Summer of Sonic 2010 Date Revealed

Summer of Sonic 2010 Date Revealed

The world’s Sonic the Hedgehog fan convention, Summer of Sonic, will take place on the 7th August 2010, we can announce today. Further details such as venue, guests and events have yet to be determined. Entry may be charged this year, in order to cover costs.

Summer of Sonic has come in leaps and bounds since its introduction as a real-life convention in 2008. Organised by fans for the fans, and headed by Kevin Eva (ArchAngelUK) of Sonic Wrecks/Sega Europe and myself, it has proven to be the annual go-to event for Sonic lovers around the world.

Past guests include musician Richard Jacques, singer TJ Davis, remixer and artist Bentley Jones, Nigel Kitching and Nigel Dobbyn from Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic and Steve Lycett (S0L) of Sumo Digital. The event has played host to events such as Guinness World Records challenges and exclusive sneak previews of Sonic Chronicles and Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing.

Over 400 people turned up to East London’s Brick Lane to hit the Summer of Sonic 2009, situated at Truman Brewery’s Boiler House. A similar number is expected for 2010, with Sonic fans around the world coming together in London for another day of Super Sonic activity.

With the costs of Summer of Sonic 2009 exceeding expectations, it is being decided whether to charge a small fee for entry to this year’s event. We hope you’ll be supportive of this move, should we go ahead with it, as it will allow us to bring you even more unexpected surprises. There are many things in the pipeline for 2010 – you won’t be disappointed.

Further details – as well as an official SoS 2010 website – to come soon. In the meantime – start booking that date off of work, guys!

  1. I think it’s only fair to pay considering how much work and stuff is put into the event. Even if it continued to be free i’d still feel obliged to pay something to help out. Really looking forward to this years event πŸ™‚

  2. Thank you so much i been waiting for a while, i got to remember that it is the 7th August, i will be defentily going, , I’M SO EXCIETED! πŸ™‚ WOOOO

  3. Awesome, this is strange as I only asked T-Bird last night if there’d be an SoS event this year and he said early August, I just wasn’t expecting a date so quickly. XD

If you look at that photo, I’m the guy in the black beanie hat just in front of the stage. XD

As for the charge, that sounds perfectly fair to me. I’d gladly pay Β£20 or so anyway as it’s one of the best events of the year, as proved by the past 2. πŸ˜€

  4. Definitely looking forward to it after last year! <3 I don't think a small fee is too much to ask considering everything that goes into setting it up and I'd say it's definitely worth it! I can't wait x

  5. I’ve wanted to go to the last two Summer of Sonic events, but couldn’t because of travelling. I’ll definately come this year though. And I’ll be more then happy to pay a fee.

  6. Of course it’s understandable to want to charge for entry, but as long as it’s not too much I’m there again! πŸ˜€ Last year was the most impressive event I’ve seen before, so I can’t wait to see what you pull out of the bag this time πŸ™‚

  7. @ Cass: You can do the contest this year as long as I win. If Dred is Luke, I’m Vader, therefore this has to be the T-empire Strikes Back.
    Also, I am Dred’s father…0.o *spoiler*

  8. I don’t think i cane come this year to Summer of Sonic but i am gona come to London whit my art klass. It is 3 may to 6 may!:)

  9. Great! It simply couldn’t be at a better time!

Additionally, I think that an entrance fee is only fair; after all, you guys deserve money for the things that you do for the Sonic community.

  10. I’m surprised you didn’t charge last ear, so can’t say I would min dif you did this year.

But regardless…I more than likely can’t go. Knew it’d be difficult for me this year anyway. Still, hope its a blast.

…I’m the ginger guy with his arms crossed :p

  11. Alton towers would be an ideal location. Though i wish Summer of Sonic could be somewhere in the US, then I could go.

  12. I will be there as I throughly enjoyed last years event. I won’t mind paying a small fee to get in but let’s not break the bank.

Also I hear there’s been considerations on giving STC-O a table at the event. That would be sweeeeeet.

  13. I’m there! After the awesomeness that was last year, there’s no way I’m missing out this time. Even gonna book a hotel for the weekend so I can go to the Afterparty πŸ˜›

As for a fee, myself and Mena (or is that Mena and I/Mena and me…?) are willing to pay up to Β£10.00 each for entry, if needs be. Even if entry fee is lower, we might pay that anyway to help you guys out ^_^

  14. Fuck yeah! Last year was incredible, and was very sad I couldn’t stay overnight for the festivities πŸ˜‰ – I am more than happy to pay entry this time around. I can’t wait to meet all my wonderful friends again!

  15. id rather pay a fee know im Guaranteed entry and enjoy the day with all the fans plus if the cash is gna help make it a bigger and better day and also bring in more guest etc then the entry fee is no problem

  16. Awesome sauce was sorta waiting for the reveal date, usual deal I’ll be there with my collection of Sonic discs to DJ for you all once again hopefully and perhaps more…

  17. For ****’s sake! Every year I want to go to this event, and every year I’m on holiday on the set date! Bah! Oh well, maybe NEXT year πŸ™

  18. These conventions crack me up. He’s wearing a Sonic hat. How can you talk to that guy seriously. There’s something called obsession ya know?

  19. I can’t see anybody having a problem with paying money. About 10 bucks or so?

..not that I can go anyway, stupid Europeans *grumblegrumblegrumble*

  20. Awesome. I’ll try my best to attend this year!

…XD I’m in that pic. The short blonde one. The even shorter bonde one is my sister. o.o

  21. I hope I can go this year since its only across the water for me, I’ll have to look up cheap flights!
And I’m willing to pay whatever admission fee there is to go to a convention of my favourite franchise πŸ˜€

  22. OoooOoooOOOooo YAYs! Im there!

Oh and DreadKnux can i make some suggestions for events to you?

Sonic 4 neeeedddss to be there :O

  23. I’m not going to be there, but it’ll be epic as always since DreadKnux has the helm. I do have one suggestion:

    ******* GET CRUSH 40!!! *******

  24. If I had the cash, I’d so starting planning to go this second.
There should definitely be an American counterpart one of these days for those of us who can’t take a hop across the pond.

  25. I have no problem with paying, due to the sheer amount of effort that goes into someting like this and the fact that it will be goddamn awesome! *starts planning*

    Bring it on!

  26. Awww, hell. You know my stance. I’d pay Β£50 to go either way, I’m definately gonna be there.

Will re-post this date and link to this article on my dA page. Need to round up the troops!

  27. to be honst i was surprised and did wonder why there wasn’t an entry fee when i went to the 09 one. I wouldn’t mind having to pay a small fee, heck so much works goes into the event and all.
