Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 Playable At SoS 2010

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 Playable At SoS 2010

One of the big treats of the Summer of Sonic convention in past years has been that Sonic’s newest games have found their way into the hands of fans way before they’re released. That’s all thanks to our good friends at SEGA and we’re very pleased to announce that this year will be no different. In addition to all the other pods on the floor, including the All-Stars Racing tournament, SOS will be graced with the presence of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I.

Sonic’s eagerly anticipated 2D platformer will be on the convention floor where attendees will be able to get hands-on time with the E3 build, which contains all 3 Acts of Splash Hill Zone and its boss battle with Dr. Eggman. The game will be available in the Games Zone on our Xbox 360 pods, kindly donated by Microsoft who, as we mentioned in our S&SASR Tournament announcement, are part-sponsoring the games section of Summer of Sonic.

We hope you are as excited about this news as we are and look forward to seeing you in the Games Zone!

  1. You guys never cease to amaze. All you’ve done and the event just keeps getting even better.

  2. Good news.

“Xbox 360 pods kindly donated by Microsoft who as we mentioned in our S&SASR Tournament announcement are part-sponsoring the games section of Summer of Sonic”

Just out of curiosity, where was that mentioned exactly? I can’t find it in the tournament announcement.

  3. @ Core:
Oh yeah, I thought we mentioned that in that post. Updated the tournament announcement now lol!

  4. *Lies on the floor and punches the wall again and again
I need to get there or else I’ll snap!! I don’t care if I don’t have any money.
On a more serious note, you guys are just incredible.
    Two question though.
    1. Is it the build from the E3 or a newer one?
    2. Will you guys write a preview for all the guys who can’t get there. I’d really appreciate it.
    Rock on TSS!

  5. @ Eggman:
Thanks for the kind words 🙂 and it’s a shame if you can’t come 🙁

    1. As I mentioned in the article it is the E3 build yes.

    2. Yeah, we’ll likely write-up a preview for those who can’t come and gather some of the fans thoughts on it at the event. As I’m staffing the Games Zone I’ll be able to see fan reactions.

  6. @ Shadzter
Thanks for the answers. Must have flown over the thing with the build.

  7. @ Chompy:
We promise SEGA all the cake, pizza and sweets they want XD
No, the real reason is SEGA(including AAUK) and Microsoft are awesome 😀

  8. I think I might explode if I don’t go!!!!
First Crush 40 is going to be PERFORMING……
Then you guys get to play Sonic 4!
Why can’t SOS be closer?!?! (lives in USA)

All of you going, have a blast, and don’t forget to have fun for the fans who can’t come. 😉
    One day….. one day I’ll be there…..

  9. Seriously? You guys are just amazing! (SEGA and Microsoft, too!)

It seems like every year SoS gets better and better. Hope all of you guys going have a blast! Some day I’ll be there. I swear it!

  10. Y’know I always looked at SoS like I look at E3. “Oh that seems like fun.” Recently, however, With the addition of Crush 40 and Sonic 4…. “I WANNA COOOOME!” You’ve made me regret living in the US…

  11. I seriously need to go win some contest for a free round trip flight to London or something, this years SoS is stacking up to be very interesting

  12. Didn’t see THIS coming ;P. Yeah, it was pretty obvious that one of the three games would be playable, unfortunately, I still can’t go! Well, have a good time all you folks who can go!

  13. Wait… Microsoft donated things? Microsoft? Money hungry? I take back everything I said about them… now I don’t regret my Xbox 360! Come here you little piece of broken awesome! *hugs 360* you may not be as good as my ballin’ PStriple… but your still cool.

On a more serious note… I must ask you guys if it’s free to get in, or if it costs money, and if so, how much in U.S dollars. I’m going to beg my parents to take me to the UK next year since it’s Sonic’s 20th Anniversary and I just can’t miss SOS next year. I can already tell that there is guaranteed a SOS next year due to the circumstances.

  14. Well done guys, looking forward to a shot, since I won’t be able to download it when it arrives. Boy, I hope the tickets come sooooooon.

  15. @ Edge:
Entry was free the past 2 years and despite how much the event has grown this year is free to enter again, we have nothing to announce in regards to next year yet I’m afraid.

  16. WHY??? WHY DOES SUMMER OF SONIC HAVE TO BE HALFWAY ACROSS THE GLOBE??!!

*Sits in a corner crying and dies*

  17. A shame Nintendo isn’t involved, you guys really need to try out the Colors demos

  18. @ Shadzter

Alright then, thanks for the information then! I sure hope there is one next year, even though I probably won’t be able to come…

  19. I won’t be 18, but I definitely want to go to SoS 2011. SoS 2010 is, again, far too difficult to make considering I’m still in school -_-

  20. I may not be able to go due to the fact that the Summer of Sonic is in the UK (I’m a US resident). But I will keep browsing the Internet for the latest headlines on upcoming Sonic games. I hope that Sonic 4: Episode I turns out to be a success and doesn’t get ridiculed this time around, because I’m currently keeping my fingers crossed for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II.

    @Crystal
No cussing, please. That’s not an appropriate word to say.
