SHADOWTEAM: Sonic Boom Racing, New Shadow Team Project

I’ve set myself a bit of a task but nothing too big considering the free time I have. As you all know, SAGE is coming up and I know you’re all probably going to be dribbling over Sonic the Fighters 2 and wanting to know what else has happened since you last got your grubby mitts on a copy. Well, that’ll all be shown on the day, since Sonic the Fighters 2 is mainly Anarchy Rat’s game as he does all the excellent programming.

However, Shadow Team doesn’t wish to put all it’s eggs in one basket. As you know, from ST:UK there are four members – Anarchy Rat, Dreadknux, CyberBlade and me. Since Anarchy Rat’s been working hard on STF2 you’re probably wondering where the rest of us have been?

Well you can see CyberBlade’s works in Sonic Ultimate, but I’ve not churned out anything since Eggman Tug. Dreadknux has been working on the site. Well, since Eggman Tug’s programming was amateur at best, I’m revamping it, however save anything you wish to say about it for the relevant topic.

There is also a secret project which will help our ST:UK American team member, CyberBlade, be more in touch with us. CyberBlade and I are working on a game that will be quite epic and also very dark. However that is our secret project, so you’ll have to wait for that one.

Why am I rambling about ST when you clicked here to see a new game? Mood setting, my friends, mood setting. While working on the secret project and struggling with the camera, I took a little break and decided to make a racing engine for fun. What I got was a very polished and almost bug-free but short racing level. Using the graphical ‘movement’ effects seen on Sonic Drift, I’ve started building it into a new game which was BetaNamed Sonic R2. I hated the name and checked SFGHQ to see if Sonic Boom had been taken. To my surprise it had not.

Hope they whet your appetite. It looks a bit more slick in motion. Expect more objects and imagery on the sides of the road, as stated that these are early demo tests.

About Play: The game actually runs on speed and distance. Basically, the red number counter you see in one of the screens is an early speedometer and the speed you are going at will make you travel further. This is all done using counters and some programming mathematics. There will be at least a demo of this available at SAGE, and should hopefully be quite a bit further by then.

A : To accelerate – release to decrease speed
Left Arrow : Travel Left
Right Arrow : Travel Right

What to expect for the final game;
5 playable characters, those seen on the title screen.
Several varied tracks each set in different worlds and with different dangers.
Two player mode, if I can fit it in 😛

I don’t even know all the final specs but they’ll e varied enough for you to come back to.

Hope the screenshots excite you a bit. Just showing that we’re not being lazy, you’ve got plenty to look forward to for this SAGE.
