too.
@ Lanmanna
Yeah I know. I have a very strange sense of humor. I despise South Park and anything by Seth McFarlane because they offend me yet I find this hilarious. Of course this isn’t really making fun of a religion so…
Not too offensive, but still just a tad.
But in Sonic Shorts . . . nevermind
I want this on my wall… or my ceiling.
“Despite offending me as I’m a Christian…”
This art is in no way offensive.
Huh. I kinda figured on the name of the piece but not the artist…
This is interesting piece!
@ Brad
It’s a tad bit offensive as I said in my last post, but not too much.
@ Edge
It’s not offensive at all. People just need to stop being petty when it comes to stuff like this.
